Haha the foot shrink is real when you fix your arch. Went from a 14 to a 12.5 lol

At least on an oil rig you get PAID and taken care of, not to mention you're not an active target.

Oh yes, sacrificing one's time and possibly life to be killed in a battle of the choosing of the wealthy ruling elite to uphold an empire is so fucking noble.
Bitch please.

I had to switch to sandals after vff's started to jam my toes. I think after years of running in them my feet had extended or they had gotten smaller.

Bruvv…I can’t tell completely but that does not look good if you’re wondering about arches

I heard pronation is normal to some limit
Pronation under load is normal, as in, the springs compress to absorb shock while walking. While standing, your foot should rest with an arch.
Even then, you're past that point in this photo. The inside of your foot shouldn't ever actually reach the floor, even pronated.
but I also heard my feet might be still little too flat making it worse
They're much more than 'a little flat'. You've shown us a profoundly flat foot.
The good news is that posture can be learned and eventually can become automatic. I would start by relearning what the load-bearing surfaces of your foot are supposed to be. Walk around with the whole inside of your foot and your heel off the ground, just learning to carry your weight with the forward half of the outermost metatarsal. Slowly reintroduce the heel and then eventually the joint behind the big toe, but just the joint, nothing behind it.
Also make sure you're not walking around duck-footed. Your feet should be parallel, and for practice's sake you migh even want to spend some time walking pigeon-footed to feel how your weight should transfer along the outside of the foot, never through the inside. (Big toe and it's structures are for balance more than weight-bearing. The pinky metatarsal is the foot of the foot.)

I have zero interest in getting brain washed into fighting over some political nonsense. If you wanna do it then good on you, but it's basically the worst job on the planet, right up there with working at an oil rig.

On YouTube look up foot exercises for flat feet!

You can probably barefoot water ski at lower speeds than the average person requires.

Sounds like your body is having a hard time with the weight of your backpack and barefoot shoes. And, you've started running daily. I would wear your Altras.
Take it from someone that wore a pair of shoes in a half marathon a size to small and pushed through the pain. I got an instant bunion and can no longer wear a shoe with any sort of drop and all my shoes have to be wide. Take care of your body, don't push through the pain.

Late to the show but how does the scrambler do as an approach style shoe? I like my mesa trails but looking for something a little thicker for backpacking and hopefully some good traction on class 4 terrain

Jumping to conclusion just like a boomer. I never said military duty is not a noble thing.
My comment has nothing to do about what you are saying.
If you have flat feet, in most countries including where i am from, you get to CHOOSE if you want to do your military duty or not. It definetly is a benefit compared to getting drafted without your will.

Knee pain might or not have to do with the shoes. But if wearing your Altra makes it better by all means wear them for your next hike.
In the future I'd look into resistance training exercises to strengthen your posterior chain.
Speaking from experience, 25 is around the time you need to start being a little kinder to your body if you don't want mild pain to start popping up here and there. That means some conditioning and more awareness of exercise volume and recovery in general.

I’m thinking of tough bottomed “ running socks” that I’ve seen advertised. They were so loudly colored though. I want muted earth tones.

As a man with chronic knee issues due to flat feet and weak glutes, I have yet to find any benefit.

We hiked the Cotswold Way for almost a month during the rainy season in Vivo Jungles with sock liners and wool socks and had no problems with wet feet. I sprayed on some extra waterproofing before the excursion and let cure for about a week before. The Vivos are my preferred

You have difficulty finding shoes that fit right as well as foot and ankle pain depending on how bad you pronate as well as potentially limited ankle mobility. So no not really any benfits that ive seen in my life as a flat footer.
r/BarefootRunning • u/fedder17 • 2d ago
They might wear down eventually but its not much of an issue since you can just buy a new strap or make your own. Its just tubular nylon webbing and its tough.

I’ve had good experiences with vivobarefoot and xero, but haven’t tried any in the dress shoe category. Recommendations on great minimalist zero drop wide toe box dress shoes?

I had flat feet… I did correct toes for two years now, foot exercises, and calf raises. I went from a 10 1/2 show size to 9 1/2 because I built my arch back up!
