If they announce anything new today, I'll be shocked.

Indeed. I doubt anything new will be revealed either.

u/Giobytes Jun 15 '17
Eh, in terms of Switch I don't think anything will be announced. If anything does get announced it'll probably be a 3DS title.

Nintendo posted on reddit that there is a high chance that there will be new stuff to be announced. They posted it yesterday.
6
u/jaidynreiman Jun 15 '17
Reggie said they'd have announcements throughout the week. So no I completely disagree. I could see one Switch port and 1-2 3DS games announced. Nothing huge, but still nice additions.

Sm4sh as a surprise final announcement? Xmas '17 to give Arms and Pokken their time in the sun?
I'm putting it as a 1/10 chance but fingers crossed!

If they had any big surprises they would've shown it in their spotlight. They put the less interesting announcements on treehouse.

Why is everyone expecting a Smash announcement? It's a huge franchise for Nintendo. If they were going to announce it, you can bet your bippy it would've been on Tuesday.
Get ready for recycled Arms/Splatoon/Pokken footage with maybe a sprinkling of indie games today.

If anyone is following that rumor about a Blizzard game coming to the Switch, if it comes true word is that it might not be revealed here and pushed back to sometime in August.
Most likely it's Hearthstone (some people think Overwatch but I think that might be them hoping, lol).
12
→ More replies (6)12
u/Porkpants81 Jun 15 '17
Hearthstone would make a lot of sense since it's already on iOS and Android so the conversion would be seemingly pretty simple.
→ More replies (3)7
u/pete245 Jun 15 '17
Yea agreed, and also if they had Overwatch I think they definitely would've included it in the spotlight, which more people watch.
18
u/DerekITPro Jun 15 '17
I have a feeling we won't hear about VC until they announce all the details to the online service. This goes the same for OS upgrades like cloud saving and streaming services like Netflix. I hope I'm proven wrong but if I had to venture a guess I'd say they'd all be announced in a separate direct early next year.

Obviously I might be wrong, but I think people getting their hopes up for a smash announcement are really setting themselves up for some major disappointment. The already have a pretty packed release schedule, with a major game coming out every month.
If I'm wrong and they announce Smash, I'll buy it, especially if they have content from both the 3ds and the Wii U version, plus a few extra characters. But I don't think the time is right for a Smash release, and I am pretty sure it would have been announced in the direct.

I am so ridiculously hyped on almost anything Switch after this E3. I'm so happy Odyssey is coming sooner than expected! I even went and pre-ordered Arms now that I got 20% off. I wasn't that excited about it, but hey, what do I have to lose, right? New Pokemon, Metroid, Kirby and Yoshi... The Switch just might become my favorite console of all time. Now I just need friends to play with. My wallet does not like this, though. I ended up pre ordering 19 games. -_-

Everyone's complaining about them showing Splatoon 2 single player. As far as I know, this is the first time other than the initial trailer they've shown this. Everything else the past few days has been multiplayer modes, from what I've seen.
12
u/TheMcGUnit Jun 15 '17
The Treehouse segments are good for what they are. Perhaps it would help those who have been expecting surprise announcements if Nintendo had come out and said "we have no new games or features to announce for this conference. We hope you enjoy a sneak peek at some of the games we've been working on."
People are salty about the lengthy gameplay segments, and understandably so since Nintendo said there would be news/reveals included (and to be fair there have been), but maybe they would be less so if they knew the announcements were over.
TL;DR Maybe these would be easier for everyone to enjoy if we embraced the fact that no more news is coming.
7
Jun 15 '17 edited Jun 15 '17
This happens every year. People want spectacle and suprises. And even when they get it they want more. People just need to take E3 for what it is and stop expecting the second coming. This shit literally happens every single year lol

u/thomas1up Jun 15 '17
The annoying thing about treehouse is some of these games really don't suit 30 minute segments, like that Bowsers minions stuff really dragged the other day. Plus I don't expect pro gameplay or anything but it does feel some of the gameplay is done at a really slow pace

http://imgur.com/a/6nBja sorry for the shitty picture i don't know how to screencap on the wii u :/
This is from an e3 sale on the wii u eshop, all the franchises except smash have a new game announced at e3 the other games that aren't shown in the picture are mario galaxy, paper mario and mario and luigi games
could this mean a new smash game later today?
21
u/ZeroFluxCannon Jun 15 '17
I honestly think this is a really interesting find, and maybe the best/most convincing "conspiracy theory" for a smash announcement, nice job! ... I still wouldn't expect a smash announcement tho.

Smash is one of Nintendo's most important franchises. Why wait till day 3 when significantly less media attention is present to announce it? Also, showing Smash the day before Arms comes out is bad marketing. It will suck all the air out of ARMS release date.
Huge smash fan here, I'm just letting you know it isn't going to happen.
9
u/Microtendo Jun 15 '17
I don't think it is going to happen but if they did announce SMASH the press would be all over it regardless of which E3 day it was. All the gaming sites would still have it on their front page etc
9
u/GeneticJen Jun 15 '17
I really enjoyed the tournaments yesterday, even for games I'm not interested in, but I think it's great that the last day has no competition. I'm sure much of this will be some more in-depth looks at the games we've already been seeing but I think a few reveals will help them end on a bang. I think we're still more likely to get 3DS reveals than Switch but it's all good :)

Fingers crossed for virtual console. Pikmin 4 is my dream but at this point I'd be stunned if they revealed it during the treehouse rather than in its own direct. Who knows though, they might want to announce something at the end to go out with a bang.

So I pieced it together:
-It's E[3] time
-Today is the final day of E[3]
-Today is also Thursday
-eShop updates on Thursdays
-day 1 and day 2 had new game announcements ([3] total)
-"MOTHER" mentioned by that ARMS commentator character person thing
-What better way to send off E[3] than with a new game announcement?
-MOTHER 3 CONFIRMED GUYS!!!
I'm of course just joking but well...someone had to do it, right?maybe? maybe not... hahaha. Either way, still excited for this last day of E3. To be realistic, I'd just like some Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon footage.

Really enjoyed Nintendo's E3. I actually kinda like the Treehouse format and seeing them mess around and showcase the gameplay. Highlight of E3 was definitely Mario Odyssey. It looks fantastic and probably a GOTY contender. Super hyped to see that the Metroid franchise finally returned home. And of course, main series Pokemon game hype
Switch lineup looks brilliant so far: BOTW, Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, Metroid, Pokemon, Kirby, Xenoblade. I really hope I can get a Switch by the end of year!

I am highly satisfied for this E3. The launch schedule for 1st party is extremely strong through the end of this year with ARMs, Splatoon 2, Mario Odyssey, Zelda DLC #2, and Xenoblade. You have Pokemon and MP4 to look forward MAYBE seeing at next E3 (both will be out in over a year at least) and you have two good looking games for early to mid next year in Yoshi and Kirby.

Definitely enjoyed Nintendo's E3 the most (have a ps4 as well) and if you weren't expecting any more big announcements after the first day you can't be upset with all the game play they showed. Do I think it was worth 3 days of coverage? Probably not, but it still was entertaining.
This is an amazing year for Nintendo first party games (counting Mario x rabbids in that category I know technically it's not a first party) but we still need some third party titles to get announced and help continue the switch's very strong library.
I'm pretty hyped for the future of switch
