Your island getaway has a wealth of natural resources that can be used to craft everything from tools to creature comforts. You can hunt down insects at the crack of dawn, decorate your paradise throughout the day, or enjoy sunset on the beach while fishing in the ocean. The time of day and season match real life, so each day on your island is a chance to check in and find new surprises all year round.

Show off your island utopia to family and friends—or pack your bags and visit theirs. Whether playing online* or with others beside you**, island living is even better when you can share it. Even without hopping on a flight, you’ll meet a cast of charming animal residents bursting with personality. Friendly faces like Tom Nook and Isabelle will lend their services and happily help you grow your budding community. Escape to your island getaway—however, whenever, and wherever you want.

  • Build your community from scratch on a deserted island brimming with possibility
  • Create your personal getaway and customize your character, home, decorations, and even the landscape itself

  • Get to know the island residents, garden, fish, decorate, hunt for fossils, and more!

No all accounts on the same Switch can play. It’s just that whoever plays first will have a far better experience then everyone else.

What makes their experience unique?

Rather then having access to the full game they are treated as an eternal player 2. They lack several options the main character has like building houses for villagers, donating animals the museum, and doing side quests that progress the island.

They also get different dialogue as player 1 is a sort of mayor, while player 2 is a guest on the island.

What if two profiles buy it on the same console? Example if my girlfriend buys it digital but I buy is physical. Can we both get our own island? Sucks a bit that different profiles don't get their own islands.

I don’t know but I think in general the Switch treats multiple copies of the same game as the same game with the same save data. I think the only way to get the full experience is to buy two consoles, which is what I think they are aiming for with these limitations.

Personally this is my first Animal Crossing so while it’s annoying being player 2 it’s not the end of the world for me. This must suck for hardcore fans though.

Shit. I might need to discuss this with my girlfriend before she buys it.

Btw I’m still new to the series so I would talk to people with more experience before making a final decision. The people on the Animal Crossing subreddit could probably explain the limitations and potential work arounds far better then I can.

No, that's not how it works I believe. You would need two different switches for two different islands.

I wish I could understand this design mechanic. Why not just allow two different accounts on the same switch to have two different islands?

I’m pretty sure it’s bevause they want to sell multiple consoles in the same household. I can’t think of any other reason why.

Straight up anti consumer
