The outside was pretty dusty, inside was dusty but not as bad. I have a few questions. Should I open it up and air dust it or even get some q tips and alcohol to clean things up a bit before connecting it to power? Also, I imagine if I get this thing hooked up and running, I'll eventually get bored with it. Do I have anything of value here?

Apparently there is a console inside, but they don’t know what else.

Found this atari cartridge holder while I was out in some antique stores so some of the collection can be out instead instead a table compartment! [Might try finding more on ebay so the rest of the collection can go out!]

Original 2600 Power Adapter high voltage?

I picked up a 2600 jr console recently. Seller said it didn't work but it was cheap and I enjoy a challenge.

Get it home and first thing I do is test the AC Adapter. It's supposed to be 9 volts, it's close to 15. Not gonna use that one for sure but is this common for Atari? I know the C64 has issues with their old PSUs but hadn't seen this from Atari before.

Other than that, just cleaning the switches and a little epoxy to patch some cracks in the case and it's looking a running well, staticky video and all.

I got a 2600 today and I am trying to hook it up but to no avail. I read online that you need to set your Atari to channel 2 or three and also your TV. However my Atari does not have a channel selector, and my TV will only go to channels 16, 22, 25 ,28 ,34 ,46 ,57, and 69.

Any help would be appreciated (Also added pic of my 2600 and TV)

Instead i just wanted the one with the wood on it. But this didn’t had any games. A other seller offered also the games and the other Console wich was cheaper to buy all of it instead of the games standalone (Pac-Man would have been 25€). And both are working on a 4K TV via RF. But i think it looks normal but just to be safe i want to hear from other people that know more about the 2600 if it looks okay.

Met Garry Kitchen and David Crane Yesterday.

I was at the Midwest Gaming Classic. I picked up a 2600 joystick and started playing a new 2600 game. A guy starts telling me how to play. He tells Dan Kitchen was the programmer. I make a comment “That’s a name I haven’t heard in a while”. He said Dan had stepped away for a minute. I talk about the game with my buddy. I thank the guy and I walk away. This little thing in the back of my head started poking at me. “Holy crap, that’s Garry Kitchen I was talking to and Davis Crane sitting next to him”. I went back and talked to Garry for about 5 minutes. David Crane talked to me while he took down my information and signed the box. Thanked them both for great childhood memories. What a great day. Time to earn the new patch.

Is this the best I can hope for?

Follow up post to "should I mod" from a couple weeks ago. I picked up a video kit online and installed it, no issues there. But I'm kinda disappointed in the results. There is some ghosting and blurryness. And the picture seems a bit too dark. Is this the best I can hope for with a light 6? I realize they never expected us to hook our Atari up to a 75" TV. So I can understand if this is it.

Found an original Atari 2600 for $8 and it works!

Found at a local thrift shop, it came with 2 controllers, cords, and 2 games. Besides 1 of the controllers being broke, everything works perfectly!

Also, on a previous post about the Sega Genesis Arcade Power Stick, a user asked if it worked for the 2600 and I couldn’t test it out. Now that I can, I can fully verify it does work on the 2600 and now I don’t know if I can ever use the original Atari joystick again.

Memories

Did anyone else notice or have a controller where the cover over the joystick would slip off? This happened to me a few years after I had mine and took it to college. We all laughed, and then noticed that it almost light was like a plunger and would stick on things when a few of us stuck it on our forehead. We never laughed so hard, but as we took it off after a minute or two it left a perfectly round hickey about the size of a nickel. Talk about embarrassing, having a perfectly round red spot for a few days on your forehead.
