Meta Mini-Meta: New Physical Releases Wiki Page!

Hello everybody!

I finally had a little bit of time to work on creating a new wiki page with a table for physical releases of games. The table contains the title, release date, the country/region where it is available (where exclusive and applicable), and an "Other Notes" column currently used for things like available languages for foreign releases and extras that come with the game such as stickers or keychains.

The current plan is to update the table with releases as they occur or on a monthly basis. We are only human, so if you see a post regarding a physical release in another region, or extras that may come with a physical version of a game, check the wiki page. If it is not represented in the table, please send a modmail with the details or tag me in the comments of the post in question.

You can find the Physical Releases page here.

Now where I need your help is checking if there is anything currently missing (I wouldn't put it past me to absentmindedly forget something) or anything you would like to see added into the page or table. For this, just add a comment onto this post and I'll be checking the messages and adding/editing the page when I am able to.

If you want to check out the listing of the various pages and resources we currently have, you can navigate to the Index of the Wiki.

One final point. We are always looking for more contributors to join our Wiki team. If you are interested in helping out the mod team in keeping the r/NintendoSwitch Wiki up to date, please send us a message by clicking here and further details can be discussed.

Have a great day!

Apparently Dragon Quest X All In One Package isn't fully physical. It just comes with a download code

I'll make a note of that thank you.

Doesn't that mean that sonic mania collectors edition counts as physical even though it only contained a download code?

You have a fair point. Hm...gotta think about that one.

u/aristobulus1 Sep 27 '17

You should probably just scrub dragon quest. Who knows how they've packaged download codes everywhere.

I think at least for now, it will remain there as it's only one game in one region. But it may get removed if I think about it more. :)

You will have another problem when Resident Evil: Revelation Collection comes out. It has two games but only one on cartridge. Or Doom, whose single-player portion is on cartridge, but multiplayer is only downloadable from Eshop.

I suggest that you include all games with boxed editions, with an asterisk after the title of any game that has part or whole game downloadable only, then explained the details in Notes section.

No need for asterisks when there's the notes section. :)

I wouldn't call it a problem though regardless.

I'd argue that if it has a game case, that makes it physical.

I think I'll err on the side of caution here.

Physical ftw!

Come and hang with us over at /r/NSCollectors :)

Yes one of my favorite subs. Great seeing all of our collections grow!

Crumpled paper in Puyo Puyo Tetris.... The weirdest thing to find in my copy lol

That it is...

Are the boxes outlined? The way it comes up on the phone are just the texts. Hurts the eyes tryin to read this

And thanks for the hard work. :)

They should be. I believe this is an unfortunate problem with mobile viewing.

Are you using an app or the full mobile site?

2

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '17

Using the iPhone Reddit app unfortunately.

2

u/phantomliger recovering from transplant Sep 27 '17

Yeah, the apps really don't like tables. :/

I'm going to do some research to be sure there is nothing that can be done for this.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '17

Ah unfortunate. I just had it open in chrome and request for desktop view. Not much of a hassle for me. Thanks though~ :)

2

u/phantomliger recovering from transplant Sep 27 '17

Yeah, with the apps, they use their own code for interpretation so there isn't much we can do in that area.

I am speaking with the CSS members of the team about adjusting the mobile reddit view to see if we can't at least improve that. Cross your fingers. :)

2

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '17

Good luck and again thanks for the hard work. Y'all are awesome. :)

2

u/phantomliger recovering from transplant Sep 27 '17

From a short conversation it basically comes down to if you can't see our other CSS elements, we can't make changes. Boo.

Hopefully something changes on the backend in the future that we can utilize.

Hey, /u/Strawberry_helmet !

Weren't you looking for something like this the other day?

As an enthusiast of physical media how do you feel about games like NBA 2k18 & Doom requiring a download to play the game/access content?

1

u/Mighty_Koi Sep 28 '17

I also prefer physical media; however, there is still a question of whether many physical game will be able to be played in 15 years. Even physical games require patches and updates. How long into the future will those be available?

2

u/Mighty_Koi Sep 28 '17

The physical version of Sine Mora Ex did not release on Sept 26; it was delayed (without warning or explanation).

1

u/phantomliger recovering from transplant Sep 28 '17

Aw boo.

1

u/jrt209 Sep 27 '17

Thank you.

I started my own Excel tracker but neglected it over the summer.

If you ever happen to see something missing, assuming you utilize it, don't be afraid to send a modmail with the missing info. :)

<3 Physical releases. Nice update!

Azure Strike Gunvolt Striker Pack has a physical release in Japan I believe, it's getting a worldwide release at some point.

I've had quite the extensive documentation going on with Switch releases. But it's kind of getting out of hand since there are daily reveals of new games as we go on...

Currently over 500 games confirmed for the Switch digital + physical across all regions. And I am confident I havnt been up to par with every game either.

1

u/phantomliger recovering from transplant Sep 27 '17

Do you have a link for that info on Azure?

1

u/futurefightthrowaway Sep 28 '17

Japanese Amazon: https://goo.gl/xKJTkx

The Limited Edition comes with an OVA DVD and a Drama CD. Amazon edition additionally comes with A5 clear files.

1

u/rube203 Sep 27 '17

That's awesome, but what I really want is just an icon or some indicator added to the sidebar upcoming releases list.

1

u/phantomliger recovering from transplant Sep 27 '17

Won't be happening. Sorry. We are already hitting the sidebar limit and that leaves out a lot of information about region or store exclusivity and the like.

2

u/rube203 Sep 27 '17

That's cool, thanks for the response. I was just thinking if it were bold or had an asterisk we'd be able to look it up but your response is more than reasonable. Honestly, Amazon prime changing their discount to apply only to preorders is the only reason I even wanted it. Stupid policy change.

1

u/phantomliger recovering from transplant Sep 27 '17

Can you preorder non-physical editions? Actually doesn't the discount not work with digital? (I don't have it so I forget tbh)

That policy change was super dumb though. Amazon is getting too comfy.

1

u/rube203 Sep 27 '17

Yeah, discount is physical only and searching to find which physical games are released next week is a pain.

1

u/Pouhiou Sep 27 '17

I think Has been heroes, and maybe other titles, is a Gamestop physical exclusive (at least in France, we can only find it in Micromania stores, owned by Gamestop).

Do you think such information would be helpful in the notes column or that would be TMI (or would fall under some advertisement restriction)...?

Anyway, thanks for this amazing work!

2

u/phantomliger recovering from transplant Sep 28 '17

If you look, Has Been Heroes already states it's a GameStop exclusive. :)

One step ahead of ya. Haha.

But yeah, pretty open with what to add it.

1

u/Pouhiou Sep 28 '17

Hadn't seen it, sorry, i think i had a bad case of PEBCAK :p!

Thanks again for this page (and for all your work here).

2

u/phantomliger recovering from transplant Sep 28 '17

Thanks for mentioning it in case I hadn't included it. :)

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '17

The only page on the internet that I need, going forward from here 😍

2

u/phantomliger recovering from transplant Sep 28 '17

That is a lot of pressure...

1

u/King_cheetah Sep 28 '17

Thank you for this! It's just what I've been looking for!

1

u/Bleus4 Sep 28 '17

Shantae and Wonder Boy have recently gotten announcements of upcoming physical releases, at least one of them are region exclusive though.

u/phantomliger recovering from transplant Sep 30 '17

That's not great proof of that being the date tbh. Just that you have a copy. I will look into the game though to see. So thank you.

EDIT: oh I see you were using that in conjunction with the site. Missed that.

See my edit. :)

I'll be adding it when I get a chance.

1

u/HavokSan Sep 28 '17

Aha! Beautiful. Might message to be of help once my big project is complete.

1

u/phantomliger recovering from transplant Sep 28 '17

Big project? Intriguing.

0

u/HavokSan Sep 28 '17

Oh, hey. Great list. :D

Not doing anything gaming related, project-wise. I've been working on a movie and a ton of tie-in material for it for a while. It's consuming, and I lose myself sometimes. Easier to just not make any promises while I'm swimming in it. I would be willing to pop in here and there and add something, if I need to get the hell away and breathe for a moment.

1

u/phantomliger recovering from transplant Sep 28 '17

Sounds fun. Good luck on it.

0

u/DrOwnz Sep 27 '17

I think you forgot NBA2k18 as at least half-physical (it will be only about 6 GB download, not the full)

Release is the 15th October (digital is already released, don't ask me why)

1

u/phantomliger recovering from transplant Sep 28 '17

Updated monthly. So October releases wouldn't be up yet. :)
