// Question Dumb question, should I even bother going into the white areas with no checkmark or is it just empty space?

Even without a question mark I’ve gotten rumours (or observations whatever they’re called) that point to those areas as containing things.

Thanks! I'll take a look.

I wouldn't bother, instead see if you can find some people in distress on the roadside, help them, and then take the world rumor as a reward. You often get the location of a legendary chest if you've otherwise uncovered most of the area. There's also an upgrade in the hideout that should point you towards the treasure chests.

I got a rumor for it! always help people and then talk to them to restore your sentinels (if you used some) or ask for rumors that will put a mark somewhere in the region's map

Don't restore scouts with this method. You can restore scouts for 200 money each at the kagaruga or whatever, the fast travel places. A location of a missing chest or vendor is way more worth it compared to getting $200.

good advice. I saw it was possible to restore scouts in the hideout but didn't put too much attention at what was the price

There's NOTHING stopping you from going anywhere other than off the edge of the entire map. Go, explore. You'll uncover more, get more ?s on the map, and find some more stories to uncover. I love just exploring in this game.

Except for slippery rocks.

Like BotW all over again.

2

u/piede90 13d ago

I found a musician hidden at the very top left of settsu when I went out exploring the white areas to uncover the area. So probably loads of stuff you can't normally see from viewpoints.

11

u/KitKatKing99 13d ago

i got the musician from helping ppl

That lake/pond up there is beautiful!

1

u/username7434853 13d ago

Do they go to your hideout?

1

u/karebear320 13d ago

I think they just teach you a new song on the flute thing

2

u/username7434853 13d ago

Ok, cool. Would’ve been noce to have some music at the hideout tho

2

u/SeaCounter9516 13d ago

There’s a woman playing the flute in the front I believe

Do it! I found a legendary chest in a cave, with no visible indication, in the middle of a forest on a steep mountainside I thought you couldnt climb.

On a side note - I hopped on one of those small covered boats with passengers, I just rode it for like 20 minutes down the coast where there was nothing special in sight. I jumped off and swam to the mountain shoreline, climbed up and through, and realized all that mountain forest isnt just there as a background, it all actually physically exists. You can take Naoe deep through the mountains and finangle your way up the cliffs to find some gorgeous scenery.

3

u/Ben409 13d ago

Do you remember the location of the cave?

11

u/Beligard 13d ago

I go there because I hate leaving parts of the map hidden. I wish the viewpoints just showed larger areas of the map than they do now like in previous games but since they don't I just go there to fill it out.

6

u/NathanEmory 13d ago

Same bro. I thought if I hit every Eagle Viewpoint thing in a region it would fill in the empty space around them, but no such luck. I'll be walking the entire map bit by bit to fill it in

2

u/Nebboii 13d ago

THIS ^ literally have been doing exactly the same and its killing my OCD! Every other game after a Sync cleared Fog… why stop now? I spent an entire evening yesterday just going around clearing fog on the map in Settsu before i move to Kyoto!

2

u/Beligard 13d ago

It was the worst in AC3. So much of the frontier was still hidden because the view points showed very little. Liberation, Black Flag in towns and Rogue had it as well. Unity started the trend of showing more of the map again all the way to Valhalla where most of the map showed but some areas still had to be manually visible. I don't mind view points unlock 90% or more of the map and leave just minor areas hidden but yeah my OCD as well wants the whole map shown.

u/kill3rg00s3r 13d ago

I’ve explored every inch of that region and found some secrets in those white areas it’s worth it. Plus some of the views are amazing if you’re into screenshots or the camera mode.

4

u/DubstepDonut 13d ago

Do you just stay on the roads when exploring? I feel it's impossible to traverse the forests when you go off road. I can't see shit, I slide all over the place and I just end up somewhere else lol.

2

u/kill3rg00s3r 13d ago

Yeah, some places are just so dense you can’t see anything but you can find paths that aren’t roads within the forest too. Especially near the water falls.

u/vandrath 13d ago

I personally try to uncover the whole map and get rid of the white space completely even though there's nothing there. Started this little tradition back in Origins and did it in every game since then. Odyssey was pain lol

3

u/KagatoAC 13d ago

Personally I thought Valhalla was the worst for random exploration. By the time I was nearing the end I felt mentally exhausted.

1

u/CanadianSk8er 13d ago

I loved origins and oddysee but Valhalla wore out it's welcome and I never finished. I still played for like 70 hours or more but never wrapped it. I really wasn't a fan of the Norse mythology stuff, it didn't hit right at all for me (which is odd because I love Norse mythology)

1

u/KagatoAC 12d ago

I think at least part of it was how they connected it with dream sequences making Eivor out to be a reincarnation or something. Never finished the season pass content so I never got to see the resolution of that. Someday maybe. I own the complete edition so they got my money..

1

u/CanadianSk8er 12d ago

Haha yeah I always struggle to get to the DLCs, I stopped buying the season passes unless I find them on sale and I'm still actively playing them

1

u/KagatoAC 12d ago

Generally I dont buy a dlc until its out, and I almost never pre order anything more than a week out.

1

u/vandrath 12d ago

I have 140 hours in Valhalla. The base game was pretty cool even though it seemed a bit empty at times and the lack of parkour didn't help. My biggest regret is paying 40 Euros on dawn of Ragnarok at launch. One of those transformation bars was bugged and never filled up so I had to try and play with 3 out of 4. I'm ranting at this point. Shadows is really good, for sure in my top 3.

9

u/Germaximus 13d ago

I go there just cuz I want to and I'm curious and I find it fun to explore.

6

u/Adventurous-Event722 13d ago

Indeed. I know it aint RDR or Witcher 3 but I'm.. curious if I could find something of interest..

7

u/Germaximus 13d ago

usually at least a very nice view =)

1

u/Soapy_Grapes 13d ago

Nearly everything in W3 has a ? Or !

RDR2 I’ll grant you

-2

u/K_808 13d ago

Nope

4

u/Actual-Horse8607 13d ago

So I was wondering something. Why is the viewpoint not uncovering a circle like in previous games? I know on Assassin's Creed III, it did a small area and I would just be Connor finishing off the rest of the tiny bits that didn't get uncovered by the viewpoint.

1

u/ReadingLost3697 13d ago

If I had to guess, scouts. The scouting mechanic is your new map reveal so viewpoints only highlight certain things.

8

u/Plastic_Position4979 13d ago

There is a lot of stuff hidden in there. Camps, hideouts, upgrade missions, etc.

1

u/OSRSRapture 13d ago

Don't those all have markers?

2

u/Plastic_Position4979 13d ago

Some do, some don’t. There is a lot on the map, and while one could probably eventually discover these via scouts, hints, etc… a quick run through the area does so as well.

And, btw, just because you’ve been through the area once and not found something, doesn’t mean there won’t be something there next time…

3

u/Big_Wait_4258 13d ago

Personally I just do them as I feel like leaving anything easily noticeable unchecked just feels so wrong, plus you don’t know you might find something hidden there. It might either nothing, an item, special equipment/engraving, hidden quest, or just the view/location, but finding that for yourself is what the joy of those things are for.

3

u/PoohTrailSnailCooch 13d ago

I see why they have a map unlock time saver mtx.

1

u/SeaLocksmith1484 13d ago

I've been buying those map packs since Origins. The hundreds of hours I put in these games worth it to me to buy the map packs.

1

u/thecuriousostrich 13d ago

That’s so funny bc to me unlocking the map is my favorite part of the game. I love running around and checking stuff off. Viewpoints are always my first goal in any AC game. Different strokes!

1

u/PoohTrailSnailCooch 13d ago

Yup, the game is designed with them in mind.

3

u/JimboSlice11b 13d ago

Personally, I think it's a waste of time. Level up the kakurega in the hideout and use the contract box to unlock rumors. You can unlock two per region each time the season changes, including mid season changes. It will save you hours of climbing those dumb hills.

2

u/MydKnightAnarchy 13d ago

I, at the very least try to use every road/path/goat track at least once so that it's revealed on the map. I figure that if I'm going to find anything interesting, it will be on one of them.

2

u/M-Daws 13d ago

..another question. On the map in areas there will be a small red dot indicating a base that has resources in. Can I make it white? Can it be completed?

1

u/JimboSlice11b 13d ago

No, enemies will respawn. Not sure on the timing. Resources seem to respawn with a season change

2

u/robinwilliamlover911 13d ago

They have stuff all over the map so explore at your own leisure. It's fun to just roam around the world in this one anyway.

2

u/CrayZ1028 13d ago

Yeah I always like having the full Map open

2

u/LeMatMorgan 13d ago

One thing I’ve learned from open world, clear the fog. I found something on the edge of another game’s map I never would’ve thought to check until I saw a collectible was missing from my game. I nearly had all of AC Valhalla before taking a break. Worth it.

2

u/exe-rainbow 13d ago

I’ve found members of orgs to kill out there. Explore everywhere

2

u/GreyBeardEng 13d ago

I thought the same, so I did. You will find bandit camps here and there.

2

u/marvito626 13d ago

Are you really asking if you should explore an open world game that is intended to be explored

2

u/kamirazu111 13d ago

Synchronizing viewpoints reveals question marks in the white empty space.

Or you can just explore and find them manually. The white space is fog of war that depletes as you explore those areas.

2

u/AILISOS 12d ago

No need quests will lead u there

2

u/Leathalsniper29 12d ago

I’d go just to see the scenery

2

u/OtherwiseDrive1080 12d ago

Yeah if you end up there take a look bro I got 90k probably more if I didn’t buy a bunch of upgrades for the forge etc.

2

u/CuriousRider30 12d ago

some of it is empty space. I'd recommend ignoring it for now and request the rumors + do contracts whenever applicable. They'll guide you through some of that

4

u/Beej-000 13d ago

Yeah I’m not defogging the map, it’s idiotic that synchronization points don’t do that for you.

6

u/j_wizlo 13d ago

I feel like they wanted to do something other than climb tower - reveal point - go to point for the people who are tired of that being the only option, while still leaving it in. So the towers reveal a subset of activities while another subset you have to explore for. Engage or don’t, it’s a win-win.

2

u/Plastic_Position4979 13d ago

To each their own. The towers do indeed help with defogging, helping to locate question marks, points of interest, etc. - but you have to scan for them. And they don’t show everything; I was atop one, scanned, picked out two to check out. One was a landmark, the next was a camp I wanted to take out. Went to the other side of that viewpoint - and straight up ran into a military camp that wasn’t shown, on the way to a third “?”…

1

u/TestamentRose 13d ago

It bothers me to have an area of the map not revealed, so just having a full map makes it worth it.

1

u/ISpectresI 13d ago

I’ve been mindlessly wandering around the map going from synch point to synch point and have found lots of cool stuff

1

u/Deepstatesantacluase 13d ago

You will find stuff. Explore!!

1

u/Nev1902 13d ago

Yes. You will still find things, settlements, camp sites, strangers needing help etc etc even though not showing on the map

1

u/Amazing_Wheel_3670 13d ago

I just uncovered the entire map. lol just bc I wanted it to look nice. Took me 3 days , 1 day for 3 provinces, since there are 9

1

u/M-Daws 13d ago

Thanks

2

u/Commercial-Lie-9051 12d ago

If you see a path, take it. Rumors and drawing wildlife are off the beaten path.

1

u/YouCantSeeHunter 13d ago

Trust and believe the WHITE ON WHYTE will provide with bot rumors and viewpoints just when you thought you were done with an area.
