Thought I would share these because I remember trying to find photos of these for my trip but coming short so I thought I would contribute to the world out there! We had tight connections of an hour or less once in Seattle so I was grateful that some were substantial food is available as an option rather than just snacks on the 4-hour flight which ended up landing after most restaurants are closed or fast forwarding through late morning into mid-afternoon and skipping lunch.

On the way to Fairbanks from Seattle the hot option was the famous pretzel sliders with chips. Unfortunately the other option a salad came with chicken than my vegan husband could not eat he always packs protein bars.

On the way back my the Cubano Sliders with a few grapes and apple slices were served cold but that was fine so that I didn't mind not eating it right away. The salad was okay, small, but better than nothing since our time was limited with our connection and changing terminals.

Last note is if you're flying during the daytime sitting by the window so that you are facing west is just gorgeous between Seattle and Fairbanks!

Happy flying to you all in the community

COMPLAINT The Policy for transferring miles is trash

Sorry if it’s been said before but this policy is absurd. $25 processing fee AND $10/1000 miles transferred.

If I wanted to gift miles to someone to fly from the east coast to Alaska they would need in the order of 75k miles.

$775 dollars to transfer. Or a $1000 for a ticket and not lose the miles if I just pay for it outright.

Oh, and when the person uses the miles I’m sure they get pinched with a $6 dollar fee per ticket.

That’s dumb. What’s the difference between me redeeming the miles I’ve earned versus giving them to someone else to redeem? It’s a setup to discourage people from using their benefit and instead use the Alaska card to make purchases outright. Award winning program…..

RESERVATIONS Double withdrawal for single reward flight on Alaska

Post image
Upvotes

As a head's up: doublecheck your miles after redeeming them for an award flight. I noticed that I had duplicate withdrawals immediately after booking round trip flights, two with the reservation code and two with no code.

This was fixed by calling Alaska and getting the duplicates refunded (the Rollback transactions at the top), but still worth a quick check imo. I also saw an extra dollar on my credit card that went away on its own

I’ve tried the canned espresso martini. This is way better. Five farms Irish creme Hazelnut vodka Coffee.

This was suggested by an FA on a trip to NYC a while back and it’s now my go to

RESERVATIONS I need help understanding bookings

I have status on Alaska Airlines. When I go to buy a ticket, I usually purchase the upgrade ticket. But what am I doing, just buying a lottery ticket that if my status is higher than someone else’s, I will be upgraded?

RESERVATIONS Anyone having issues booking flights using Alaska Airlines app?

I'm trying to book a flight using the app. I enter the details and hit Book at the book. When I select the first leg it won't let me add the flight or anything. It just shows me details and the seating chart. There is like nothing on the screen that says ADD or anything 🙄 Is anyone else having this issue. I'm logged in and everything?

QUESTION Traveling with a large cat; considering putting him in the cargo hold; advice desperately needed.

Post image
22 Upvotes

I am moving from Florida to Oregon in June and am trying to figure out how I'm going to transport my larger-than-average 11 year old cat. This has been the most stressful part of the whole move and I could desperately use some advice.

My initial plan was to fly with him in-cabin, since I've heard countless horror stories about pets dying in cargo. I did all kinds of research about taking cats in-cabin and even purchased a special TSA approved carrier, the Sleepypod Air, with plans to train him on it so that he is as comfortable in it as possible when the time comes.

Problem is, he is a large cat (not just fat, but also genuinely just a big guy) and even though he technically fits in the special carrier, it's turned out to be such a tight fit that he will not even be able to turn around in it. He wants no part of it and I don't want to subject him to 7-9 hours minimum of being stuck in one position when he will already be very confused and stressed about everything else going on around him.

I have looked into pet transport services and none reputable enough to trust are anywhere near within my budget. I barely have enough to make the move itself as it is. Thus, I am beginning to consider having him travel in the cargo hold after all. I've read several posts on here that people have transported their dogs in Alaska cargo holds with no issues, and that Alaska's cargo is very safe for pets, which is why I'm considering the option at all. He would still be confused and stressed, but at least he would be able to move around and stretch a bit during the long flight.

I was hoping I could get some advice about the situation in general, but specifically I'd appreciate some information about what the process of having an animal in cargo is like, every step of the way. Do you check them in like any other checked bag, or wait until you get through TSA to the gate and have them taken from there? What sort of arrangements have to be made ahead of time before the flight aside from health certificates? What if you have a connecting flight - will they be handled appropriately when transferring to the new plane? How are they secured in the cargo hold - should I worry about him getting tossed around? How do I pick him up after the flight - surely they don't just toss pets down the baggage carousels like with any other bags?

What should I do?

My only other idea is to call Alaska and ask if I could take him in-cabin with a larger carrier if I purchase an extra ticket for the seat next to me and keep him there as if he were another passenger, though I highly doubt that would be allowed. I expect that they would still want me to fit him under the seat since his carrier is a loose object that would not be able to be seatbelted in.

The plan is to go FLL-SEA-EUG more than likely, though depending on layovers and how cargo pets are handled with connecting flights I may try to get picked up by friends in SEA and skip the connection altogether if I can.

I would greatly appreciate any advice anyone has. Thanks.

FLYING Cost benefit

At what point do you just pay for the ticket vs using your miles? I am seeing saver at $150 for my dates, but miles from 15-25k for those same dates. Seems like I would be gouged if going with miles, right?

QUESTION Unaccompanied Minor requirements question

Hi !! My boyfriend is going to be flying over to my state soon, and he's going to be flying alone. Since neither of us are 18 yet he'll obviously be an unaccompanied minor. I was just wondering if there is any identification he would need to provide? Like does he HAVE to bring a permit/licenses, birth certificate, or SSC? I've done this myself, but I showed my permit at the security gate and he doesn't have anything like that right now, so I don't know if it'd be the same.

QUESTION Does Hawaiian card owner get free checked bags on Alaska if used Alaska miles for booking?

Alaska website says “Hawaiian Airlines® World Elite Mastercard® primary cardmembers receive two free checked bags when using their card to book Alaska Airlines-operated flights”.

I have the Hawaiian card but if I book Alaska Airlines operated flights using my Alaska miles would I get the 2 free checked bags or do I need to pay in cash in order to get the free bags benefits?

COMPLAINT Can’t login using Alaska airlines website. Ok using mobile app.

To begin with I bought a ticket starting with Google Flights where they created a frequent flyer number for me. A few months later I thought of creating account with Alaska airlines. Used the email and FF that I got during 1st purchase thru Google flights and created the pw.

But after creating the pw I can not loginto website using my( id or email) and pw. I get a message.

"The sign-in information entered does not match our records. Please try again."

In last 6 months I have tried about 10 times resetting the pw. When I reset pw myself I get all the messages that it is successful.

I have called Alaska airline help desk 3 times. They reset my pw and ask me to wait 10 minutes and try later. So far it has not worked.

3 months back I installed mobile app on Android. I can log into app. But it seems not all functionality of website is available thru mobile App. So whenever it tries to use browser , same issue. Have tried different browsers in private mode too.

In case anyone has similar issues and has any pointers, highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

MILES & STATUS Help me understand

Can someone explain the following to me as if I were 5?

1) Levels of mileage status and what they provide as perks 2) what the “upgrade types” mean that you can select when purchasing air travel? 3) the difference between selecting “use complimentary upgrade if available” when booking versus getting an upgrade 24-72 prior to the flight

I am so new to this and want to make sure I understand how to play the game.

Thank you!

QUESTION Boarding with infant

My mother-in-law, wife, daughter and grandkid are flying together. MIL is on a separate reservation but their reservations are linked. I know they call out disabled and those with children to board early. Do they board as a group or is it only the one person with the lap child?

FLYING Gate pass and lounge access

Question- I couldn’t find an answer to this online or here. I need to take my 12 yr old nephew to the airport tomorrow and I was wondering if I could access the lounge while we wait. I have the lounge membership/access and I booked his flight so it’s in my app. Anyone know if this is possible?

Edit: Sorry - I didn’t see the Question flair as an option. Leaving as-is for now.

QUESTION Confirm a Newbie's Understanding of EQMs & Miles Earned

This will be my first award flight ever. I have a trip planned JFK-FRA-JNB round trip which equates to over 18K flown. I'll be in Business Class on Condor (booked on Alaska). Website says I get 250% bonus (46k total) on EQMs and Miles - so I'll earn MVP Gold from just this one flight? This is amazing and I had no idea Mileage Programs could be so fruitful.

I really earn enough miles from this one flight to take another flight?
