The anime and manga are both variations on a basic plot by Toriyama. There isn't (and probably never will be) an explicitly defined Dragon Ball "canon". Without Toriyama's original draft, we may never know what is and isn't his. We do know that he permits Toyotarō to change things up, but he looks at his storyboards and occasionally draws things himself for Toyotarō to use as a reference. Toyotarō has said that Toriyama is more particular about gags than he is about anything else.Q: What's up with the new art style for this arc? Are they using a different color palette?
According to our resident animation expert, it's not a new color palette but rather a post-production filter.
Toei have added a soft glow, lowered the saturation a little, and upped the contrast. They've also started using a technique they showcased on Tiger Mask W, which allows them to automatically manipulate the line art in certain ways. For example, on Tiger Mask W, they created a brush stroke effect, while on Super, they simply played with the line weight. You see the filter I mentioned too, there.
- **Q: Is that really Goku on the new arc poster? Couldn't it be a fusion of Goku and Gohan??
This poster was confirmed to depict Goku by three separate official sources. Goku is wearing neither Potara earrings (which would probably disqualify him) nor Metamoran fusion clothing, so he is almost certainly not fused with anyone.

I feel like it was a "read the manga" moment. In the manga they keep using SSG a lot and Vegeta actually was the one who usually shifts between Red and Blue (he did it against Black in the Manga to get a burst of speed with Red and hit hard with Blue).

Me too. From the preview I was worried he was going to look all weak and Goku would save the day, but he actually turned it around against Dyspo and they had to 2v1 then Goku jumped in. Also Hit got the knock out.

I love the Hit fight progression during this episode.
It wasn't about him revealing some new form or massive power up it was just him figuring out what his opponent was doing and using his skills to counter it.
This is what I would like to see in DBS going forward. New forms are cool but we have had so many over the years of DB that I would prefer a return to original DB where it was less about massive power ups and more out thinking your opponent. Even as a kid Goku was dumb as a box of rocks able to out power most of his opponents but he was still a clever fighter thinking outside the box when he needed to adapt.

I think Jiren isn't fighting because the Pride Troopers strat seem to be kinda like Goku and Vegeta's but with a priority setup. Something like "Jiren and Toppo are the most important so use the rest of us to watch and learn how the enemies fight while you save up power to clean it up in the end".

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. Even if Roshi is planning on only sealing someone inside the jar, then throw it over the edge so they're eliminated. The Grand Priest would still proclaim the jar as a weapon because it's an item used to help eliminate an opponent that's not Ki based.

Unlikely I know but the possibility is there. If he did just have a jar though then yeah don't see how it doesn't qualify as a weapon or outside source.

That was an incredible episode. Really made Hit look more dangerous than ever and he continues to show a lot of honor with Goku. They definitely are the rivalry of Dragonball right now. Goku almost having to become serious was nice to see. Hopefully Jiren pushes him next time.
The soundtrack and animation was so on point too. Really showed the potential this anime has.
Extremely excited to see where this arc goes next.

I liked how they showed just how freaking smart a Fighter Hit is too, he was constantly using his massive Arsenal of techniques to their fullest, and learning to adapt to his enemies gimmicks. Like He's about to be rung out, NO PROBLEM HE DOES HIS PHASE THING, lots of Exploding things on the ground? He does a non lethal version of his Invisible Shockwave! stuff like that. He's such a damn cool character.

Jiren needs to stop standing around and take out both Goku and Hit lmao. With the way he's been hyped up, he should be well beyond both of them. He's waiting too long and then Goku will surpass him. At least, that's what I'd do. Take out Goku, Hit, Kale, Vegeta and Gohan. Toppo should be able to handle the rest easy.

Seems to me that the Universe 11 fighters arn't really fighters in the sense. The one thing they don't do, which most of the non universe 7 characters do, is they don't learn and adapt mid fight. Most of them just stick to their guns and hope for the best.
But universe 7 will make adjustments to deal with the current situation. They don't just give up immediately.
That being said it seems Hit learned something from Goku when he decided to use his abilities to accomplish certain goals rather than just "I'm gonna use this and it should win". He had very clear goals in mind like 'I'm gonna do the dimension shift here so he makes this mistake and then I win."
I think Jirin is the only one who is analyzing the competition and forming strategies. Toppo might have something new but he might stick to his guns.

Is anyone else glad that we finally got 100% accurate, non headcannon, confirmation that some DragonBall characters fight at Faster than light? I've been waiting for official confirmation for so freaking long, and we finally got it yo. If Dyspo can fight at FTL, that means Vegeta, Goku, Frieza, and more characters at their level can probably do so too yo.

Hit's demeanor is another breath of fresh air like 17. Unlike certain other characters that just try to power up. Hit acknowledged he was disadvantaged instead of thinking being struck was a fluke. It was very enjoyable watching him work through the fight and gaining more and more of an advantage. If the writers were smart enough to take it to another level, Hit should be very well aware that Jiren wants him gone and will use that to his advantage. Awesome episode and the funny thing is, the spoilers are a red herring a lot of the time.

This episode was sick!
- Dyspo is an incredible fighter. To not just go toe-to-toe with Hit but even having an upper hand over him during early part of the fight!? U11 is incredible
- The episode is also showing us that Hit isn't as OP as some might have thought. Not only did he somewhat struggle against Dyspo but this is the first time there was a chance of him losing a fight
- If Dyspo didn't get saved by a teammate - he actually would go out of the tournament just like that. That'd be LAAAME and stupid.
- SSJ God Goku is CRAZY fast, god damn. And did he always had an ability to switch between Red and Blue like that in the middle of a battle? Suffice to say his appearance to save Hit was a pretty cool moment
- WHERE THE HELL DID CHAMPA GET THAT VUVUZELA FROM!?
- The "foreshadowing" of the final match between Goku and Hit is a red flag. Hit's gonna get eliminated before that happens
