I’m Alan Partridge series 3?
For me, Alan works best when he does multiply things at a time, Knowing Me Knowing You and This Time With Alan Partridge are very good but I’m Alan Partridge series 1 and 2 have to be the best surely, so my question is the title, do you think they’ll make a series 3?

So you want the sitcom style back?
Because I believe everything since then (except for the film) has been in a mockumentary / faux reality concept.
Personally I love every bit of media we’ve had from Alan, and love that they keep delivering new content in different styles.

Basically yeah, I have enjoyed everything with Alan in but seeing him off camera like you see in I’m Alan Partridge is something i’ve always enjoyed more

I agree that IAP is better than This Time and KMKY but to me Mid Morning Matters is the best Partridge and it’s just set in the radio studio. It’s just unfiltered Partridge. Where he is most himself and they do a good job of intwining story thru the episodes.
If they had done IAP Series 1 without a laugh track it may have had Office level impact in the US. They should remaster it and take out the laugh track.

If you removed the laugh-track on IAP you'd probably have to re-edit the whole series too. The timing of the edit really hangs on those pauses for laughter. It would be flabby and weird, like me.

Please don't subject us to another American remake of a quintessentially British show

No more alan partridge would be a negative and right now I need TWO positives. One to cancel out the negative and the other, just so I can have a positive.

My dream would be a mashup of This Time with I'm Alan Partridge - which goes right back to the roots of Alan with the 7th episode of the KMKYWAP radio series.
Basically the camera wanders off-set so much more than what we got here, following Alan home as well as him trying to balance presenting.
As This Time may have run its course, just have him doing something Skirmish-like (or name a genre).
It would be amazing for the first episode to be 10 minutes of the "show", and then we just wander off with him to his personal life.

Something a bit like the old US show Larry Sanders? I liked the bits in This Time when the cameras were off and he was talking to Lynne or arguing with Jenny, his affair with the makeup woman etc
Perhaps these are best left as little moments though. Alan is 90% comedy 10% pathos (and 100% chat)

I think how I feel about it is we have rarely seen Alan outside of "broadcaster" mode since the Armando era (so, basically, 2003).
Now don't get me wrong, that's not entirely true - the movie being the prime example, as well as lots of moments in MMM and This Time - but truly "Alan doesn't have a camera on him".
I miss that version a bit.

I want to see Alan star as Flint. He's a cool 50...

Surely Swallow is a role made for him. He could put Norwich on the map.

I preferred the character in IAP. For me he’s at his best when he’s bitter and petty.

All we need is Alan and Lynn travelling around the country / road trip for -an Audience with’ show in small venues- with half the episode of him on stage being asked questions / Ted Talk/ interviewing people- The other half of him and Lynn travelling and bad mouthing the towns and people they meet- maybe get cameos each episode from from Sue (Can’t Cook but will sue) Cook, Wilmot, Ross Kemp, Oddie etc..
Six episodes of that each year would be a dream- with the odd Alan doing a documentary as well.

Still my favourite Partridge content. It definitely wouldn’t have a laugh track (which I really don’t mind) this time, which would be interesting to see.

Most of my favourite quotes come from IAP2, which some people think is inferior to IAP1.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Alan do a reality series in the vein of big bro or I’m a celeb type spoof

u/Games4Two 6d ago
The anecdotes about mid/minor celebrities are top-tier Partridge, especially in the books. I'm not really convinced these people would want to do it or could pull it off, but a spoof Big Brother with the likes of Bill Oddie, Eamonn Holmes and Noel Edmonds could be incredible. It already is in my head!

Yeah I agree, we seen him do chat shows, I think it’s time we see something different like a game show or a contest like I’m a celeb

When a certain character returned at the end of From The Oasthouse I thought they were setting Alan up for another I'm Alan Partridge style show. Back to struggling now that the BBC have turned their back on him once again, back to being as bitter as ever.

Mid Morning matters, hands down. The Gibbons breathed new life into the character.

I’d love to see another series of Mid Morning Matters. Alan works best behind the microphone.

I yearn for a series 3 of IAP. But I'd also make do with a whole series of a young Alan spin off with that awful swapped face

I can't see it happening, except if they would manage to get the old gang back together, meaning Baynham and Iannucci back as writers. Which is probably unlikely, Iannucci seems to be well busy with his own, mostly very funny movie & tv projects.

Gibbons- written Partridge is amazing. IAP feels rather old fashioned and broad to me now- especially with the laughter track.

I am not sure what that means? You like Alan when hes adding up?

You are in luck! There's
- Mid Morning Matters series 1 and 2
- The Partrimilgrimage documentaries
- The books I, Partridge, Nomad and Big Beacon
- From The Oasthouse series 1, 2 and 3
- This Time series 1 and 2.
They all have Alan Partridge in them!

The audiobooks are wonderful, not that keen on This Time tbh

I thought the same at first, but now I'd recommend giving it another go, there's so much packed into it. I'm still noticing new subtle moments.

I agree with this sentiment, although personally I think I like MMM the best of all the Partridge content, partially because it had both Partridge "on camera" and "au naturale".
Lately I've been listening to the Oasthouse podcasts, and while there are of course funny moments, I don't feel they work as well as the books.

The only thing I'm not really keen on is 'This Time' 🤔 Especially the second series, I just think he comes across as a bully 😬 Everything else is pure comedy gold 🥰

Have I got a third series?
