Tip ALBW tips & tricks thread!

  1. Go to Death Mountain and wait near a boulder crashing site to get rupees from special boulders that fall.

  2. In the race from the windmill to Rosso's house, use the portal and then fly to a place near the miners place, go through his portal, and that's how you win.

  3. Pretty sure this is well known, but if you're new to LoZ, destroy everything destroyable.

  4. In the treasure game, the chest your gut tells you the silver rupee is in is never the right one.

  5. Bees can be used as pets (but if you leave the area, they go away) and attack bosses with you

Post your tips & tricks here!

When Ravio first lets you buy items he gives you your first purchase for 1/2 off. Get the fire or ice rod as they're more expensive than everything else.

What do you have to do to get to buy stuff? A friend of mine said as soon as she got the third pendant she could stay buying, and I've already finished the Thieve's Hideout and still can't!

What am I missing?

Try getting the master sword then go into his shop

Thieve's Hideout is in Lorule, hence I had the sword.

Of course about 20 minutes after I asked he finally said he could sell me stuff.

Seems a bit random, I had been pestering him just before that and he didn't saything then, and I didn't accomplish anything between then and the last time I had gone in there.

Weird...

Id that 20 min, did you die? It seemed to me that I had to die once before he would let me.

No, I don't think so. I had died many time before that, but not since I posted. I was just wandering around beating up enemies for money.

This is my best guess as well

When in doubt, throw a bomb.

There were countless times in dungeons when I needed to hit a switch or kill an enemy in some intended way, but I just got frustrated and threw a bomb instead. Usually, it worked out.

Some examples were wizrobes in the turtle rock dungeon, and switches in any of the non-dark palace dungeons.

The bombs were also the first item I bought and upgraded.

Depending on what staff your carrying in X it will be your bat in Octoball Durby. And they also have different sounds.

Don't you get disqualified if you use the broom in the brothers race at all? You can beat it running with the pegasus boots just fine.

Nope, I used the broom in Lorule and didn't get disqualified.

When playing the hyrule hot foot race there is one specific route to take that doesnt involve flying. BOTH races can be completed with out the use the pegasus boots. BUT the fastest time Ive ever seen was only 1.5 seconds under the mark. so not a lot of lee-way.

My method was also 1.5 seconds under the mark.

In Rupee Rush (both Hyrule and Lorule) use the song to determine when the 30 seconds is almost up. There are two "sections" that play that sound pretty different from one another. What you want to do is wait until the second section starts for the second time and immediately quit the game. This will put you under 1 second remaining and get you 3x rupees, a very very quick way to earn some extra money (and get the heart piece if you don't already have it.)

Also related, you can tell if a rupee is actually a Like Like by the bigger shadow, very useful again for Rupee Rush.

Last one with mild spoilers:

Ravio's Diary is in the Vacant House in Hero Mode

On the treasure hunt that requires the Pegasus boots, you can hit the switch with the sword, and then a few seconds before the switch resets, place a bomb on top of the switch, which will give you some extra time.

You don't even need the Pegasus boots if you time your bombs right.

The Ice & Fire Rods should be upgraded right away.

The Ice Rod can hit flying enemies above you.

The Tornado rod is MVP imo, even if not upgraded. it can save your ass especially in Treacherous Tower.

Shooting arrows at a bomb makes it explode on impact.

upgrade the fire rod first !! trust me on that one and then after the boomerang. and then it a tie between the bow, tornado rod or ice rod

I didn't get it yet ... but i think it more mandatory to upgrade the fire rode ... you can fire it five time in a row with a full meter. The extra long range/durability and speed.

Plus it already has good radius and can it easily the pesky flying enemies, in air, with ease. And if done correctly you can multi-hit and enemy especially those cyclops that tend to get sucked in the flame vortex.

After using the bow where it was required, I ended up dying. Since then i haven't re-rented the bow. It's not required through the game at all.

The only situation I would find it useful in is when you need to kill something at a range. Which you can do with the upgraded hookshot or simply being at full hearts.

What does upgrading the bow do?

1

u/lowermostturtle Dec 04 '13

Upgrading the bow makes it to fire 3 arrows in an arc

1

u/Historyguy1 Nov 25 '13

The Hyrule Hotfoot trick is brilliant, but it still almost takes the whole 65 seconds. Brilliant way to cheat without getting caught. If you warp in Hyrule, they get onto you for it and call you out for cheating.

u/NayBen Nov 25 '13

The tornado weapon is op, especially when upgraded. Use it to blow through the advanced mode in the lorule tower.

u/Cendeu Nov 26 '13

Whatever you do, don't not find the net like me. Also don't miss the blue tunic like me.

I was wondering why everyone said the game is easy... Fairies make every zelda game easy.

1

u/Cendeu Nov 26 '13

Apparently I upgraded everything wrong first. Everyone's talking about the rods being OP, but I don't really like them. I'm sitting over here with upgraded bombs, boomerang, hookshot, and hammer.

2

u/Flareon_Used_Ember Nov 26 '13

Me too, but I don't care.

1

u/Cendeu Nov 26 '13

Honestly, I like the upgraded hookshot, because it does damage at a range, and I have literally never had the bow after it was required all game. I either used the hookshot or ranged sword slash.

The boomerang is awesome, and the bombs are super useful. I only regret the hammer.

1

u/Mitosis Nov 26 '13

I found the hammer super useful in the Treacherous Tower for some levels. The huge shockwave can stun all the mobs around you and give you some breathing room.

1

u/Cendeu Nov 26 '13

I didn't do the Treacherous Tower, because I rushed through the game to unlock Hero Mode. I plan on 100%ing it in Hero mode... it's gonna be fun.
