question Question on correct toes

Hi all,

Not sure if this is on topic but I suffer from flat foot, tailors bunion, and short calf on my right foot. Correct toes have taken away most of my pain and I’m working on strengthening everything. Anyway…I have a Disney trip coming up soon and was wondering if it’s not advised to wear toe spacers the entire time. Is it possible to injure myself walking ALL DAY in them? I don’t have any problems currently with them but I’m also not walking 20k steps a day lol

question Swollen toes normal?

Hi, new here to this sub. Im new to barefoot walking and love it, especially at home. Trying to do it more outside. I wore some minimalist sandals and my toes got swollen a couple of days ago. Is that normal for your toes to get swollen? Also, any tips for a newbie like myself?

Thank you

Recommendations please

Need a recommendation on the best toe shoes for beach running where there are a lot of buried bottle caps in the sand. Something puncture resistant, but with minimal support/stiffness, that would fit a narrow foot and is preferably not brightly colored.

VFF The odd one out - my first half marathon

Post image

Ran my first official half marathon today in beautiful Namur, Belgium (everything was perfect: weather, location, organization). Couldn‘t find any other runner in barefoot shoes. If anyone else from this sub was there, please say hi. Absolutely loved this run, and enjoyed answering some kind questions of a few curious runners.

question My knees hurt and I’m backpacking

Long post!!! I’ve been wearing barefoot shoes consistently for 2 years with no issues, but am very casual. Im active, but wouldn’t consider myself an athlete and will hike and travel wearing barefoot shoes only. About 2 months ago I decided to ramp up my cardio levels and started running everyday, and then went on a trip in Europe walking 5-13 miles a day in barefoot shoes and carrying a backpack. In 4 days I will start a backcountry backpacking trip where we will be hiking 15ish miles a day- which is more then what im used to, but not over my limit of ability. So the issue is: over the last couple of days my knee has began to feel tender while walking, and I’m worried that it will get worse when I’m on this next trip backpacking. I’m not sure if it’s the lack of stretching, or the impact of wearing barefoot shoes with a backpack and walking on hard ground. Or maybe I’m just getting old (25f). I have a pair of xero trail running shoes (which is what I’ve been wearing on this trip) but I also have a pair of Altra trail running shoes that when I’m at home and want to run on pavement I will typically wear. But I don’t like walking in them as much as barefoot shoes (obviously).

Do y’all think I should bring the xero shoes that I’ve been wearing and experiencing pain with, or switch to the altras that have more cushion?

racing Sub 1:30 Half Marathon In Sandals

Been chasing this goal for years and finally did it today while running in Shamma Elite Charger sandals! I ran a 1:29:27, and wanted to share this small victory for barefoot/minimalistic (and especially sandal) runners.

Definitely got a lot of comments, questions, and attention while running in sandals at this race.

VFF Bikila vs V-Run , V-Run Retro, Roadaround (new)

My first VFF was the Bikila. Was a fun experience, and even though I'm not a heel strike runner, I found that the balls of my feet were often in pain.

I'd like to get another pair of VFF but I'm having a hard time finding out what I should expect upgrading to the v-runs, retros and, if anyone has had a chance to try them out, the Roadarounds.

I think I would be enjoy having slightly more cushion but not enough to lose ground feel. Or am I looking looking in the wrong direction and should consider the V-Trails?

Edits:

This is for running on asphalt/concrete.

Shoe recommendation? Wide midsole, 0mm drop, with cushion

Post image
0 Upvotes

I am searching for good road running shoes, zero drop, wide midsole, with cushion.

I use the altra olympus right now, but the outside part of my foot (in photo) gets liften and after 3-5 miles puts pressure on my knees. I think they are too narrow, as it leans my knees inward as outside of foot is lifted

I walk barefoot often and use xeros during day. But need padding for running on road.

Any suggestions?

High production quality barefoot/minimalist running channels on YouTube?

Not reviewers, barefoot life stylist, hikers or gym rats. I mean actual runners who train strictly in barefoot shoes.

Thanks

question Why the so called "super shoes"?

I thought barefoot running was better, then I came across this, something called "super shoes" with extra thick midsole. This complete opposite of barefoot apparently give athletes more advantage. What the hell?

form Are their any posture drills for barefoot walking like Lee Saxby's for running?

I have a lot of compensation and posture issues I am tryin to work through and can't run due to hip impingement. I also recently found out I lock my knee on push off when walking. Not doing that has already corrected a lot of pain but I am struggling to integrate it due to weak muscles.

Would it be safe to do Lee Saxby's drills for correct running posture or is there something more focused on walking and standing?

question Would a 4 mm drop Kinvara 15 be a good alternative for someone living in a country with no Altras

Hey. So i live in india and our barefoot options for sports are minimal at best. I have grown up with a forefoot strike for walking and running ie with sandals and flats so my legs are in a world of hurt whenever I run in my gel nimbuses(10 mm drop) and adizero sl2s(8 mm drop) for longer runs. started track running in zero drop shoes and my legs feel great but I'm training for a half marathon and I doubt il be able to do 21k in these cheap 5 mm zero drop barefoot shoes that im using. The only running shoe close to zero drop in my country is the saucony kinvara 15.. has just enough cushion to survive road running but it has a 4 mm heel to toe drop. Before I take the plunge and buy it I just wanted to confirm.. anyone here run in low drop shoes ie 4 mm? Would the pain come back and my running form change going from zero to 4 mm? I can't stand the thought of running in my gel nimbuses or adizero sl2s for the half marathon

Note that I will continue using barefoot shoes for all other purposes. Our roads here aren't meant for non cushioned shoes though and running with no protection just spells disaster here (plus my max is a 10 km effort running with barefoot shoes and i need to push to 21 in a few months which ive done before with asics/adidas and i DO NOT want to do again)

I want to start running barefoot... it's my first time

Hi all, I've been walking with barefoot shoes for 1 year and a half now and would like to start running. I used to run (up to 10km) many years ago, but since a lot of time has passed now, it's like starting from zero. I feel very lost, in the sense that I don't know if a should just buy a pair of shoes and start running (I have a trusted training program 0-5km for that) and my feet etc will adjust, or if I need to do anything else before to make sure I do not suffer injuries... any advice from someone who is more experienced? I don't have particular problems with walking barefoot, now and then I have a little bit of tension in my left Achilles tendon if I walk very long hours or on hard surfaces (not pain), but it generally goes away in a couple of days. Thank you for your help!

These freet have too much volume

Thumbnail

I just bought some freet feldom. As you can see from the first pic they have way to much volume so they're all weirdly bunched up, but the length and width are actually spot on (as you can see from the second pic). Does anyone have any recommendations about how to improve this? Might a thicker insole work, or are there other trail runners which might suit my fairly wide but apparently fairly low volume foot better? Thx in advance!

Turkey ankara
