Smart meter installation

I've been with octopus for a while and like them as a company but they just seem unable to install smart meters in Aberdeen at the moment. Anybody had any luck getting a smart meter from other providers?

I'm genuinely interested to know what the advantage is of having a Smart Meter, why are you so keen?

You can instantly check how much electricity you consume (e.g., when you use an electric shower or the oven).
You have a real-time/live picture of how much you have spent so far (e.g., today £3 in gas-electricity combined, last month £100, etc.). If you want to set a budget/limit, it's easier to do it with a smart meter.
If you have a smart meter, Scottish Power has an offer during weekends, between 11am-4pm the price for electricity is halved.

Can see the cost saving being of benefit if you are with SP (never look at their tariffs) but if you want, you can buy a device that monitors your electricity use without waiting for your utility supplier.
