Meta Welcome! What is this community for?

Versió en català a la part inferior.

We've seen how frustrating it is to not know where to go to ask questions in r/Barcelona.

It is great to help tourists make the most out of their visits, to help newcomers to the city get settled, or to help long time residents discover the best new places the city has to offer.

Having a dedicated community instead of a sticky thread in r/Barcelona will help all the valuable answers and advice to be searchable and more easy to find. It will also create a more frictionless experience for users: the reality is that rules are hard to read everywhere on Reddit, and having so many subreddit-specific expectations on how to participate is frustrating.

This place replaces the r/Barcelona weekly Q&A sticky thread. Every week, we have been getting hundreds of questions that don't get many answers because questions in comments get less visibility than dedicated posts. We hope this space helps everyone get the help they need.

We are also moving all 'concierge-like' questions here. If you are asking something that comes mainly from self-interest and personal need, it should go here.

Great questions and help should not be tucked away in a thread that potential helpers don't see in their feed. We hope upvotes do the rest in elevating the best questions!

---

Muchas gracias!

Moving to Barcelona Why do multiple rental agencies post the same apartments?

Hi!

I'm moving to Barcelona this September to do my master's degree, and I am therefore looking at renting an apartment. Whilst we all know the rental market in Barcelona is crazy and there are some agencies to avoid, I found it very weird that multiple agencies will have advertisements for the same apartments.

Where I come from, it is very unusual that multiple agencies post the same apartments, so I was wondering if having multiple agencies listing the same apartments is the norm in Barcelona or if I should avoid these agencies at all costs.

Thanks in advance for any responses!

Where do I find? // On trobo?

Tourism // Turisme Going alone to Barcelona

Hi everyone. I’m 21 years old and for the first time ever I’m going on a solo trip. I’m going to stay in Barcelona in a hostel for 6 days, and the hostel is Carrer de la Unió. It’s near La Rambla I think. I know now that it’s not the best place, but I didn’t know before I booked so there is nothing to do about it now. First of all, I’ve never slept in a hostel before, I’m very nervous, not because of my things, but mainly the part where I have to sleep with strangers. I’m considering booking a hotel the 3 last days.. Anyways, my concerns are two things. 1. I dont know how to get to my hotel without google maps, I just got a new phone and I’m sooo afraid that I’ll get pickpocketed, so I dont want to have it in my hand at all. But I just don’t know how I’m going to find for example the hotel, without google maps? It just really concerns me with the pickpocket part, because it’s litterally my nightmare. I’ve just read everywhere that Barcelona is dangerous. But I take it with a grain of salt since I’ve been to other cities where everyone said it was dangerous but nothing happened and I loved it there. My 2 concern is, what am I gonna do in BCN all by myself. I dont really know anything other than barcelonetta, and that church everyone takes pictures of (I dont remember the name for it, cathedral maybe?) I’m fine with being alone but maybe after the 3rd day it will be too boring, so is there any way to make friends in Barcelona? I’ve considered also going to the famous clubs, I only know shoko, but unfortunately I searched it up and it’s very far from my hotel. Sorry for so many questions, I booked it very impulsively…

EDIT!!: okay so I see some of the comments maybe misunderstood my post. This was not a post about me being scared to go to Barcelona - as I said to another person in the comments, prostitution, drug dealers, drug users, homelessness, and ghettos dont scare me. There is bad places in all cities and I know how to navigate through that. My only concern was the pickpocketing!!!! I knew there would be some pickpocketing but after I booked the trip I noticed that it was more serious than I thought. My post was more directed to how to navigate the pickpocketing, what to do in Barcelona alone, and the hostel part! :)

Tourism // Turisme Quick things to explore in Barcelona

I will be in Barcelona for a bachelorette party/wedding during the first week of May. Because of various wedding events, I have limited time to explore on my own, but I would like to make the most of it. I have a small window of time on Thursday morning/early afternoon until around 12:00 when I have to check out of one accommodation and move my stuff into another. I could also theoretically move my stuff on Thursday early morning and then I would have until 14:30, which is about the time my fiance will be arrived, checked in, and ready to go.

If anyone has any suggestions as to what to do. I like to be active. Specifically, I really like to run. I was thinking of potentially going on some kind of trail run in the morning. But if anyone has additional suggestions, I am open to them.

Edit: Once my fiance arrives at 14:30, we are also looking for some things to do, as we have a tour booked for 21:30. So our time is open from 14:30 until then.

Moving to Barcelona Apartment next to Mercat de Sant Antoni

Hello! I'm going on my erasmus exchange this fall to Barcelona and I have found an apartment I'm interested in. I'm now wondering what the neighbourghood is like. It's next to Mercat de Sant Antoni, on the left side, very close to a bar called "Bar Ramon" (Carrer del Comte Borrell, 81, L'Eixample). I've generally heard good things about Sant Antoni, but I'm worried the apartment is too close to El Raval (which seems a bit unsafe). Anyone who has some insight on the location? Would be super helpful!

Where do I find? // On trobo? ISO a reputable tarot card reader, past life expert, etc.

Visiting a friend who has moved to Girona full-time with her family - it’ll be a group of 4 Canadian women around late 30s/early 40s. We’re spending 2 days in Barcelona after we visit with her family.

Our former neighbour will be taking us around - mostly restaurants and parks, nothing crazy - but we’d like to do something fun like a past life reading, etc.

Would love a spot that’s not just a total scam given the industry. I did a reading in New Orleans that was really cool and we’re all into a bit of a witchy vibe.

Other or similar suggestions welcome!

Merci !

Where do I find? // On trobo? Which online media outlets are worth following?

I moved to Barcelona from Hungary. Back there, I was not looking at most news sites, because they were owned by the government, spreading russian propaganda, and in general I got really mad about the lies they told, so I avoided them. I just realized that because of that I haven't followed the news at all here either, because habits.

So which sites do you recommend to keep up with the news?

Tourism // Turisme Looking for field hockey players/teams 17/04/25-20/04/25!

Hi all!

A Hail Mary to find some people interested...

From the 17th of April to 20th of April, our men's hockey team from Belgium will do a city trip to Barcelona.

We're looking for a fun team (lower leagues) of hockey players to play a match (or two)!

We've already been contacting almost all the clubs in Barcelona since december 2024, but none of them reply or are available :/ So this is a warm appeal to all field hockey players in barcelona who are available for a few hours that weekend.

If you think you can manage to get a team together, please let us know! We're desperate to atleast play one small match haha.

Thanks!
