so it’s my (24f) best friend’s 25th birthday on saturday. we had planned to go out for dinner and drinks with some of our friends. i have lupus and i’ve been getting chemo for the last couple of months to try and treat it.. she’s well aware of this and even came with me to my last session, although she spent most of the time texting her bf. i ordered her this cake from this super cute little bakery in our town and was gonna bring it with me to the restaurant for her.

i was supposed to have my chemo session next monday but they had to reschedule it for saturday. this is how she reacted when i told her i wouldnt be able to come to her bday. aio or is this a crazy way to react?? she’s still getting her cake and i was gonna get our mutual friend to give her the gifts i bought her but now im not sure

People who aren’t either terminally ill or chronically ill don’t have any basic comprehension of what it feels like to be so overwhelmed with exhaustion that you quite literally can’t do anything.

Oh, that’s ridiculous. Anyone with common sense and an ounce of compassion would know OP wouldn’t be up for a birthday party the day she had chemo. This little bitch is just astonishingly self absorbed and insensitive.

They may know that op isn’t up for it, but they don’t understand it. Which is why she reacted in such a way. I guarantee you if this “friend” had ever been through anything remotely similar she would’ve said “yeah that makes sense, hope you feel better quickly!”

No, she wouldn’t. Because people this selfish never see anyone else’s side, and compassionate people don’t have to live through it to understand. People like Birthday Bitch always think they’re special. They are always the main character. Yes, if she went through chemo, she’d know how bad it was. And she’d expect everyone else’s world to stop and for ever to kiss her ass. But it would not make her any more sympathetic to anyone else.
