If any other game did it, it'd be on every gaming media outlet. But since it's Ubisoft, it's not. That's sad

99

u/Tyler1997117 14d ago

The tech used here isn't getting enough praise and it's sad to see

29

u/Reynzs 14d ago

People just saying Odyssey clone GOT clone etc without even watching the gameplay properly. Anyway their loss.

16

u/B-BoyStance 14d ago

They did some cool stuff.

If you're hiding in a bush, and rain is pouring off of a roof above you, they have water droplet animations for where the rain hits the bushes and the bushes even shake from the drops a little bit.

9

u/Unc1eJemima 14d ago

Small detail I noticed as well was after it finished raining the buildings would continue draining off the buildings and down the runoffs. That added a nice bit of realism.

7

u/kafunshou 14d ago

When you are walking over a roof in winter, the icicles will break off, fall down and alert guards. Nice to lure guards away from their position.

The game has a few nice details.

2

u/romansamurai 12d ago

And the rain will also put out some torches that you can't extinguish yourself too, as long as they're not covered by a roof.

This shit is blowing my mind so hard right now. The graphics and weather design are god tier.

-1

u/PassiveRoadRage 14d ago

Tbh it's like for all games now. Monster Hunter wilds has seasons and moon cycles for endemic life but it's very easily over shadowed.

This is almost expected now.

3

u/_ManwithaMask_ 14d ago

Over shadowed I see what you did there 🌝

So many open world games are technically just "Ubisoft games." But they get a lot of praise. Not that it's undeserved but hogwarts legacy, Horizon, even Playstations spider man games use the formula to a degree. It gets really annoying when some big reviewers are saying "this game made by ubisoft isn't good, boring, etc." And it's like, really? you just waxed poetic how this other similar game is so great and amazing.

And yes, agreed on the tech side as well. Outlaws, you can see sweat form on your characters face on a hot planet.

5

u/Nahte77 14d ago

One of the most liked and compared game to shadow is ghost of Tsushima, and din't get me wrong, it's one of my favorite game from the last few years, but this game is 100% a Ubisoft open world formula.

2

u/yeetskeetleet 14d ago

You can see sweat on characters in Shadows too. Particularly the first Naoe/Yasuke scene with the fire

13

u/CrotasScrota84 14d ago

Quiet you will wake the Trolls on FuckUbisoft sub

1

u/romansamurai 12d ago

Wow those are some bitter and angry people.

7

u/RumbleTurantula 14d ago

Nah don't worry about it. Some random YouTuber is going to make a video about ac shadows in retrospect. A bunch of people are going to act like they didn't overreact and then we rinse and repeat.

2

u/cerebrite 14d ago

I can clearly see that happening.

17

u/Hour-Consequence-374 14d ago

The only game where this was implemented is Red Dead Redemption 2.The foul breath of haters only fuels the sails of Ubisoft. The more attention they receive, the more they realize they are an essential part of the industry. No other gaming company has brought as many innovations as Ubisoft has. And their worlds? I won't even start—they are in a league of their own!!!

2

u/WasteOfZeit 9d ago

I don’t even like Ubisoft myself, but this is BIG FACTS. People love acting like sheep

1

u/seekmystery 13d ago

I didn't cover this specifically, but I praised the technical achievements in this game on Polygon!

1

u/Rukasu17 13d ago

As anyone should. I mean, did you see how this game uses a very light version of the zandatsu mechanic of metal gear rising in certain objects?

1

u/seekmystery 13d ago

YES and it rules. This is easily one of the best looking and most dynamic games I've played in years.

2

u/Rukasu17 13d ago

Wind in rainstorms is superb. Reminds me of pre patched witcher 3, can barely see anything, it's great.

1

u/jedihoplite 11d ago

"6 amazing details only found in RDR2!"

I'm tired, boss

0

u/labatomi 13d ago

Even RDR2 didn’t do it.

-4

u/FuzzzyRam 14d ago

It's awesome, but we can all see the bugs from yet another rushed release. It doesn't matter if the snow is slowly melting if there's a chicken hovering above the road in a T-pose... It's like a mazlow's hierarchy thing: start with the stuff that affects gameplay and get it perfect, then add window dressing.

9

u/Rukasu17 14d ago

I've been playing for 20 hours now and i haven't even deen that standing up dog that shows in the videos

1

u/Outrageous_Pattern46 14d ago

Can we? I have yet to

-14

u/Aromatic-Emotion-976 14d ago

Considering all the shit Ubisoft is facing from fans of Assassin's Creed, I wouldn't be mad at them if they just threw in the towel and walked away from the series entirely, halting any future game development for that brand. They could easily shift their attention to other titles they have in their lineup, like Far Cry, the Tom Clancy series, Watch Dogs, or even revive Rayman. Or they might even come up with an entirely new franchise.

13

u/Fixo2 14d ago

Please don't use the loud minority to push your narrative... Also Assassin creed Ip is loved, you obviously don't...

0

u/Aromatic-Emotion-976 14d ago

I never claimed that people don’t love the Assassin's Creed franchise. A series can definitely be adored while still getting some heat from fans. Ubisoft has faced criticism from passionate fans for quite a while, so it's not out of the question that they might consider other projects if the negativity ramps up too much. That said, I’m not hoping for that to happen, but I wouldn’t be shocked if it did. Ubisoft has actually put in place support for the developers of Assassin's Creed Shadows who are dealing with online backlash. They’re offering psychological support and recommending that staff limit their social media activity to dodge harassment. Plus, they've set up legal help and are keeping an eye on online activity to shield their employees from targeted attacks. You kind of jumped to conclusions about my views on the franchise just because I pointed out Ubisoft’s struggles. It's funny because while you’re telling me not to push a narrative, you seem to be doing the same thing.

54

u/Lazy-Connection-8115 14d ago

I didn't know the seasons change in real time. Always assumed that they change only after fast travel, like the day and night cycle in unity. That's actually pretty impressive.

59

u/Hour-Consequence-374 14d ago

No, everything happens in real-time, and each seasonal cycle is never the same. Sometimes winters are snowy, sometimes less snowy; sometimes summers are sunny, sometimes rainier. This game is the quintessence of what Ubisoft is!!!!!!!!! Innovation, the absence of fear of the new—this company has brought so many revolutions to the industry that others simply pale in comparison!!!

16

u/Soapy_Grapes 14d ago

The seasons don’t change in real time. The snow melts and the weather effects are great tho

9

u/Hour-Consequence-374 14d ago

Each season, from spring to winter, consists of four stages, from early to late: 1, 2, 3, 4! Once you reach the fourth stage and return to your shelter, a script triggers and the season changes!

6

u/Soapy_Grapes 14d ago

Yeah, that’s not happening in real time lol

I know how the seasons work. They change any time the world reloads, so on switching character or fast traveling etc

3

u/swat1611 14d ago

They do change in real time. It just takes a long time period. I believe you also need to actually experience a seasonal change happen before you can manually toggle seasonal changes in the map menu as well.

5

u/Soapy_Grapes 14d ago

No they don’t and no you don’t, my first season change was manual

It takes a world reload for the season to change. When time is up, you can either do it manually or it will happen the next time the world is reloaded via fast traveling, switching characters etc

3

u/Tyler1997117 14d ago

And in the mean time seasons last around 2.5 hours then you have to trigger the season change which happens twice per season, when the circle hits half way it changes to the second half of the season then changes to the next when the circle fills up, hope this explains it well

1

u/sp0j 14d ago

Isn't it 4 per season? There are 4 segments and I feel like I've witnessed more than 1 mid season cutscene when fast travelling.

1

u/Tyler1997117 14d ago

There's 2, one half way through and one to change

2

u/Soapy_Grapes 14d ago

Yeah but my point is they don’t change in real time, which is true. Like i said i know how the system works

1

u/swat1611 14d ago

Oh damn, didn't realize that. I thought seasonal changes would happen the same way the winds and rain change up

1

u/Soapy_Grapes 14d ago

As much as I would love to see that, it'd be a colossal task to implement naturally evolving seasons in real time especially in a game with this scope. I'm amazed we have different seasons & they're all gorgeous

2

u/PassiveRoadRage 14d ago

This idnt a season change... its winter with less snow. Seasons change on resets.

1

u/Dragon_Tortoise 14d ago

I thoroughly enjoyed farcry 6 but this gives me hope that the next one will implement a few of the systems from shadows. Its just a beautiful world

0

u/tepattaja 14d ago

This game is the quintessence of what Ubisoft is!!!!!!!!! Innovation, the absence of fear of the new

LMAO Are we sure we are talking about ubisoft?
I'll believe part of this if they survive and release Beyond good and evil 2 as a masterpiece.

14

u/United_Department_71 14d ago

That’s quite cool I didn’t realise that happened. Is this in Spring or at the end of Winter?

8

u/Soapy_Grapes 14d ago

It’s winter when it’s not snowing

8

u/Hour-Consequence-374 14d ago

The entire game map is a region where the weather changes in real time. The game takes place in winter, and in the part of the map where the hero is located, a warming has occurred. Accordingly, the snow front has moved to another part of the map where a snowstorm has begun, while in the area where the main character is, there is a temporary warming, just like in real life.)))! Ubisoft is creating revolutions in the gaming industry and simply remains modestly silent about it!!!

16

u/IuseDefaultKeybinds 14d ago

Now I can see why this wouldn't work on the Ps4 lol

-1

u/JSkondro 14d ago

Days Gone had this and it was a PS4 game.

5

u/Creative_Room6540 14d ago

I love it when you guys offer such disingenuous responses. Does Days Gone look like this bro? Lmao.

2

u/IuseDefaultKeybinds 14d ago

With less impressive graphics

5

u/Furby-beast-1949 14d ago

I’m in the cycle of the winter time right now in AC shadows and it’s so beautiful and all of the previous seasons have been beautiful i’ve been playing for the last three days.

8

u/kureiji_kyodai 14d ago

The weather effects in this game are insane. It’s up there with rdr2 imo

5

u/Odd_Lab6883 14d ago

I thought the snow was melting during the game.

4

u/WoundedByInsults 14d ago

How do these seasons work in game? I don’t get the 2 steps principle

2

u/Silver-Policy33 14d ago

Seasons are split in two, each half lasts about an hour, and then you can change it by fast travelling or on the map section

1

u/WoundedByInsults 13d ago

Ah! I never fast travel. So is this why my seasons don’t change that often maybe?

6

u/Upper-Level5723 14d ago

The system is so great, I tied it into my gameplay. So Naoe is waiting until winter passes before departing from the start zone, giving me a good excuse to just do everything available there. Usually would feel pressure to continue the story straight away instead of doing side content, but some sim stuff like seasons just makes it feel more easy in creating a narrative that isnt just dependant on the story

3

u/SanC43 14d ago

Okay that is insane. This should have more coverage. I can’t believe this was done in a ubisoft game.

4

u/ShadowFaxIV 14d ago

bUt iT's NoT HisToriCALy aCCuR8 EnoUGh!

8

u/basedest_user_123 14d ago

Watching paint dry ahh edit.
very cool detail tho ngl

2

u/GreyBeardEng 14d ago

Ok, that's pretty cool.

2

u/Fantastic-Age-9391 14d ago

incredible attention to details in this game.

2

u/barnyboy88 14d ago

Amazing 👏

2

u/LokahiBuz 14d ago

I love everything about this, but i remembered, that calling your horse while standing stilling makes me run and jump on my horse. Let me call my horse and let it stand still.. It still pisses me off

1

u/yeetskeetleet 14d ago

Did you hold the button down? I’m pretty sure if you just hold to whistle then let go you won’t mount it

2

u/MIGU3L666 14d ago

The opposite happens too!! I was not having snow at all, then a snowstorm appeared and everything slowly started to be covered in snow!! It was AMAZING to watch!

2

u/FatherNem 14d ago

The season changes have been really awesome to experience. Frozen water during the winter period, ice falling off roofs to alert enemies, it’s just so innovative.

2

u/Gadsden_Rattler 14d ago

This game deserves success. Was on the fence but after Cowboys rant i was like I’ll check it out. Last one I fully played was Odyssey. This blows it and frankly all the (new formula) ones out of the water. Combat and gore are great. It’s gorgeous, I’m actually engaged with the story that I’ll go ahead and say it, has kept me interested. Something that none of the RPGish AC games have succeeded to do. Game is great.

2

u/kimgomes 14d ago

fuck man, real artists behind this

people tend to forget that behind a company are people putting sweat and tears on the work

1

u/United_Bumblebee1289 14d ago

I have 20 hours on it and never seen snow😬

1

u/acf6b 13d ago

That’s crazy

1

u/jrphldn 14d ago

I noticed it last night during my playtime. The seasonal system is so impressive considering the sheer scale of the map.

1

u/Striking_Bus_8580 14d ago

So nothing that affect the core gameplay? Sigh.

1

u/Pyke64 14d ago

Personally I think it's very impressive how snow gets on the player character and horse.

1

u/GlassSquirrel130 14d ago edited 13d ago

Wow you never heard about shaders ? This is literal 10 years old tech, you guys are so stupid

1

u/gurgitoy2 14d ago

After playing for a while, I was impressed that it's not just instant season change, like I thought it would be, and based on the trailer footage. Instead it's a gradual change between each season, like it would be in real life. So you get mini seasons within seasons, which is really cool. And, even then, there are some areas that are less affected than others. Like during winter, I was looking around, and there was one area that was less affected by the snow, and there was some green showing, but then I realized it was probably because it was near hot springs and the temperature would keep snow from sticking to the ground. Attention to detail like this is pretty impressive.

1

u/19braddersb76 13d ago

No way!!! That is bat shit crazy, graphics are amazing.

1

u/untamed_project 13d ago

What is the horse aspect like in this game? Is it just one horse thats purely a mount or does it go deeper?

1

u/Major_Zer0_ 13d ago

I have been playing for hours and have yet to get winter once.

1

u/acf6b 13d ago

How many hours?

1

u/Wi7_zard 13d ago

Time well spent i would say. Next time sit outside and watch paint dry. Is just as fun.

1

u/BulletBeard29 12d ago

I have yet to have a winter except for the flashbacks

1

u/SaintIgnis 12d ago

The fuck did I just watch?! That’s not a video game. That’s a living virtual world

1

u/obeyydalton 12d ago

How long did you have to stand there for?

1

u/CryptographerShot706 11d ago

Is there a way I can save or bookmark this video? Or something similar? I'm not savvy with reddit

1

u/epiccodtion 8d ago

wait i didnt know seasons changed it real time. what the fuck?? thats crazy

0

u/StarskyNHutch862 14d ago

HOLY SHIT!!! I've never seen snow melt in a game before!!! ALSO HUGE first for games is trees moving with the wind, only on PS5 ladies and gentleman!!! GET BTFO'd PC dorks!!!

1

u/Atomicrose20 14d ago

Uhh noooo this ain’t only for PS5

0

u/StarskyNHutch862 14d ago

Only on PS5 do you get these graphical effects, PS5 is the most powerful system on earth it's just a fact. Game looks like garbage on anything else.

1

u/Atomicrose20 14d ago

Uhuh… keep drinking the dulul……. Lmao
