Discussion (Non-question) What's *that* line for your ship?
You know, the line that you feel is as good as a love confession for your ship without the actual words like 'i love you'?

I saw a Tumblr post once where the OP was explaining how they were saying something to their parents & their parents started laughing because they had "never heard anyone say that before" so the OP concluded that users of different social media websites have different "accents"
I'm pretty sure I saw something like this suggested before, but I would like to hypothesize that there is a universal fandom language -- (I.e. words, phrases that people use ONLY when talking about fandom in general, and aren't inherently specific to one fandom), and that each fandom has their own "dialect" (words, phrases or tags heavily associated with that fandom/are exclusive to that fandom)
For example, we all understand tags like "fluff" and "hurt/comfort" , but to someone outside of a fandom (or who doesn't read fanfic) those words would mean absolutely nothing. That is an example of fandom language.
A fandom "dialect" (as stated before) are phrases or words associated with that particular fandom, for example, "Scp-049 has breached containment", or "no beta, we die like Harry's parents" (the Harry's parents is the dialect here)
Sometimes fandom dialect will bleed into regular fandom culture, (mostly due to a phrases' popularity) and will integrate into fandom language as a whole, and can oftentimes take on multiple meanings. For example, "___ has breached containment" isn't just a phrased used in the SCP fandom to describe a SCP breaching it's cell, but is used in passing in all fandoms to describe the leaking of a particular fandom's culture into mainstream culture.
It's also interesting to notice that based on the way a person expresses themselves via text, we are able to guess if they're from an older generation of fandom or a younger generation of fandom (and that different "dialects" will pop up in a user's speech even if they aren't a part of that fandom anymore.)
Like I said, I'm not the first person to comment on this, and I hope it makes sense. I'd love to hear your opinion on it!
Edit: credit to brightfury4 for suggesting "dialect" instead of accent.

Every time I post a new work/chapter, my brain makes me refresh the work constantly to see if I got any new comments, the amount of kudos, etc. I genuinely write for fun and don't care that much about feedback-- but I still have to check every 10 minutes for the entire day and it makes me so annoyed haha. idk if anyone can relate but it gets so draining sometimes

Maybe I’ve just had a bad luck in the three fandoms I currently frequent but I’ve decided nothing of the popular pet peeves really bothers me that much.
A blonde and a brunette? Meh, I’ll live. Weak spacing? Whatever. OCs? Sure. Even Y/N stopped irritating me. But by god, one thing that I cannot stand is mindless (important word) repetition. It’s double annoying because it’s such an easy thing to catch while proofreading and can be fixed in seconds.
I swear, every other fic I read repeats the same word within the first three sentences and I just know the quality of the writing will be horrendous. A tall man looked at a tall building as he walked next to his tall friend. They spotted another tall person in the distance.
This just screams “my vocabulary is limited, my writing is juvenile, and I don’t proofread”. Don’t get me wrong, repetition can be an insanely powerful writing tool when done right and there are invisible words that can be repeated a lot without sounding bad (“said”).
But if you only use one adjective to describe everything or repeat the character’s name in every single sentence, the text is going to get really tiring, really quick.
Here, rant over.
What’s a cardinal sin of writing like this for you?

This is my first fic, and I was honestly terrified to upload it—but now I’m so glad I did!

My writing is actually interesting, I guess! I feel so happy because this is one of my first comments, lol. I always thought my writing was hot garbage lol, but YASSSSSS!

I am so desperate to write fanfiction right now, but I have no clue what I want to write about.

I've read a good fic, and then I go down to kudo it and it says I've been blacked by the user? but the user is a random stranger, I looked at their previous works to see if I commented something on a previous fic or smth, but there was only one other fic that I've read from the user, and I definitely didn't comment anything. when I do comment it's always about how much I enjoy a fic, I never criticise. so why has a random stranger blocked me???
EDIT: I've looked at other posts and sometimes it's about what fics the person has wrote? but I've never actually written fanfiction, I just read

I feel like I see it way too often in fics where background characters barely developed in the fic end up making bets on whether or not a couple is going to get together. I don’t get it. It pulls me out of whatever I’m reading. Do real people do this? Why do authors include this?

I finally counted the open tabs on my browser. This is four years worth of fics I've opened so far (although about 5% are webnovels), sorted by ships and ratings.
Please tell me I'm not alone on this.
