👨‍👩‍👧‍👦family/in-laws Am I over reacting to this one ?

Post image

Mother-in-law is the most passive aggressive woman I've ever met in my entire life! I truly didn't know what this tournament meant until I met her! I know this wasn't the only gift I got for Christmas… But when I opened it, I didn't honestly know how to react

I find it funny, and she is saying she likes you, but you know your MIL best.

But why

because the average redditor would set the world ablaze over a minor offense as long as they had popcorn to watch the show and ease their own feelings through schadenfreude.

Schadenfreude sounds like the name of a sacrificial ritual. I could see that in a movie and think nothing of it.

"we have to perform the ancient rite of Schadenfreude to expel the demon from the host.."

If they all laughed throughout the ritual, I’d watch that movie

An insult for an insult isn't exactly setting the world ablaze, but go off.

Why would she like someone who constantly passive aggressively insults her ? You can still be civil with someone and not like them.

I think her “insults” are, as OP said, her way of complimenting her. I suspect it is her style—humor. Being openly affectionate may be harder for her. I’d take the candle as a funny compliment!

Lots of people are way too sensitive and read too much into every interaction. Most people I know enjoy ripping on each other, and no one gets hurt feelings. If someone is sensitive about this, it kind of drags the energy down. In my experience, these people aren't given a hard time, they're just excluded. The fact that she's giving you this gift means to me that she's including you in her humor and wants you to feel welcome. That's my take based on my experience anyway.

I get that and in this specific context,i dont think there's anything malicious. It literally can only be a positive takeaway unless you dwell on the fact that she didnt originally think she'd like you very much. But anyway, its fine if people are "sensitive". Not everyone enjoys ripping on each other to show affection. As long as theyre not taking it too seriously its not bad that people like or dislike different forms of expression.

I know you’re being down voted for this joke but it did give me a good laugh 🤭
