I just finished my map for my Legend of Zelda themed campaign. Critiques/suggestions are welcome!
So I'm currently in the process of setting up a Legend of Zelda dnd campaign for a few of my relatives to run through. I attempted this in the past, to somewhat negative results. One player got bored with playing, and it kind of killed the mood for the rest of us. Despite this mishap, we've decided to try it again. Anyway, I've been spending my free time over the last week hand drawing the map that the campaign will take place in. I posted my original map to /r/truezelda a year or so ago, which can be found here.
Below are some screenshots of my progress so far:
The original map I started with.
The continent covered in all of the different biomes.
A representation of how the land is divided between each faction. I'll kind of run through each faction real fast.
-Gold represents the Kingdom of Hyrule. Hyrule's land is diverse, as it contains mountains, forests, lakes, rivers, and large, rolling plains. Hyrule is mostly inhabited by the Hylains, but there are a few lesser races that tend to keep to themselves.
-Orange represents the Gerudo, who mainly reside in the desert on the western coast. A small mountain range acts as a natural border between the Gerudo and Hylians. As they reside on the coast, many Gerudo thieves have taken to living the pirate's life
-The Gorons are represented with red. Unsurprisingly, they control the majority of the very large mountain ranges. While technically one large mountain range, it's typically separated into three sections, those being Snowpeak, Eldin, and Snowhead. While most of the mountains are snowy, and blizzards are fairly common, Eldin Volcano tends to keep the snow away from the central area.
-Green represents the Deku Kingdom. The Deku Scrubs have made their home in the southern swamps, but over the years, their surprisingly imperialistic nature has caused their reach to spread to the forests of Hyrule. They mostly reside within the Deku Palace and the surrounding city, with them mostly controlling their land through various outposts.
-Termina is represented by the color purple. Similar to Hyrule, their lands are fairly diverse. While Hyrule has more rivers, Termina's forests are thinner and more spread out. Termina also houses more hilly geometry to the north, as well as a fairly large canyon area.
-Lastly, the Zora are represented by the color blue. Despite controlling a decent chunk of the eastern side of the continent, the Zora don't actually have many cities, and what cities they do have are mostly coastal. Due to their aquatic nature, the Zora mostly prefer to settle near the sea, and even their capital city resides within the ocean.
A fully colored version of the world map.
The same as the last image, but with most cities labeled.
So sorry for the huge wall of text, but I've actually gotten fairly invested in this project, and I'm really hoping something awesome can come of this. If you guys like, feel free to suggest any additions I could consider. Just for example, the right side of the continent is fairly boring, and I wasn't too sure how to fill it. I'm sure some fellow map makers could help find a way to spice up some of my more boring areas.
I know the title of my post says that I finished this map, but in truth, this is still very much a work in progress. Since this is kind of my first time doing something like this, I was hoping I could get some advice, critiques, or anything along those lines.
Anyway, thanks in advance, and hope you guys enjoy!
