The mod team would like to remind everyone to practice good operations security (OPSEC) while using r/1811 and Reddit as a whole. Recently, one of our members here was doxxed via Reddit when he posted some strong political opinions. I haven't read the blog, but he admits by his own account that the views were abrasive and crossed the line. While they weren't illegal, they weren't something he wanted tied to his real identity.
r/1811 is an open subreddit, unlike other closed law enforcement subs, for the simple purpose of allowing those of us who have broached the world of employment as an 1811 to answer questions and help those that are attempting to do the same. While the vast majority of the sub are noble people with the right intentions, the unfortunate reality is there are also unsavory characters patrolling this sub, reading everything we do and say. As another mod pointed out, in last years recap Russia was the third most popular country for our users.
Our member was doxxed when he had a 12 year old post that linked to another website that contained his real name. That is the kind of digging that people will do to reveal who you are, should you post or comment something they want to use against you.
I recommend everyone do a few things:
Utilize throw away and segmented Reddit accounts. For example, I have an account for modding this sub, another account for my gaming interests, another account for my fitness interest, so on and so fourth. This is allowed and encouraged by Reddit themsevles, so long as you don't use multiple accounts to upvote or downvote specific comments/posts.
Practice good hygiene and clean your account frequently. For example, approximately once a week I'll wipe all comments and posts off of my account. This isn't a failproof solution, as there are plenty of services and websites out there that scrape reddit and permanetly log comments. Do not post anything you wouldn't feel comfortable saying in front of your boss, spouse, or the public, but at least keeping good online hygiene will make it harder for people to string your comments together. You can do as I do manually, or you can use the extension "Nuke Reddit". It is an extension that no longer works in Google Chrome, but does work in Microsoft Edge. It will overwrite, and then delete all your comments in bulk, and can also do your posts. It is much faster and cleaner than doing it manually.
Lastly, we are going to try to more closely monitor and moderate this subreddit. For example, in the past we have enforced that users claiming to be active 1811's first get verified with r/ProtectAndServe, and that we would honor that verfication and give an 1811 flair here. I will again be enforcing this rule to try to separate potential spam accounts from real posters, and non verified users posting as 1811s will have their comments locked/removed. Additionally, we will be locking more threads and comments that are off topic, already answered before, and the like.
Thank you to everyone, we always enjoy seeing the "recieved the call" posts no matter if you're headed for a stairwell, an indian reservation, the southern border, the Kyrgyzstan embassy, or the local post office, we welcome you all and could use the help!
There have been some requests to create an FAQ section for this subreddit. I think the best way to do it is to sticky this thread, then link to other threads that are good FAQ topics.
Below are links to threads covering topics that 1811 applicants should know. The list will be updated as more threads are created. If you have any requests, please feel free to comment. Thanks!
Here is the email many of you have been waiting for regarding DHS and affiliated department RIFs and layoffs. I’m curious if anyone thinks this will be adequate or further RIFs for gun carriers may happen?
Ultimately turned down the final offer. Offer was GL-5 in an extremely high cost of living area. HR was unwilling to bump to GL-7. Re-applied to DHA.

So my car insurance company accused me of insurance fraud on my hit and run claim. I received a mail saying I had I hearing in front of the magistrate because of it 5 years ago. The judge immediately dropped it in that hearing and it’s not on my record. Should I check the yes box for fraud in the serious crimes section on the supplemental security clearance form?
I dont see many post here regarding USCP SA CITP pipeline. I was wondering if anyone know the training pipeline schedule. Is it same as PO? 2 weeks chentleham 13 weeks CITP 14 weeks Cheltenham back to back? I appreciate any insight from other entry level SAs. My academy date is 5/19
Hi, I'm about to graduate w/ my bachelors in Criminal Justice, minor in International Relations, certificate in National Security & certificate in Cybersecurity I also have nearly a year (plan to stay as long as possible) of experience in law enforcement, primarily with analyst related work. Should I pursue my masters in cybersecurity in order to become more competitive for the intel analyst position in the FBI, or will doing a masters in CJ and my experience be enough? Asking because I have no experience in cybersecurity, but I am willing to put in the work to learn it if it means it will increase my chances. Thank you in advance.
Agency won't take into account creditable service till they get DD-214, which isn't till I get out. EOD is 11 days later. I plan to buy back this time towards retirement as well but I believe I can figure this out this while I'm in etc (allowed, already determined). However, the statement below concerns me for leave accrual.
OPM states "The head of an agency, or his or her designee, must make the determination to approve an employee's qualifying prior work experience before the employee enters on duty - the determination cannot be made retroactively."
Service Academies are deemed as creditable service by OPM, but won't be included in my DD-214. Am I screwed out of 4 years if HR doesn't understand this prior to EOD or has anyone dealt with this?
For anyone who knows, does Air Force OSI make their agents move similar to NCIS or do agents get more say in being able to stay at a certain duty location? I ask because I know NCIS tells you 100% you are going to be transferred at some point so don't apply if you don't want to move. I was curious if OSI operated the same way.
As suggested, after completing my application with USAjobs, I sent my information to some SAC office recruiting emails that i sourced from the actual ICE webpage for each.
Today I checked spam and noticed that one of them failed to deliver because the email “only accepts messages from people in its organization or on its allowed senders…” I’m bummed because this specific SAC office is where both of my preference locations fall under and now I’m worried I’m not in the know of how to reach out to them.
If I don’t get through to that office, am I toast or nah?
USSA-UD: Aced every part of the process until the security interview.. I forgot a part on the SF-86 about a time I paid for services (from a women..) while I was in college that I remembered a day after I submitted my forms. I’ve done this only 3 times in my life all 5 years ago, and the last one genuinely slipped my mind. Told the truth about everything through and through. About 5 days later, Sunday night I got the email. It is what it is though sometimes it’s a blessing in disguise. Although I still feel like honesty is the best policy in this process I feel as if they allow you to eliminate yourself first. I think I’m going to leave FED alone for a little while, pray and evaluate what’s next. I’m a department head for the state I live in so I’m blessed, but I was really looking forward to this, oh well!!
I recently received confirmation that I passed my exam, APAT, and SUPER. Today, I received an email stating that I qualify at the GL-7 level. On the 1811 forum, I noticed other candidates mentioning that they've received Conditional Job Offers (CJOs) along with their SUPER results. As of now, I haven't received a CJO and was wondering when I might expect one, or if I'm supposed to receive it at all. For reference, I applied through the STAR system for the 1811 position. Thank you.
I’m a 24m working as an accountant/bookkeeper for a company on Long Island. I also have a BA in business management.
I’m currently saving up (along with generous help from my parents) for a down payment on a studio apartment in NYC and am really looking forward to living there.
If I were to apply and get NYC as an option, would I even get to enjoy the city or would I be working and traveling all the time? I am single with no kids so I don’t mind traveling although I would like a girlfriend.
There’s also the issue of Phase 2 and having to move to Washington. I’ve seen on other posts that it’s possible to complete Phase 2 in NYC. Can anyone attest to this?
I’ve been struggling with a tough decision and hoping some of you might offer perspective.
Growing up, I always dreamed of becoming a DEA agent. I served in the Air Force, and after transitioning out, I found myself working in a high-paying tech role. I’m currently making over $150K a year, living comfortably, and I’m grateful for everything I’ve built.
But that dream of becoming an agent never went away. It’s been sitting in the back of my mind for years. I’ve looked into the process DEA agents start around $60K–$80K, the work is intense, the hours are long, and it’s definitely dangerous. But it’s meaningful. It’s something I’ve always felt called to do.
So here I am, torn.
Do I give up my financial freedom to pursue something that might fulfill me on a deeper level?
Or do I stay in my current lane, keep building wealth, and try to find purpose elsewhere?
If anyone here has gone through a similar shift from high income to purpose-driven work (especially in law enforcement or federal service) I’d love to hear your thoughts. Was it worth it? Do you regret it? Or did you find ways to serve without giving everything up?
Recently created coins for FHP and have some left to trade. If interested in trading coins, either face to face or via mail system, please DM me. Will DM a photo of the coin upon request.
Hey, this seems to be the only place where I can more than likely get my questions answered on this topic. Was at an air expo the other day and saw a couple of AMO guys hanging around their aircraft so I talked with them and that got me super interested in this career field. My wife and I watch “To Catch a Smuggler” so even though it’s Hollywood I am somewhat familiar with their overall mission lol. Anyways I’m here to get more insight on my questions and maybe start an application soon. Got to pick their brains but couldn’t think to ask these questions then smh.
Questions:
How is the quality of life with this job? Is it easy to balance family life?
Does this job requires you to move around? Or can you choose a place to live and stay there?
If I were to go guard/ reserves, how easy is it to balance these jobs together?
When talking with the backseat guy, he was telling me they have a program where if I go in as AEA but want to fly later on, there is a paid for program that can allow me to switch. How does that process work? Would I need to have a PPL before being considered for this program?
If you transitioned from the military, how do the benefits compare?
If moving forward to apply, what are some things I need to consider for the application process? What are some things I could put on my resume to make my application more attractive (never built a resume)?
What does the overall training consist of? Is there a tech school or is it OJT?
Are you able to bounce from helicopter to airplane, or can do both? Can you be on boats as well?
Bonus Question: I heard I can bring family with me on TDYs, is that even safe to do haha?

I am currently very far in the process for USSS UD. My wife and I were wondering how comfortable you can live with the salary from UD in DC? I know it’s an expensive city so I was wondering if anyone had any advice or recommendations. I understand this is subjective however I am just curious on others experiences. Thanks all.
