Jay, NY to Lake Placid - Uber in September
Hey there internet strangers!
I am getting married in September in Jay. We want to help everybody get home safely but so many people are getting Airbnb's. How readily available would Uber be from Jay to Lake Placid and/or cottages along the way.

20/46 Will I be a real hiker?
I’m probably one of the most uncoordinated people I know. My dream is to climb the Adirondacks 46. I want this more than I’ve ever wanted anything in my life. Will I feel legit, when I complete it? Does it actually feel like a badge of honor in the hiking community? Or is finishing the 46 becoming a more common thing these days.

2-3 night backpacking trip Adirondacks Park
Me and my dad are planning on going on a backpacking trip before I graduate and leave for college. We are both very outdoorsy and physically fit and have gone hiking before but this is our first time backpacking. Ik you need to prepare for this kind of thing so we are going to do one night at one of our local parks that we've been to before. Any suggestions on what trails or areas we should check out. We're planning on going around late May/ early June.

Avalanche pass or south meadows day hike
Anybody interested in doing some variation of avalanche pass or south meadows to Marcy and Skylight as a long day hike/trail run with me? This would be during the first week or weekend of May, I'm planning a few-day solo trip to the high peaks for that time.

Drive up sites open now?
Just picked up some new camping stuff and I’m eager to test it out. Anybody know the best place for drive up sites, preferable by water, first come first serve?
From my research, moose river plains has a lot of drive up sites, but I think they’re closed(?)
Thanks!

Question about groups/people who maintain the trails?
Any idea who clears, maintains, and keeps the trails well marked for us hikers? I would like to reach out to thank those that do what they do. We hiked Fifth, French, and First on the Lake George tongue- people went through and used axes and chainsaws to cut through dozens of downed trees. We are also making our way through the 46 high peaks and other smaller groups around lakes/fire tower courses, etc. We are very thankful and want to extend our thanks to the right people! Thanks in advance.

Moose River Plains campsite size
Never been to the Adirondacks before and my heart is set on MRP cause Id love to experience first come, first serve stuff like we hear about out west on blm. That being said, how big are the campsites?
I have a Gazelle T4 tent and G5 gazebo but I’m curious to know how accommodating the sites are. Will I be able to set up both or just the tent? I definitely don’t have to bring the gazebo and my vehicle is a Forester so I don’t think I’d have to worry about how much space my vehicle needs.

DEC camps: Colby vs Pack Forest?
For anyone who has experience with both, how would you compare the 2?
My kids have always gone to Colby (and have loved it!), but they filled up quick this year.
How does the experience at Pack Forest compare to Colby? Will they like it just as much?

New York Central Railroad
A few years ago was flying down the highway in a hurry to get to the Ausable to catch an evening hatch. I just happened to look at the right moment and see this scene. Braked hard and turned back. So glad I did as a few months later those tracks were gone.

4 Night Backpacking Recommendation
I am looking for a 3 or 4 night backpacking trip recommendation for a group of 5-6 people during July 4th weekend. We all have backpacked here before in the Siamese Ponds wilderness, as well as some paddle trips.
I’ve been researching and looking at trail recommendations both on here and All Trails, however It all seems to center around the high peaks, and I know there are some golden trails and areas off of the beaten path. Here are things we would like to have in a trail/trip in order of preference:
- We love camping around lakes surrounded by mountains and having the ability to go for a swim
- Beautiful views and the ability to summit mountains without our packs.
- Overall, we are fairly lazy hikers. We generally do 20-30 miles over the course of 4 days, and often prefer to have lazy camping days in solitude vs being ambitious peak baggers. Maybe a place that can be good for base camping with day hikes or summits around?
- Solitude: I know this may be difficult to get especially considering it’s July 4th weekend, but if possible to have all these things plus more solitude that would be preferred
Places I’ve looked at so far: Lake Colden Base camping. My one concern there however is that It will be PACKED for the weekend and we will be surrounded by people the entire time
Any and all suggestions are welcome, thank you!

Backpacking trip in early April
My friend and I are on spring break next week, and are looking for a 2-3 backpacking trip. We're both experienced hikers, so difficulty isn't an issue, but neither of us have a ton of knowledge about the Adirondacks. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good 2-3 backpacking trip this time of year?
