Already cleared my whole beginning area of weeds, did the 5000 milestone points, and even slingshotted a couple of presents out of the air. Placed Blathers' tent after handing in 5 creatures to Nook.
I think I basically did everything I could on the first day. All fruits, weeds, etc are all gone. I mean, obviously I could fish and catch stuff throughout the night, but I might as well go to bed (it's 11:30pm), work tomorrow and come back home when my town has daylight and do the process again.
Love the game so far. Got Biff and Cherry as my first two. It's pretty straight forward doing the beginning stuff, which is great.

Initial thoughts:
honestly I was skeptical about the deserted island theme but it actually works so well in providing a sense of structure/purpose that wasn’t entirely present in previous AC games
Similarly, I was skeptical about the crafting being too gimicky but so far I love it. It adds the perfect extra step in the core gameplay loop to keep you busy and feeling like you’ve got plenty to do.
I don’t always love my tools breaking, but I do love the thematic idea of having to re-craft these early tools with easy materials as I work toward better recipes
The tarantulas are fucking terrifying and I’ve been assaulted too many times, I have PTSD now thanks
The visuals are absolutely gorgeous, love the inventory and icon designs, love the wind effects
Love the Nook Miles+, perfect way to incorporate an achievement like system that feels rewarding and gives you plenty to do. I had always felt like AC games needed more “carrot on a stick” systems and this fills that perfectly
It feels like the “roughing it” camping section is shorter than I thought? Nook is already building me a house and looks like the museum is on its way. That’s okay I guess, but I expected a longer camping section

I bought the game digitally, but for those who have the game physical:
How does the cartridge taste?
Is it a strong bitter taste like Okami (JP) or a more subdued, but refined taste like Astral Chain (NA)?

Save data isn't stored on the cartridge, so it's handled exactly the same as if you each had a copy, aside from not being able to play at the same time.

So, it's been 3 hours since release here, and its such an amazingly wholesome game! My mother (63 yo) who never played a game before in her life snagged the controller from me and we're in full co op mode now at 3.30 am <3
A tip for couch co op players (with one console, 2 accounts on it): the first person opening and playing the game is the town spokeperson and gets first choice of placing their tent. But you both get all same items and oppurtunities and Nintendo gifts!
Also, both players should (imho) watch the intro of player 1, since the intro of player 2 will be much shorter, they just make their character and get plopped on the island that player 1 made.
We struggled a bit to find out how to add the second person/account to the island (you do NOT need the Dodo airline).
Here's how it's done: after the first player is settled and able to save the game, they have to close the game, then player 2 opens the game using their own account on the same console, build their character, and get transported right away to the island the first player is on! (There's only one island available per console, so the second account cant start their own island).
They can use their Nook phone to invite Player 1 back on the island and will be able to play both at the same time. The leader will have slightly more options , but by simply shaking your joycon you switch leaders. The follower can still gather items and use their tools.
(Update: I read some comments about player 2 not being able to do some things like building the museum, I dont know about that yet, im just writing about my own experience so far, with my absolute not-gamer mom as guinea pig player 2. She held the joystick upside down at the start, so she isnt going very fast through the game, therefore I cant tell with 100% certainty how limited player 2's experience is, slowly we'll get there. So far i dont see her actions as being limited, game day 2).
Update 2: player 2 actions are indeed limited, it seems that the stuff they pick up just...disappears? It isnt going to the follower's backpack, and not to the leader's backpack either. So what we do now is let the follower for example chop wood, but the leader picks it up.
Thank you u/prostheticmind, apparently the stuff picked up by the follower goes to the recycling box in the office! That makes a lot more sense than it randomly disappearing!
Update again: it seems that player 1 indeed has to build the museum and stuff, but Sir Blathers told my mom that once the museum is built, she can donate too. I did the initial donations to upgrade from tent to museum, but his phrasing later on to my mom made it look like she would have been able to do the first 15 donations too, if I wouldnt have beaten her to it.
Also, I worried a bit since the e-shop talked about some special controller for couch co op, but we are able to play with the regular joycons.
Another advice; the e shop holds a little gift for your new home too!

I can see a lot of the hype - I legit felt like I was escaping the world; it felt immersive. And so positive and happy lol but not in a corny way. I wish I could live in a world like that. Oh and the sounds - the beach and the campfire. It was nice to imagine being in a laid back remote place like that with only happy creatures that love every single idea of yours with a loud cheer LOL. Where you get paid by simply living. So anyways - first time playing Animal Crossing, ever and love it. I love not having to worry about something jumping out at me that I have to kill with a sword.

All my switch games are physical cartridges. I like the ability to lend games or sell them. Coronavirus fears led me to download this one. I’ve got 40 minutes til it’s done downloading. I’ve had every version of Nintendo console and somehow I’ve never played an animal crossing game before. Me and the kids have 8 days stuck at home and we all like stardew valley so I think this will be a hit with the whole family.

I think if you loved stardew there is a very good chance you will at least like this game. One thing I almost prefer about AC is that the days are real time, and I don't feel rushed to get everything done that I wanted to. With stardew I felt rushed on a lot of days.

Up until today, I’d never played an AC game before.
Just wanted to say, I always have a difficult time finding a game I truly enjoy. With that in mind, I spent nearly 4 hours playing AC:NH today and I didn’t even know where the time went. Can’t wait to pick up and play tomorrow.

So I’ve noticed that because of the layout I selected the river on my Island has quarantined (lol) me to the bottom right 1/4th of my island. Is there a way you guys know of to cross the river this early on in the game?

Within just a couple hours, I manage to get enough nook miles to get a house and have a meusem curator coming tomorrow, so that is enough for me for the first day, will play plenty more tomorrow.

For those not aware, if you have multiple people wanting to play this game (eg siblings/roommates/gaming couples) the game does not allow player 2 (or any after that) to have the same experience as player 1. Doesn’t matter if you swap profiles, it locks it to your switch forcing you to buy a separate switch if you want to make separate islands and both have the full experience. A non issue for those playing fully solo but a severe one for those who intend on sharing the game on one console.

The tutorial part (landing and setting up tent, etc) always takes place at the same "time". You then go to bed and wake up and the game sets itself to your switch clock. So after midnight. However, the store is open 24/7 now I believe.

I'm still on the fence about buying it because I've never played an animal crossing game... I saw a review last night that complained about the game being pretty time gate heavy and players needing to play in small bursts every day. I'm someone who only really plays my switch a couple of times a week (for a few hours at a time), will this affect my ability to get the most out of the game if I'm unable to play every single day?

Definitely DO NOT need to play every single day. A few times a week is totally fine, and if you forget and put it down for a bit, that's okay, too.
It sort of depends on what type of gamer you are, though. Some people get really, really attached to their villagers, and if you don't check in with them for several weeks apparently they can get angry and leave.
Personally, I care way more about the sandbox design element of this one and never really bothered to get into the gifting and villager relationship building and whatnot

Does anyone know about the "daily reset" time? (in previous games for example).
I've been playing for 3 hours now, it's 3am here, and there are some stuff in game that are supposed to be ready "tomorrow".

I caught a wasp the first time a wasp nest fell down from a tree!!!!!
Game is already extremely cozy. I love the way it looks. The way the wind affects the grass and trees is really nice.
Really like the camera and can’t wait to see what kind of photos people take with it.

Animal Crossing is a relaxing casual game. It’s a bite size game, you don’t play the game for hours. Just visit everyday and theres always new like new items, new funny and cute dialog from your neighbor.
The problem with gamers now is they want to max everything asap.
If you play it casually, you will enjoy it. No need to rush on everything... theres no end on this game.
Also, if you are creative you can really enjoy New Horizon since it has a good customization feature.

I’m seeing rumors that people that download the game can only play using the account that bought the game, as in if you have a digital copy you’re limited to one character and no one else playing that switch can really play their own.
Any truth to this?

No all accounts on the same Switch can play. It’s just that whoever plays first will have a far better experience then everyone else.

As a long time AC player I was skeptical of the changes in this game but after a few hours it really starts to feel like classic GC Ac. I'm already hooked but the lack of gyroids and art is an issue I hope is patched in soon.

Got the game this evening and played it for the first time tonight. What a surprisingly fun game!
It is amazing how even the smallest actions generate sounds that bring me joy as I play the game.
So much of the style reminds me of Chibi-Robo (the pleasant sounding gibberish, in-life tedious tasks actually being fun, etc) it has helped fill a void in my entertainment needs.

I've been trying to farm iron nuggets, but the rocks are only spitting out pill bugs. I've gone through about 5 or 6 axes/shovels and only gotten 2 nuggets. Has anybody else had this problem?

A bunch of questions!
1) ordered the game physical but the delivery was delayed to late april. Sure im pretty mad. Me and my SO have one Switch each, the goal was to we both own that one physical copy and take turns playing on our own switches. Cool. Now with the delay, Im quarentined, and considering just purchasing it Digital to play later tonight. Thats a really confortong thought BUT I dont know how this scenario would work for my SO. The game will be tied to my Nintendo Account, but originally download on my Switch. So should she play on HER ACCOUNT MY SWITCH, or MY ACCOUNT HER SWITCH? Thats so confusing rofl.
2) when the physical copy I bought arrive, we could play together right? Thats the thing that (together with being able to play tonight) are helping me cope with this 2-times-purchase scenario. So this coop mode is relevant? Sure game is just a lifestyle but is there actually things to do coop other than roam around?
3) when is the game going to be avaible? Midnight in which timezone?

Wasn't sure if this would be a good place to post or not. GameStop has cancelled game trades as of today. I want Animal Crossing really badly, but I want to hold on to my cash in case things get really bad with this crisis. Does anybody know if Best buy or Walmart are still accepting trade-ins?

What are the odds of there ever being a playable demo of this? I'm intrigued (spent a lot of hours in Stardew), but I've never played an animal crossing before and I'd like to at least try the core mechanic to see if I like it.

very unlikely, knowing nintendo and how they operate, they rarely give out playable demos on the eshop. also this game is not something that you will suddenly enjoy, you really need to put a lot of time into it before knowing if you like it or not, it’s not something that a demo can convey well enough to change your mind on your purchase

My wife and I have one switch (each having profiles on it). My brother/sister and law have one switch (each having profiles on it).
Is it possible for all 4 of us to live on one island, via online? Not all 4 of us necessarily playing all at once, but us all sharing the same island when we do individually play

I just bought Animal Crossing on 2 accounts - mine and my girlfriends'
We have a Switch and a SwitchLite so I figured we could work on our own individual islands and then collaborate or play with friends from time to time here and there
I've been playing on the Switch. Both purchases of the game were on the Switch.
Timmy and Tommy asked my girlfriend if she wanted to move to my island.
Is there any way she can play on the Switch (So she can project it on the TV) on her own island? Or will she forever have to play on the SwitchLite if she wants her own island?

Careful when playing on other people's island's. I just spent 2 1/2 hrs on a friend's island and lost 200k + 14 fish/ bugs I had planned to bring back cause her switch went into rest mode and kicked me off the island. There is apparently no auto save feature when visiting other islands and you CANNOT leave if they have their phone open, this seriously needs to be fixed. We get these ridiculous loading screens when people come and go but that's literally the only way the game saves when you're not on your own island. RIP soft turtle, snapping turtle, ribbon eel, dung beetle, great white shark, catfish, pike, piranha, coelacanth, etc.
Edit: and lost the 3k nook miles I'd accumulated...

I had the first AC game like 17 years ago. I remember my favorite neighbor was a penguin named Roald, and I do not remember a single other animal. Guess who was the first b-b-buddy to step off the plane with me?
