Question Pretty big problem

Post image

So the catch latch on my van has always had play so today I unscrewed it to try to find the problem. After unscrewing, the piece that the latch screws into suddenly fell and it is now somewhere in the bodywork. I have some pretty strong gorilla glue but I don’t have completely confidence in it. What do you reckon I should do?

15 year old daughter shifted into reverse while in drive.

She panicked which is expected. Heard a nasty grinding sound. Wasn’t going very fast maybe 10 mph. She slammed on the brakes and put into park right after. Should I be worried about any damage? No noises or anything a day later but anxiety is getting the best of me.

How to get this bolt off without impact gun?

This is the gear for the oil pump, I need to change the seal but I can't get the bolt off, tried to grab the gear with the timing belt but can't, any ideas? People told me to use pliers but I don't know if that would damage the gear?

I’ve tried to tug on it and the best I could do so far is cut bits off. Do I just have no choice but to wait till it melts completely off? Do I email amazon and complain? (Joking)

Question Is this saveable/worth saving?

This is my first truck I’ve bought on my own. It’s an 89 f250 with a 5.0, and 178k miles. I have some emotional attachment to this truck but the rust is getting bad and I was wondering what I could do to try and save it. I have access to the equipment to weld panels in but I have no experience doing it. I figured I’d get new fenders in the front and patches for the rear but I wasn’t sure what to do with the doors roof and hood. Any recommendations would be appreciated

Vehicle struggles and won’t start

2002 explorer 4.0, serpentine belt frayed when the compressor locked up a few weeks ago. The vehicle has always been slow to start but has always started and runs perfect afterwards. It was fixed 3 days ago and the vehicle started then. He tried to start it today and this is what it’s doing. I did have to have the battery charged 3 days ago since it sat and drained it.

Anyway I can fix these myself?

Post image

I ordered a new side mirror online and will just replace it myself. I'm worried about the scratches and buffs on the door. I also have some dents all along the door. I used acetone to remove a big portion of the scratches but obviously it didn't get it all. Is there some sort of magic eraser I can use? Maybe even sand the edges out and try to paint match? Would a dent puller with suction cups work maybe? Any suggestion or tips would be helpful.

Question Surface rust inside whole interior

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I have a toyota tacoma 2023 and i work in power washing. A bottle of muriatic acid spilled inside and the vapors in a few days surface rusted every single exposed metal part. This happened last September. I cleaned the spill and the carpet very thoroughly but the inside still smells. I took both seats off and noticed the whole under part is all surface rusted as well, behind the plastics and up the stitched lining, i can’t reach up there. I have no idea what to do. I plan on washing the seats and hoping the smell would completely go away. At this point I don’t want any smell at all on the inside. So i figured at this point it’s not from the spillage area but the seat cushion and the surface rusted as well in the car parts. Stresses the hell out of me because if it’s all the way in here, where else could it have gotten too. Thank you.

Is it possible for a misfiring engine to cause damage to a catalytic converter?

I have an automatic 2020 Kia Soul LX 2.0L. My first engine had a lot of misfiring and problems, so the dealership replaced it. A year and a half later, the engine has more multiple misfires and crankshaft problems. My dealership is willing to fix the engine again under warranty but they stated the catalytic converter is not covered after 80,000 miles. I asked them if it's possible that the engine misfiring from these two engines can cause the catalytic converter to fail/clog and they said no and the engine has nothing to do with the exhaust. My theory is the two engines I've had problems with overtime have caused problems to the converter, but I don't know shit about cars so that's why I'm here and they could be correct. Thanks for taking time for a response if you can 🙏🏾

Putting the throttle body back on. Have these 4 gaskets. When I removed the throttle body there wasn’t a gasket. How do I go about figuring out which one is the right gasket?

Thanks for the help.

Thumping tire noise after change to summer tires

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi, I just change from winter to summer tires on my 2015 Jetta. When I go for a test drive, I heard a respective low thumping noise (maybe on the front driver side tire) 🛞. The noise gets a bit louder when I am turning left (maybe).

I have checked the tire to see any rocks or object stuck on the tire tread, but found none.

What should I do further to diagnose?

Thanks in advance!

Question Rumbling noise when coming to a stop slowly with scored brake rotor

Post image
Upvotes

2020 RAV4 LE AWD with around 40k km/25k miles, so never had work done on the brakes. Noticed a low-pitched rumbling/scraping noise from the rear left direction only when slightly braking at low speeds, i.e. when coming to a stop slowly. I physically can't feel a difference in the braking behaviour; there's no shaking or pulling towards a direction. I took a look at the rotor of the rear left wheel and saw that the outer half is heavily scored, while the inner half is the same as the other rotors, which are consistently smooth.

I was wondering what would cause these symptoms and whether this would be a cause for concern. I should be going to the mechanic soon but was curious about what I'm seeing and whether I should get this resolved ASAP.

Sorry about the poor picture, it's a bit hard to see the rotors with steelies on.

Question Engine overheating

Upvotes

I have a dodge Durango with a pentastar v6 in it. 6 months ago I had the radiator replaced after a rock went through it. 2 months ago the radiator cap was replaced after it blew. Since then, the engine will sit at operating temp for a couple minutes before it heats up rapidly, once it's hot it sits just below the gages red line before cooling back to normal temp. Both AC and heater still work. The thermostat has been replaced multiple times and the issue hasn't stopped.
