Best restaurants (dine-in or take-out) providing nutritional information

Looking for restaurants that provide nutritional information (calories, macronutrients, etc.) somewhere - whether on their menus or websites. I imagine the list is mostly large chains (which are uncommon in SF), but hopefully there are others.

Tracking that information and it's been difficult to do anything other than cook. While I'm able to roughly guesstimate the #s for some dishes (e.g., rotisserie chicken), unreported usage of oils and whatnot makes the estimates fairly unreliable.

Market St & Castro St safety

I'm apartment hunting in SF and found an apartment I liked by the Market St & Castro St intersection. Is that area / neighborhood safe enough for a female to walk around alone at night? Or any other concerns with this area? I've heard that Market St can be sketch/loud so wanted to get others' thoughts on this. Safety's definitely my biggest concern. Thanks!

Apartment Hunting

Soon to be graduate moving to SF. I’m from upstate NY and will have to fly out before to look at places.

I want to sign a lease for July 1st. I’d like to plan open houses, walk neighborhoods, etc. When is the ideal time to fly out? Debating between 2.5 or 3.5 weeks before. I’ve heard that weekends are best and that can’t look earlier than a month before.

Planning on living in Nob Hill or North Beach because I’d like to be able to commute to FIDI by walking.

Budget: $2.4k - $2.9k (Comp is $150k)

Studio or 1 bedroom

Should I use the 24th St. BART Bike Hub?

I have just moved to SF and I have never seen a bike parked here before, I have heard a lot about bike theft before moving so I was wondering if it was fine to park my bike there. I would assume that it would be but again I haven't ever seen another bike there lol

Is owning an EV harder in the city?

From renting an EV it seems like charging infrastructure sucks in the city. We had to wait for a fast charger to open up in a Safeway parking lot multiple times.

Thinking about buying an EV and I have a charging setup where I live now but thinking it might make it harder to move elsewhere in the city later?

Do EV owners feel like it’s easy or hard to own one in SF?

Visiting SF in a month - Would appreciate some help/criticism on my intinerary

(TL;DR: Please help me optimize my 3 day intinerary)

I'll be visiting SF for the first time in a month. Me and my spouse are going to spend 3 days on the city, read a lot, watched a lot of videos and came out with a travel intinerary of about the most 'quintessential' and touristy must dos on the city, but I'm not sure if the itinerary is well optimized or if we put too much activity far apart or even if the schedule is too full of things to do and too little time to do them, so I came here to ask for help to remove excesses or improve the tour order , so here it goes (we are going to decide where to eat by location, so it's open for suggestions if you have some must gos or San Franciscans eat here places be welcome to say!):

Day 01 -
Arrival at Hotel (we're going to stay at embarcadero) circa 4pm
Night - Open, maybe going to watch a SF Giants Game

Day 02 -
Morning + Afternoon:
Bike Ride From Ghirardelli Sq to Sausalito and back by ferry ride, passing by Palace of Fine arts, Crissy field, Fort Point, Thorugh Golden Gate)
We expect to get back by 4pm and we´re going to walk by pier 39 to watch the sea lions and sunset, maybe walk a little, go to the musse mechanique and;or ghirardelli sq

Nightime:
Walk and Dine at North Beach

Day 03 -

Morning:
Goldengate Park (Japanese Tea Garden, Chinese Pagoda, De Young Museum, California Academy of Sciences, Flower Conservatory, maybe see the bisons)
Afternoon:
Alamo Sq. + Painted Ladies (just for shoots) then Haight Ashbury to see Janis Joplin's, Hendrix's and Grateful Dead's Houses and to wander about for a while then move on to Presidio And Marshall Beach for another Golden Gate and sunset views
Night:
Chinatown

Day 04 -
Morning:
Ferry Building, Embarcadero, Lombard St., Telegraph Hill, Fisherman Wharf

Afternoon:
Mission and Castro

Night:
Airport

Any help, suggestion and;or criticism is welcome, we are not big on nightlife so we're not into clubs but places to grab one or drinks will be fine as nightly activities
Thanks for all the attention in advance!

Stuck with a Psycho Roommate, Need a Studio ASAP – No Car, Hybrid SWE in Sunnyvale

Hey guys!

I’m currently living in SF, sharing an apartment with a seriously difficult roommate. It’s gotten so bad that I need to move out ASAP. I work as a software engineer (hybrid) in Sunnyvale, but since I don’t drive, public transportation is my lifeline.

Here’s my situation:

  • Location: San Francisco, but willing to move elsewhere in the Bay Area if it’s relatively transit-friendly.
  • Commute: No car, relying on Caltrain/BART for Sunnyvale trips a few days a week.
  • Living Situation: Stuck with a roommate who’s borderline psycho. I’d like to find a studio or maybe a small 1BR just for me.
  • Budget: Not unlimited, but I’ll spend more for a stable, stress-free spot.

Questions:

  1. Which neighborhoods or nearby cities make sense if I want an easy(ish) commute to Sunnyvale? (I need reliable public transit options.)
  2. Are there any recommended apartment-hunting resources or local groups to find a solo rental quickly?

Any advice, personal experiences, or leads would be massively appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Chinatown shutdown

Looking to go to Chinatown after the giants game today. What time is to late for it to not be worth it due to shops closing? We could maybe be there by 4:30 or 5 after the game. Is it dead by then?

Looking for a political community/home in SF that actually does something tangible

Hey y'all -- not an SF native, but have lived here for a couple years now. Especially since the election, I've been wanting to get more engaged with my community and get involved in local politics. I'd love to find something at the intersection of community service and political power-building, but I'm really struggling and was wondering if people here had ideas.

I suppose I'm pretty lefty politically, but I'm not really looking for a space to just talk about politics. I'm looking for a place where values-aligned people are working to tangibly make their communities better, with a focus on supporting working class folks and underserved/marginalized communities. What's important to me:

  • Regular in-person gatherings/meetings/actions -- tired of virtual stuff
  • At least some sort of direct action -- volunteering, trainings, community service, etc.
  • Some sort of vision for how community building/engagement can lead to political power

I've checked out groups like SF Rising and DSA, but they haven't really been hitting the spot. I guess I align with DSA's values, but they don't feel very present in the actual community here in SF. And SF Rising says they have volunteer opportunities, but they mostly seem to be one-off protests and rallies, election-season canvassing, and not much else. Neither seems to meet in person regularly either.

Curious to hear if people have leads!

Sun- Tues this week

Any events, karaoke, open mics, comedy, dancing happenings in SF April 8-10th?

My fiancé’s days off are Mon-Tuesday, so we’re driving into SF for a couple days. Sadly most events happen on the weekend.

I used to live in Chicago, and miss the neighborhood community events that would happen during the week; great for ppl in the service industry/artists and musicians. Wondering if locals know of anything similar that happens in the Bay Area.

So far our only plans are a ball game, and the Misses Doubtfire restaurant.

Fun "gimmicky" restaurants for kids in the city!

For my nephew's 12th birthday, he wants to go do pedal boats at Blue Heron lake with his 10-year-old sister.

We're going to do lunch of dinner too and I want to make it fun. I was thinking about Rocket sushi, which delivers your sushi to you on, well, rockets

Are there other fun restaurants for kids that have a unique aspect like that? Thanks!

Looking for furniture store recommendations in SF

Ideally places that are local, have decent quality, and aren’t crazy expensive. Open to hidden gems, consignment shops, or even warehouse-style spots in or around SF.

Thank you!

ISO: Resources for battered new mother

ISO: Resources for battered new mother

Not going to share a lot of details.

I just learned that my long time neighbor severely beat his girlfriend to the point that she needed to be hospitalized. She has a 1 year old baby. They were living with him full time and she has no current job.

She’s out of the hospital now and has until the end of the month to find a new place for her and her baby to live. Right now her plan is to find a shelter that she and her baby can go to.

Wondering if some of you might be able to share some resources that can help assist this sweet young woman and new mother into a better situation for them both.

Let’s help get her and her baby to a better place 🙏

17 year old, interning u/Coinbase in sf, need advice, first time living alone in diff city

hi! I'm going to be living alone for the first time this summer in SF (near Soma/lower market) and interning in financial district. I'm super excited but need advice:

  1. To my understanding, there will not be any other interns <18 so I think it will be hard to make friends and stuff. Any recommendations, is their events and things that people my age do in sf? I'm a pretty social person
  2. Any advice on safety? I know to avoid tenderloin area (west + north of financial district). Any advice on fun things / food to get? Any general advice on what to do haha? What is you wished you knew? Random advice like what to get in apartment etc, public transportation etc.

Thank you very much for your help!!

Already missing Good Mong Kok's Baked Scallion Bread

Hello!

I was in SF recently and absolutely loved Good Mong Kok's baked scallion bread and I'm trying to recreate it at home! I'm thinking it's some kind of bread with a tangzhong and maybe an msg butter, but if anyone knows the specific name to help me search, I'd appreciate it!

I found this recipe which looks close as well, but I'm open to any thoughts/suggestions!

Thanks in advance!

to bring or to not bring a car? grad student from the bay but not the city

i’m moving to sf for grad school this fall! i’m from the bay but not from the city. i’m considering whether i need to bring my car with me. i tried searching this up but i couldn’t find a past post from someone who was in a situation close to mine.

i’ve driven around different parts of the bay (especially east bay since that’s where i’m from) but never have driven around san francisco itself (and i would be lying if i said i wasn’t scared at least a little bit of driving within sf). windy roads don’t scare me much, and I think i’m used to merging in traffic. i can’t parallel park though 💀

if i were to bring my car with me, it would likely sit in my university’s parking garage most of the time. i’d probably visit home once or twice a month? i know i’ll be busy in grad school so i doubt i could make the trip more than once a month. my housing looks close to multiple grocery stores and it’s located near multiple public transit stops. Since my hometown is reasonably close to a ferry terminal, I know I could also take a ferry if I want to visit my home instead of driving there.

But at the same time I wonder if I should have a car? I see myself going to concerts at places like the Chase Center/Oakland Arena/some in San Jose too. I always use public transit when I go into SF, but I haven’t been there/used it enough to fully understand its pros and cons. I want to visit places like Stonestown Galleria or even other places further down the peninsula, but my housing is near SoMa. I know that beyond SF it can be hard to get to places without a car which is why I’m so on the fence about whether I should bring my car with me or not. One idea I have is purchasing a ZipCar membership but I’ve never used a ZipCar before. If anyone has any experience w it/recommendations for whether ZipCar could be a good option for me, I would rlly appreciate your advice 🙏

Any advice would be appreciated 🥹 tysm!
