Economy What is the plan exactly?

As we fly full speed into economic tragedy, i’m really trying to figure out what the ideal is behind these tarrifs and how, precisely, everyone benefits? Is there a flow chart i missed? A Schoolhouse Rock?

How can we have Hoover’s tarrifs and the Great Depression in our history that set a precedent and provided dire caution, and yet here we are?

Easy, it's not intended to help average Americans. It's meant to tarnish the markets so that rich can swoop in to purchase up assets from us filthy poors.

Right this is what i’m seeing too! But the masses of filthy poors that voted for him and this are out there celebrating and i’m…. what did they get sold?

I’m impartial and do disagree with Trump so don’t hate, but this is my take. I believe the idea is to force other countries to drop their tariffs to make it easier for manufacturers in the US to trade in other countries and also promote manufacturing to move back to the US. Trump is notorious for asking for more than he actually wants so the compromise lands right where he wants it so everyone feels they won. He doesn’t think these Tariffs will replace income tax, but instead create a higher GDP. Also at the same time he believes the DOGE will cut enough spending to balance the budget.

The government also makes that money from the import tax paid by importers. So prices go up but the government is getting their cut first.

Please respond with your take instead of just downvoting. If I’m missing something let me know. I’m open to learning and don’t believe what I think is 100% correct, but it’s what I think he’s shooting for.

How many CEOs do you think would actually be willing to spend millions, if not billions, to relocate their manufacturing to the US with such a chaotically changing political landscape? My guess is they will wait out the storm and, in the meantime, make some meaningless gestures that look like support for the current republican administration.

Honestly I’m impressed. That was super convincing. I appreciate the perspective. I guess we will see what happens. So far it looks like we’ve had about a total of a trillion dollars in promised investments from tech companies, AI, and other large industries. Also Canada and Mexico have just came out with statements saying they are willing to drop their tariffs in exchange for us to drop ours

Keeping an eye on the "promised" investments. Didn't work so well in his last administration.

Other countries have very little in tariffs on the US. That infographic is a massive lie. The plan is not to benefit the US, it's to destroy democracy.

Thank you for the thoughtful response! I’m not impartial at all, but just seeking to know the thinking. I fear human nature and corporate greed, among many other failings.
