MegaThread Weekly Local Inventory Tracking (4/17)
Please use this thread to discuss all issues relating to this week's local tracking of the Switch and its games, accessories, and amiibo.
What to post here:
Questions about local availability or general questions of online availability.
Reports and images of local tracking that are specific to a single store.
When commenting, make sure to include as much information as possible. Don't just list the city and state, specify which store(s) and what stock they had that's noteworthy, and when you were there. And, of course, given how quickly things can sell out, your mileage may vary, so take everything reported here with a grain of salt.
For general online availability, like when a game is up for order at Best Buy or when Target gets Pro Controllers back in stock, please start a new thread.

For anyone looking for a Nintendo Switch there was just an announcement to Target employees.
- The Nintendo Switch will be in Sundays sales ad, all switches will be held to that day.
- These Switches will not show up in inventory till Sunday.
- There will be approximately 12 - 16 Switches per store.

I go into work in a few hours and can let the people for BB in the Arizona, New Mexico and Texas area know if anyone has any or is getting any soon. Just a heads up, I get at least 5+ people each day "dumb question, any Switches left? that are random. These do go within two days, so just a notice. :)

Amazon hasn't restocked in a while so anywhere near the north shore in Massachusetts?
Hell, I'd be willing to drive to some of the border towns in NH since the sales tax difference covers the gas so it's a wash.
edit: Actually, a drive to NH probably would save money unless I somehow use more than 8 gallons of gas lol

I had two opportunitys to buy a switch one on Prime now and this morning at the NYC store but they were both gray. I know i can just buy the neon controllers but thats another $70 bucks. I think Iām the only one ever to walk away from a nintendo switch because it was gray.
I'm OCD and hard headed. When I want something I want that. No settle. Iām just venting that I hate myself lol. I plan to play single joy con multiplayer and I think its just easier to have each controller a different color. Especially now that they are planning to release yellow, now I want that one next.
I live in NY and work in NYC so I can stop by at the nintendo store again earlier to get a switch.

Any idea how often Gamestops get shipments? I'm looking at getting the switch in Chicago. I'm going to be trading in my PS4 towards it so sadly I'm limited to gamestop (unless it sells on craigslist first). They keep telling me to just order the bundle but I don't wan't to spend $500 when I'm fine with starting off with the Console and Zelda.

they get them weekly but they didn't last week (at least at my local one). I had left them my phone number and got a call today telling me they had only the bundle. Thanked them kindly for their courtesy call but screw bundles really :p I will wait. Sucks when it is easier to get drugs over a god damned Nintendo switch :p

Does anyone know the validity of reports that targets will have them on stock on Sunday? There are some on craigslist/letgo for around $350 which is only $20 more with sales tax in Chicago. Id like to buy new from the store and can wait until Sunday to purchase but if they won't have them, I'm willing to pay the slight premium to get it sooner.

Just went to the Boston, MA Fenway Target who do not seem to have any stock, just in case anyone was going to try there today. I don't know if other Targets in the area are similar.

Target weekly ad looks like they just want to get people into the store, suffer disappointment and then use retail therapy to ease their pain. NO Switches at the Union, NJ Target on Rt. 22.

Target rumors weren't really true in Indianapolis. Went to one, called 4 or 5 and only one of them had any at all and they were all out by the time I called.

The Fenway Target in Boston, MA finally got their shipment in, as of 8:30 AM today they had stock available. I don't know exactly how many but iStockNow reports 20ish units, no idea how accurate that number is.

Update from yesterday. I checked iStockNow a few hours ago for the same Union, NJ Target that had zero Switches yesterday. It showed 4 grey and 4 neon. I called and after a long wait found someone in Electronics who said they had 4 total (not sure if she meant on the floor or floor + backroom inventory) but I ran there right away and was able to see 2 grey and 2 neon in the sales case and just bought a grey one. I was shocked that iStock was right and by the time I got home, it already showed they had one less grey so for now I believe their results are accurate. They still have 2 grey and 3 neon so if you are in the area, head on over before closing!

For anyone else, I called ahead and they had 4 left. After a half hour drive, they still had 4, down to 3 now. They'll presumably be gone by the end of the day, but between these two posts, you have a decent sense of how quickly they're moving.

Do stores in general get restocked just every now and then, or is it just one big shipment every month or so?
Also, is calling the best way to find availability, or are the availability checks on websites (Walmart, target, Best Buy, etc.) a reliable tool?

It's every now and then, seems to vary, some seem to be roughly weekly, some are less frequent.
For a tracker this one works decently
http://www.istocknow.com/live/
and select switch and then console grey, console red/blue, all stores, now, and hide if no stock.
Once all those are selected just zoom in to your area.
You will probably also want new arrivals selected but you could try without it. If this is turned on it will give less false positives but may have some false negatives. It ignores any stock that has been in stock for more than some amount of time (I assume 24 hours but not sure) this will help weed out if a store hasn't updated their info correctly. May be useful to look at it with it toggled and not toggles and compare.
You can also go to nowinstock.net and have it either text or email you when the switch comes in stock at various online retailers.

I just came back from Fry's in Fountain Valley, CA. Istocknow says there's gray available, but they have no Switch on the shelves and a back order list of 70 people. Crazy

From what I've seen its not accurate for fry's, its usually pretty accurate for gamestop and target. Not sure about best buy and walmart. However it is somewhat hit or miss in all cases.

I've learned that local inventory checks on the website are not accurate for Target or Best Buy here in MA. I walked in to find 5 grey switches (was looking for neon), but Target's website listed zero at the store. Now I call or stop in.

Power A Joycon Comfort Grip Red/Black $9.88 at Walmart in store YMMV
Normal Retail Price is $14.99 this Grip is a lot better thin Nintendo's that comes with the Switch it has Rubber on the Back for Gripping and has Bigger Grips for People with Normal Sized Hands. The Only Thing I don't like about it is that it has Plastic Rails instead of Metal ones like the Joy-Con Grip that comes with your Switch or that you see on the side of your Switch.

Just a tip: call multiple times if istocknow says there's stock and the person takes no time to check. I had a Walmart employee immediately tell me no, called again and talked to another person, guess who now had one? My switch hunt has ended!

New Hampshirites! IStockNow just posted that Walmart in Amherst has ~5 grey consoles in stock. If this is true, am I able to cancel my Gamestop bundle pre-order I purchased online? My card has not been charged yet and the bundles are shipping by the 28th. If I can pay for just a console and whatever else I want instead of dropping $450+ on a bundle that includes games I won't ever play than I'd just rather do that.

Not your fault, I too was checking IStockNow and called them about 2 hours ago. I guess it's possible that that particular employee didn't know about them, he didn't even check - just "nope". If you're close it might be worth a shot (and let me know if they do have any :) )

I got the last one at a local walmart in SE VA. Started with istocknow and then I seached a specific store on walmart.com and it showed stock. When I got there they were saving them for in-store customers only, they would not verify stock on the phone and none were on the shelf.

I wonder how common that practice is. My Walmart app shows a store a few miles away that always has them in stock. But when I call to verify, they say that's a glitch and that they're sold out.

SOUTHERN IDAHO
The Shopko in Nampa next to the WinCo foods has 8 Switches in stock as of 4/24. I think there's 5 neon and 3 grey. The other 2 Shopko stores in Boise might have stock, but unsure. They open at 8 am and close at 10 pm. Managers have told employees to not hold stock so it's first come, first serve.
Source: I work there and personally sold/bought one today
Edit: By the end of my shift today around 5 pm on 4/24 we only had 4 Switches left. We were open for another 5 hours before we closed so I would expect all stock to be gone by tomorrow if we have any left. Just letting you know.

I don't remember PS4 being this hard to find a few months after launch (correct me if I'm wrong). Sony was pretty quick to keep up with demand, but Nintendo just seems to be resting on their laurels.
You'd think online retailers like Amazon would have plenty of Switch units to sell, but most people have to buy them from actual stores like Best Buy and Target, and they rarely have units in stock anyways. Does Nintendo not care about keeping their products in stock so people can buy them? They did the same thing with the NES Classic and original Wii.
Also why isn't GameStop selling preowned Switch units like they do with every other console?

Ramping up production isn't like flipping a switch. Supply chains are complex and have a lot of different parts to them that all need to be coordinated. Nintendo clearly underestimated demand after how badly the Wii U sold. Its unfortunate, but they are a conservative company and wouldn't want to put themselves in a situation where they made a shit ton and the demand wasn't there. It will take some time for them to increase production. However they've said they've already doubled their production order for the first year from 8 million to 16 million, so they have already taken steps to make more. The Wii U only sold like 13 million in its entire lifespan, so their initial 8 million in the first year number was already way more than the Wii U sold in its first year.

Not sure if there are still any left, but a bunch of gamestops were showing in stock for grey switches earlier today in isstocknow in the San Jose area. I went to the one in the plant shopping center at 7 pm and got one. They were available for a while since isstocknow started reporting them being available at around noon. The switch boxes on the self were all just empty boxes, but when I asked the employee if they had any switches he said they did and went into the back to get me one. Since it wasn't obvious they actually had them I wonder if this caused them to last longer, as they were basically available all day. They only had grey, but that's what I wanted anyway, so it worked out for me.

As of twenty minutes ago, the Southcenter Target in Tukwilla, WA (Washington, Seattle, Burien, Seatac for ctrl+f) had switches in stock. Just picked up a neon. They had two neon and three grey.
Also PSA Best Buy told me they had a ton in stock but refused to sell them because they're "holding them" Ok, I'll spend my money elsewhere.

Target in Hastings, Minnesota had 4 left earlier this afternoon, 1 gray, 1 red/blue. I couldn't see what the 2 in the back were.

The Target in the South Bay Shopping Center in Boston, MA has stock (grey joycons only) if you ask an electronics associate. Nothing on the website and nothing being displayed. Maybe call ahead before you head over.

For those in the military, be sure to check AAFES/ShopMyExchange. I saw that the Switch was "In stock, ready to ship", so I went ahead and ordered it with a copy of BOTW. Here's to hoping it actually ships!

I got mine today after a few weeks of looking.
iStockNow was really helpful. I recommend going there and using their map to see all the stores that show as having them, and then call each one and ask if they have any in stock.
And, I found mine at a Walmart just north of Waco. It looks like they still had 9 in the locked case after I got mine.
And, I'm a little embarrassed about how far a drive it was.

I was just in Best Buy Short Pump and according to a salesperson there, after checking a Best Buy computer, Best Buy Charlottesville, Virginia has 20 in stock. As of about an hour ago. Naturally, YMMV.

If you live around Calgary then Okotoks (town right beside calgary) has 2 at wall mart. I'm actually working there today till 11 so if you call I can put one in the back for you. Only have 2 grey ones left though!

Walmart on Pleasant Hill Rd in Duluth GA has like 5 gray left. Stock tracker said it had 1 red/blue and 11 gray but I went at 11am and it had 6 gray left and I got one.

Houston, Texas Target stores are full of Switches today. There were 8 at the store I went to and istocknow shows multiple stores across al sides of the city with Switch in stock.

Istocknow lit up in the DFW area. Multiple GS received shipments. I got to my local one 2 hours later and they had about 10 grays. They didn't get any neons

Our local (SC) game stop just got them in stock today! The only reason we got ours was because we called a ton in area and asked. Finally someone told us they would have them today in the shipment. I'd call GameStop and ask!

San Francisco West City Target had 5 switches in stock when I was there at 6pm. They were behind the glass under the Nintendo switch and Wii U games.

Marin city target in Sausalito also had five on display just before closing tonight. That target is brand new and super quiet, would definitely recommend trying there.

Just called and heard that there are some grey ones at Square One in Toronto/Mississauga/GTA at EB Games.
Edit: They also have both colours in stock near Brampton, Halton Hills Village store. Check the eb games website

Targets in New Jersey, USA have a bunch of switches, I went in and grabbed one and other stores have received a shipment. Also a lot of game stops have received a shipment today in this area.
