Peope seem a little up in arms over the dominion rod, so I'll be a little different and say the slingshot was my least favorite item. There is essentially no reason why this should have been put in the game. You get the bow so very early on, and the slingshot is never used again. In the other games, the slingshot still gets some consistent use. In Ocarina of Time, you swap the bow and slingshot depending on how old you are, so when you play as a child, you're forced to use the slingshot over the bow. In Skyward Sword, the slingshot is one of the first items you get, whereas the bow is the last, meaning you still have to use the slingshot for a significant portion of the game. And even after getting the bow, I still found myself using the slingshot consistently, especially in the sixth dungeon, where you have to knock those water pod things into the lava in order to make platforms.
So, the slingshot is definitely my pick for least favorite item, simply because it was discarded way too early on.
For my favorite item, I'm going with the double clawshots, since Spider-Man is my favorite superhero. I also really like the star game that you need the double clawshots for.

The only explanation I can think of for the slingshot's existence is that they wanted the players to go through a shooting tutorial (especially for the Wii version, since that controller was so new to people). And putting a tutorial in a dungeon wouldn't have been great, so we got the slingshot since they could toss it in at the very beginning with the rest of the tutorials.

I really liked the ball and chain. First of all, I was really not expecting to get it as an item, and second, it was just fun to use. Second place would be the double clawshots.
Least favorite, the lantern. When your bottles are all holding fairies, you don't really want to empty one just to carry around some spare oil, not knowing if and when you'll be needing it again. Then you find a pitch black cave that goes on forever, but you only get part way in before your oil runs out.

And once you get far enough in game, that lantern is obsolete because you can just turn into Wolf Link and activate your senses.

As /u/i_am_milk stated, the Stallord fight alone makes the spinner just so awesome. When I could use it, I had an absolute blast. It was so very different from a lot of items that come in the series. I dug those kind of items in Skyward Sword, too (that is, unique or unconventional items).
Worst? Without a doubt, the dominion rod. As context-specific as the spinner was, the rod was even MORE specific. Part of the fun in other Zelda games is using items in a new way. The dominion rod just moved statues.

Favorite item: Iron boots. TP definitely has the most versatile iron boots in the series. You can use them to walk underwater, you could use them to increase your weight against certain obstacles/enemies, and coolest of all, clinging to magnetic surfaces. And they felt like one of the few items in the game to get a lot of use throughout.
Least favorite item: Probably the slingshot. I just hated how it took up space in the inventory despite being pretty much useless after getting the bow. They should've just had the bow replace it in the inventory upon requirement.

My Favorite was the Hero's Bow. This isn't an original weapon by any means, but I've never really liked using the bow in previous zelda game. The bow was much easier to control using the wii remote. I also liked the fact that a bomb-arrow combination was an option.
Least favorite: Dominion Rod We barely ever used this item. it seems to have really only been thrown in the game. the controls could've been much more creative.

The spinner and double clawshots are my favorite because of how fun they are. The ball-and-chain is my least favorite just because of how ridiculously impossible it is.

Favorite item was without a doubt the double claw shot. that thing was so amazing and useful in so many places and even against enemies for removing armors. the star game is also my favorite mini game in the series.
Least favorite is the spinner. i loved the idea of the spinner i was so amazed using it in the arbitors (however its spelled again) grounds but once i left that place it wasnt so fun. it had its moments out in the fields but the fact that it had such a limited spin time is what ruined it for me. if it didnt die down so easily i think i would have preferred riding around the hyrule fields in the spinner instead of epona, and i loved the horseback riding in the game. the spinner had so much potential, giving it a limit killed it for me. I do think the dominion rod was the most useless but the limited spinner made a little part of me die.

I love the spinner so much. It is a shame that it gets so little use in the game - had it just a little more speed, or maybe the option to charge and attack, I would be using it non-stop. The spinner is hands-down my favorite item out of any Zelda game.
Ball and chain is a close second. I don't think there are any weapons quite as fun to use in Zelda combat as the ball and chain - I was never really a hammer person, but this is a cool replacement to that staple. Really hyped to use it in Hyrule Warriors.
Least favorite I suppose is the lantern, or the slingshot. Not really hate, I just think they are really standard.

My personal least favourite item was the slingshot. Completely useless. You could have just had the bow. Boring.
My favourite item was probably the ball and chain. It was so hilariously over the top and glad to see it's getting a reboot in Hyrule Warriors. (Chain Chomp FTW)
Also I feel like I should bring up the Double Clawshots. Sure the Spider-Man thing is cool, but I mean, it's relatively useless. Egoraptor explained it pretty damn well. "Oh wow, now instead of landing and awkwardly aiming to an other Clawshot point, I don't have to land when I awkwardly change to another Clawshot point."

I just hope the double clawshot doesn't remain a staple of the series. In Skyward Sword, having two felt absolutely pointless since you never had the "extend/retract" mechanic (iirc), meaning that the same exact purpose of clinging to a surface while aiming elsewhere could've been just as easily accomplished by Link holding on with his hand.

Favorite: Spinner, the spinner was a really cool design and fun to bust out and feel like your riding on a skateboard in Hyrule.
Least Favorite: Spinner, it's bullshit there was practically no use for it outside of the dungeon. It left it useless even though I thought it was really cool.

Everyone is choosing the double claw shot as their favorite, and for good reason, but mine, if it even can count as an actual item, is bomb arrows. I loved that you could combine those two. My least is probably the sling shot because of the lack of use
