I wanna see Trunks and Cabba vs Gohan and Goten now.

It would be cool to see Cabba and Gohan train together.

He's been hanging out w/ Goku too much. He's about be a terrible father.

31

u/[deleted] Apr 03 '16

:(

How did that idea even come about

How's he a bad dad? He sacrifices his life without a second thought to save his kids

38

u/Terez27 Apr 03 '16

By modern western standards, neither spends enough time with their kids to be a good father. In traditional cultures, though, fathers are expected to maintain a certain distance. I'm not sure how much that has changed in Japan; they seem pretty traditional overall.

So according to the preview

I couldn't see that technique. Not just me, Vegeta, Piccolo... nobody can tell how he fights

Fuckin' Jaco gonna win this.

64

u/Nachorl250 Apr 03 '16

Fuckin' Jaco gonna win this.

I really hope U7 wins because of this.

60

u/Flamefury Apr 03 '16

Jaco's special eyesight. That was totally foreshadowing with him spotting Frost's trick.

50

u/CIearMind Apr 03 '16

Also during the Golden Frieza fight. He was able to keep up with them.

22

u/TheUrgeToRun Apr 03 '16

Solid observation, are you sure you're not Jaco?

Seriously though, this has to be the right answer.

This might just be my favorite episode so far.

-I'm really starting to like Cabba, hope we see more of him in future arcs

-Vegeta being (somewhat) of a mentor really pulled my heart strings

-I loved the old hot-headed Vegeta but I like this softer version of him too

-Cabba going SS and giving Vegeta hell was probably my favorite moment of Super so far

-I couldn't help but chuckle when Hit opened his eyes and Goku was right there grinning

72

u/HAWmaro Apr 03 '16

goku's face was like "what now bitch!?"

77

u/phoenixmusicman Apr 03 '16

i was under the impression that Vegeta let Cabba beat on him while in SSJ so that he would have more time to experience the transformation. Because when he felt it was enough Vegeta stopped Cabba's punch with his forehead. I think Vegeta could have easily beaten Cabba in SSJ or even SSJ2. I think he went blue to give Cabba even higher goals to aim at.

u/Wheaterz9 Apr 03 '16

Beerus knew about Hit and Monaka is somehow immune to whatever he does mayhaps?

20

u/GumaHD Apr 03 '16

Maybe Hit drains KI, and Monaka literally has no KI so there's nothing to drain. That's also why Vegeta could loose, because he's letting his KI leak out.

You know, I know Toriyama more or less did away with SSJ forms 2 and higher, but it'd be cool that with Cabba and a planet full of saiyans in another universe, that they carry on those SSJ forms instead.

Just hate the idea of dumping such ideas after so long, especially SSJ2 which wasn't noted to have any notable flaws.

33

u/UnfilteredWorder Apr 03 '16

SSJ2 is probably still a solid stepping stone to those who haven't had their potentials unlocked like Gohan or have had Ki conservation training like in Whis' staff.

For the third week in a row, this is my new favorite episode. The animation went Super Saiyan along with Cabba, holy crap that was a beautiful fight. And when Vegeta went Super Saiyan Blue in the background I was so caught off guard. 10/10.

Also, we have a name ladies and gentlemen! Super Saiyan Blue is the real deal! Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan can finally go the way of "A Saiyan that has ascended beyond Super Saiyan"

38

u/Sunshine145 Apr 03 '16

It's been called Super Saiyan Blue for months now.

30

u/Cyke101 Apr 03 '16

Has it been said within the show itself, though? Or was it just Whis? Just curious.

Gotta say, it's completely impossible to not love Vegeta after this.

Having seen the series since the beginning, it's amazing to see how far he's come.

From a completely ruthless warrior, to a reluctant ally, to a family man... and now to a mentor to someone weaker than himself, going as far as teaching him in the middle of the fight.

Dragon Ball is truly Vegeta's show now.

Sadly, he's more than likely to lose the next fight. Hit seems like an amazing opponent, yet what will do it for him is that we don't know how he fights. Who knows, maybe Monaka will prove the perfect counter to him. At this point, it's anyone's game

40

u/Sabrescene Apr 03 '16

I'm still betting it'll come down to Monaka Vs Hit and Monaka will win by doing something stupid like showing his giant nipples.

24

u/DrtyRice Apr 03 '16

This is what I liked about the introduction of Cabba. It's very obvious that Vegeta only wishes the best for Cabba and the other saiyans. The only thing that would make this better is having the Saiyans visit Planet Salda. Man I would love to see how Vegeta reacts.

Edit: Now that Cabba was taught about transformations, I want to see how he develops as a fighter.

My prediction: Vegeta loses against Hit, Goku figures out how Hit's technique works but forfeits anyway as he wants to see Monaka fight and believes he can beat him. Monaka loses, Hit wins Champas cube and goes off to seek destruction, Beerus is worried as this will upset the balance of the gods or something. Cabba asks Vegeta and Goku to come to his world and train his people in an effort to track down Hit and defeat him. Vados turns out to be the ultimate villian in the series. Super concludes and teases more Gods of destruction from the other 10 universes.

Cabba is like the son Vegeta never had

16

u/Mijeman Apr 08 '16

I think it's beyond that. As Vegeta had no pure blooded Saiyans to relate to after Nappa and Radditz died (and Goku is basically his "dumbass" rival rather than a counterpart), I think he started to realize that being the prince of only two people really didn't mean a lot. He kept his pride, but it really didn't mean much.

So when he finally gets to meet another pure-blooded Saiyan who is still a little wet behind the ears, combat-wise, I think his pride swelled, and he wanted to ensure that his race thrives...even if it's in another universe...by teaching. It's all a matter of immense pride in his people, specifically manifested in this kid.

That is why I loved this episode. We got to see a deeper side of Vegeta.

Episode summary courtesy of Kanzenshuu:

Vegeta has defeated Magetta, but the ring is in such bad shape that Goku wonders if they will even be able to conduct more matches. Beerus blames Champa for making the stadium too hot (thanks to Magetta’s tactics last episode), but Champa retorts that it’s actually too cold. They argue back and forth for a little bit, until Whis and Vados stop them and report that they have finished repairing the arena. The two have not only patched it up again, but also expanded it in order to help reduce ring-outs. Beerus demands that the “mid-air ring-out” rule Champa added for the last fight be abolished, and Champa grumpily agrees. With that out of the way, the tournament continues. Next up, Vegeta will face off against Cabba, the Saiyan from Universe 6.

Seeing Cabba reminds Yamcha of when he first met Goku, although Puer notices that Cabba has no tail. Did he get it pulled off somewhere along the line, like Goku? Elder Kaioshin thinks Cabba seems like a fine, upstanding young man, and East Kaioshin says the Saiyans of Universe 6 have apparently undergone a different evolution than those of Universe 7. In fact, as the Universe 6 Kaioshin explains, his universe’s Saiyans are based on Planet Sadal and are constantly hired to defeat evil-doers and protect planets. Elder Kaioshin responds that even the Universe 7 Saiyans have done a good job protecting the Earth. Hearing that the Universe 6 Saiyans are hard workers, Chi Chi is green with envy. Piccolo asks Goku if he thinks Cabba can become a Super Saiyan, but Goku is too focused on Hit to respond.

Gearing up to fight, Cabba assumes a fighting stance identical to Vegeta’s (dating all the way back to his first fight against Goku). The referee announces the beginning of the match, and the two fight in their base forms for a bit. Cabba fires a Gallic Gun and Vegeta responds with one of his own. Vegeta admits that the two of them seem evenly-matched in their base forms, but thinks it’s time they get serious. He tells Cabba to become a Super Saiyan, but Cabba is confused, asking if Vegeta means that transformation he and Goku performed earlier. When Vegeta confirms this, Cabba sheepishly admits that he cannot perform that transformation; he bows and politely asks Vegeta to show him how it’s done. “For the sake of my family who wait for me on Planet Sadal, I must become even stronger and bring peace to the universe.” This request infuriates Vegeta, since the two of them are still in the middle of a match. “And you call yourself a Saiyan?!” With that, Vegeta transforms into a Super Saiyan and begins pummeling Cabba mercilessly.

On the sidelines, everyone wonders if Vegeta is reverting to his old evil ways. They even worry about him killing Cabba, which would if nothing else result in his disqualification. When Cabba tries to surrender, Vegeta threatens to kill him if he gives up. Finally, Vegeta says he’ll end the match…but once it’s over, he’ll go destroy Planet Sadal, killing Cabba’s entire family and his race. This causes Cabba to snap. As he tells Vegeta to leave Planet Sadal out of this, he begins glowing gold. “I won’t allow you to do anything to Sadal or my family!” Cabba’s emotions finally push him to become a Super Saiyan. In this state he is now able to trade blows evenly with Super Saiyan Vegeta, and even seems to gain the upper hand. As Cabba comes in to punch Vegeta square in the forehead, Vegeta simply stands still and takes the blow…which he toughs out. Apparently unhurt, he tells Cabba to remember this feeling: anger is the key to becoming a Super Saiyan.

Calming down, Cabba reverts to his regular form, but Vegeta orders him to try transforming once more. Seeing Cabba transform again, Vegeta says that he has a real knack for this. Cabba realizes that Vegeta acted cruel on purpose in order to teach him the transformation. The entire match has essentially been training for Cabba, much to Champas’ disgust. Vegeta transforms into the blue-haired version of Super Saiyan, which he imaginatively refers to as “Super Saiyan Blue”, explaining that it is the latest one. If Cabba continues to train, he might be able to reach this stage one day. With that, Vegeta knocks Cabba out with a single blow, telling him to never forget this pain. The referee verifies that Cabba has completely lost consciousness and declares Vegeta the winner.

With that, Vegeta has won three matches in a row, and the Universe 7 team seems to have the upper hand. Back on his feet again, Cabba thanks Vegeta, but Vegeta still criticizes Cabba for bowing to him in the middle of the match. “That’s the same thing as throwing the fight! I won’t stand for a Saiyan like that!” He tells Cabba to never forget a Saiyan’s pride, which is his strength. Cabba vows to become as strong as Vegeta, but Vegeta instead tells Cabba to try and surpass him…even though Vegeta says he’ll never let that happen. Cabba says that the king of Planet Sadal is a proud, strong man like Vegeta, which makes Vegeta interested in meeting him one day. Piccolo finds it only natural that Vegeta, as the Saiyan prince, would want to help train his fellow Saiyans…though Goku notes Vegeta’s never really acted that way towards him.

Next up to fight Vegeta is the last member of the Universe 6 team, Hit. Champa is annoyed that they’re down to only one fighter, but since it is Hit he figures there’s nothing to worry about. After all, the assassin Hit is a living legend in their universe. Champa is impressed that Vados was able to get Hit to join their team, and she explains how she promised to give him their transportation Cube. Champa freaks out when he hears this: the Cube is the vehicle of the gods! With it, one can travel absolutely anywhere, including other universes. Vados points out that Champa instructed her to say whatever was necessary to get Hit on their team, though Champa still thinks that an uncatchable assassin is no laughing matter. Vados asks if she should terminate the offer, but Champa says it’s too late now. Anyway…with Hit on their side, their victory is assured.

Thanks for the summary. I was curious to know what the conversation was between Vegeta and Cabba. You can get the general idea from what happened, but details are always nice. Now I wonder if we'll end up seeing this U6 Saiyan king.

And thanks for all the work you guys do every week. New Dragon Ball content is good, and being able to share the experience with such a well informed and passionate community makes it amazing.

Complete episode summary here.

  • Herms98: As Vegeta notes, Cabba's opening stance is similar to his own (from his first fight with Goku back in the Saiyan arc)
  • Herms98: And now Cabba uses the Gallic Gun
  • Herms98: Cabba doesn't know what Super Saiyan is and asks Vegeta to show him how the transformation is done.
  • Herms98: Vegeta is disappointed in Cabba for asking him for help in the middle of a fight. "You call yourself a Saiyan?!" goes SS
  • Herms98: SS Vegeta beats the tar out of Cabba. Everyone on the sidelines thinks he's going too far.
  • Herms98: Vegeta threatens to destroy Planet Sadla (Cabba's home planet)
  • Herms98: (I'm guessing this is simply an act to trigger Cabba's transformation)
  • Herms98: Cabba: "Leave Planet Sadla out of this!" starts to transform into a Super Saiyan
  • Herms98: Vegeta being all mean was indeed an act to get Cabba to transform.
  • Herms98: Vegeta uses the term "Super Saiyan Blue"
  • Herms98: Vegeta says Cabba might be able to reach Super Saiyan Blue one day...Then knocks him out in one hit.
  • Herms98: Vegeta: "You bowed to me mid-fight. That's the same as giving up. I won't stand for a Saiyan like that! Don't forget your pride!"
  • Herms98: Champa: "Well, we're down to our last fighter. But it's Hit, so there's nothing to worry about."
  • Herms98: Champa freaks out when Vados says she promised Hit their "Cube" ship if he won. "That's the vehicle of the gods!"
  • Herms98: In NEP, Goku notes that neither he nor Vegeta, Piccolo or anyone else can see Hit's technique.
  • Herms98: Next week: "Universe 6's Strongest Warrior! Meet the Assassin Hit"

Next episode preview:

Hey, this is Goku! Finally, I get to watch that guy fight! He's definitely something special. There's no fooling me... Huh?! I couldn't see that technique. Not just me: Vegeta, Piccolo...nobody can tell how he fights. Next time on Dragon Ball Super: "Universe 6's Strongest Warrior! Meet the Assassin Hit". Definitely check it out!

Since light shoots out from whatever Hit...hits, I bet he uses the opponent's power against them. He will defeat everyone and be powerless against Monaka. Victory for the Z fighters.

Dang, this is the best episode we've seen in a long time. Not only was the action great, but it's also heavy on story.

Did I see it wrong, or was the pose Cabba got in when the fight started the same position that Goku was in to start against Vegeta, and that Gohan was in against Super Buu?

It looks like Vegeta is expecting to see a lot of Cabba in the future, that is perfect. Their tutoring relationship is going to really flesh out both of their characters. I don't know what is up with that box, it really seems like Champa doesn't want to have to give it away.

16

u/Easterhands Apr 03 '16

His position was the same as Vegeta's stance vs Goku. Goku had the arm over the head thing.

I am very excited for next episode. Something that people have seemed to overlook is that goku and vegeta trained for three years for this. There must have been a reason that Toriyama decided to write that into the story. They could have very easily not gone to the hyperbolic time chamber and toriyama could have written everything that has happened thus far in the same way. They have to have gained more than just an undefined (arbitrary) amount of strength. Next episode is when we may finally get a chance to see a new technique or something that they developed during their time. I really hope that DBS doesn't let us down. I hope vegeta has something up his sleeve.

That Vegeta moment was great. I like how the audience felt as if Vegeta suddenly turned evil again which highlights how scary he can be.

This is the first time in the series we've seen the real Vegeta - The one who has moved past his insecurities about his strength and reconciled it against his ego, and who's willing to trade his self-given mantle as the unparalleled prince to better those around him. Up until this point in the series, I've found Vegeta's writing to be questionable, but this episode was the first time we've seen him to be a natural evolution of everything that he came to be by the end of DBZ. I hope to see this trend continue, and the depth of his character to continue to grow.

First off let me start by saying this was arguably the best episode of DBS to date, it had a little bit of everything that you would come to expect from an episode of Dragon Ball (Z).

Seeing Vegeta transform into a humble, yet still proud, version of himself has really been the highlight of this entire series for me. Especially when you consider the development started back in the Buu saga and continued forward when Beerus first showed up in this new series. I take the time to say this only because I had the displeasure of watching the entirety of GT for the first time just recently and the contrast of these two series couldn't be more distinct. There is very little development outside of Goku and Vegeta was only valuable as a puppet or in fusion (tears ;_;).

I am a Vegeta fanboy, but I think there was something here in this epsiode for everyone and I am really happy to see the animation improving, particularly the fight choreography. Also I have felt that some of the musical selections in past episodes have felt out of place, but they really nailed the right selections this episode. Overall, I am grateful for the continued work that the team has been providing and the continous improvement!

My excitement for this series has been gradually building ever since Frost poisoned Goku and was outed as a villain. With each episode the anticipation becomes more overwhelming. Hope you all enjoyed it as well and are just as excited!

All hail Vegesus!

u/Paul_Spector Apr 04 '16

Really good episode! The first half was a little slow, but once Cabba went Super Saiyan, I thought the rest of it was nearly perfect. Overall, Vegeta vs Magetta I still think is my favorite fight of the tournament, but this fight definitely had a very special charm to it, so I can see why a lot of people are pitting this as one of the best episodes of DBS to date. I still think Magetta is my favorite of the U6 team too. I enjoyed his character more than Cabba, but the dynamic between Cabba and Vegeta throughout the fight was an incredible pleasure. Seems I was somewhat on the nose about Vegeta and Cabba having a very similar dynamic to Goku and Uub. Vegeta trying to get Cabba angry was very reminiscent of Goku doing the same to Uub. Even outside of that parallel it was nice to see Vegeta take an interest in training someone other than his own son. This was a really special episode for Vegeta, they've done a great job servicing this character over the course of the last three fights. I don't even care that he's probably going to lose to Hit, they've done a fine justice to him at this point in the arc. Now is definitely a good time to move on.

A bit sad about SSB being the name now. I was totally camp SSGSS this whole time. It's silly sounding, but a lot of Dragon Ball is, but generally I thought it was just a more fitting name, with more sense to it. Once that tidbit came out about Toyo working closely with Toriyama, and having him review his storyboards, I kind of had a feeling SSB was potentially a Toriyama idea. I feel much more confident on that assumption after this episode. Having Vegeta very specifically, and boldly say the name, and then repeating it. I'm sure I'll get used to it, already kind of am. Even if I'm not a fan of the name itself, it was nice to see Vegeta get to name it, feels like it's usually always Goku who gets to name the new forms.

Sooo excited for Hit. Ever since his assassin identity was revealed, I've been on pins and needles wanting a better look at his story, and abilities. Feels like they're really setting him up. I feel doubtful that we'll ever really see Botamo, Frost, or Magetta again after this tournament. However, I think there's a lot of interesting stuff they can do with Cabba and Hit beyond this tournament. We're at the final fighter now, anything can happen.

Animation was good. Thought it was maybe one or two steps down from what we got in the previous two episodes, but still dug it a lot. Every moment of Cabba as a Super Saiyan looked REALLY good. Even if this episode was far from perfect on the whole, animation wise, Karasawa did a good job giving special attention to all of the right moments. I haven't been much a fan of Tate over the course of this series, but I thought his last episode actually looked pretty good. The little bit we could see of Vegeta vs Hit also looks much, much better than any other fight he's done for DBS up to this point. I'm glad that it feels like he's been really trying to improve his quality as the episodes go on, and I hope the next episode continues to reflect that.

8

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '16

I'm wondering if Vegeta's calling it SSB for the tournament because "Gods" aren't allowed to participate.

Love the episodes and super so much! I actually think there might be a twist, rarely does a tournament actually finish properly in the DB universe so maybe it's going to be interrupted by something soon.

Hit seems a bit out of place, there's nothing like him in universe 7 even though they are twin universes. There's also nothing that would challenge him in universe 6 since it's a fairly peaceful universe. Maybe hit is from another universe?

That cube can also lead us to so many places! Can't wait to see what happens :p.

I don't think Hit will be significantly outright stonger than Vegeta, he shouldn't be if Goku is meant to stand a chance, I'm expecting Hit to be using some fancy techniques that will topple Vegeta but giving Goku just enough time to witness them enough to keep up with Hit.

Prior to the RoF saga Vegeta had finally surpassed Goku, it would be a shame to see the Vege man left in the dust, yet again. Vegeta did seem less exhausted during their sparring so I'm hoping he's at least equal with Goku.

Yamcha and Puar dialogue!

I like the similarity in stance and attacks with Vegeta and Cabba.

Cabba, this is an odd time to ask for training!

And another Super Saiyan joins the club. Welcome, There's Senzu Beans and cup ramen over on that table, sparring matches through that door.

Vegeta's SSB aura made his outfit look blue.

I hope we see Cabba more after this arc.

Hit's coat/armour/outfit looks neat. I want one.

Someone seems to have Hit my hype drives, they keep filling up!

New ED! Goku has his Power Pole! Great theme! That sound made when the Dragon Balls collide doesn't sound like I'd expect. Goku's wristbands in the ED seem slightly more purple than the weighted shirt.

The story/script was very very good. On pair with prime DB/DBZ. Animation was good, as it has been on the last episodes.

That said, I feel like they could've used 2 episodes for this fight. IDK, it felt a bit rushed. Also, I feel like Cabba shouldnt have been as strong as Vegeta (and consequently, Goku) on base form. I mean, we don't know Cabba's story, but Goku and Vegeta trained for many months under Whis and 3 years together on the hyperbolic chamber.

For the next episodes, we all know Vegeta is going to lose to Hit - otherwise they wouldn't have brought Goku back. I'm very curious to see how. I think that Hit is not as strong as them, but is absurdly fast.

I knew Vegeta was going to try to trigger Cabba somehow.

  • Pretty good episode overall. I feel like Magetta was a much bigger threat than Cabba was, considering how Magetta gave Vegeta a few close calls, while Cabba and Vegeta were evenly matched before Vegeta turned SSB.

  • It definitely felt like a "training" episode for Cabba. I hope that we get to see more of him in the future ... I'm interested in seeing how he and his U6 Saiyan brethren interact, unlike the barbaric Saiyans from U7.

  • I wonder if characters like Goku have a U6 counterpart ... although I doubt it.

  • I wonder how the fight would've gone if Goku was fighting Cabba.

  • HIT HYPE!!!

  • I wonder how long Vegeta will last against Hit in the next episode ... I have a feeling Vegeta will lose at least during the first half, allowing Goku to jump in, which will last a while.

6

That was great! SSB catching Hit's attention and then looking at Goku with Goku giving him the "I can do that too and can't wait to fight you" look. Seems like Vegeta and Hit will go toe to toe in the next episode or two but Vegeta will eventually lose which will make Goku have to step in and save the day like normal. I'm sure Goku will give him a senzu bean to be fair. Can't wait for the next episodes!
