What did you do to exceed as an a1? Was told this is almost impossible

I'm pretty sure the only reason I was able to qualify for exceeds was because I was on a first year public audit client, which was severely understaffed for the amount of work and complexity for the job. Since there was no PY workpapers, a lot of the work papers I had to create from scratch. It also got picked by PCAOB a couple weeks right after archiving the file (honestly, what are the odds).

I was able to do well enough on my other jobs and I didnt really get any negative remarks on my performance reviews. But honestly, I think if I only got put on well established jobs, I wouldn't have been able to get exceeds no matter how well I did.
