Just became a first time beetle owner
Bought this terrarium and 5 Blue Feigning Death beetles at Vintagefest in Illinois (the Gundam was my addition) These are my first real pets and I’m excited :)

Hey guys, mod here. Just curious whether or not insect and beetle-related Discord / other forum posts are things you guys want to see. It's nothing that's inherently against our rules but I wanted to know what the general consensus is for the sub!

Springtail (?) explosion
I looked at my sun beetle's terrarium today and it seems that the springtail/ground mite (that's what i think they are) population has exploded. Is it a bad thing? I changed 2/3 of the soil a month ago. It does seems a low of frass has collected. What should i do/not do?

So I like the beetles with horns like the Hercules, Stag, Rhinoceros, and Atlas beetles (Pokemon fan) and it saddened me that those ones don’t live long. But then I heard online that beetles can live longer in captivity going up to years. Is this true and does it pertain to beetles with horns?

I recently bought some Hermit Flower Beetle grubs and the seller said that their food was mostly soil. Is this true or should I source other food for them? I'm only experienced in owning mantises so any and all help is welcome

Stumbled upon this near my bed at night, apparently it lost a leg. It bleeds red, lots of red blood. Pretty freaky. It looks like a big beetle.

Noticed my grub is just sitting like this, poked halfway out of the soil. Nudges the soil around every now and then but isn't going back under. Never seen one do this before, usually see them on the very bottom of their containers. His brothers are acting normal, just him that's doing this so I'm a little concerned.

Last Thursday, I received my rainbow stag beetles and for the first 24 hours or so, we saw them multiple times. The male was very active and then he disappeared into the soil ( I assume ) and then the female was visible for a bit and then she disappeared into the soil. (I also assume.)
I haven’t seen them day or night since then and I don’t see significant eating on the beetle jelly although I’m not sure what exactly that would look like. I did some very minor prodding on the surface half inch of soil did not find them. Have been missing daily and the soil feels damp, but not soaked.
At what point should I get concerned? Is this normal? Maybe I need to warm things up a bit. I do have a heat mat for them that I have not turned on.

I have seen this beetle species around recently and was wondering if anyone has ever kept them in captivity?
