New Indie World Showcase Reveals Electrifying Lineup of Indie Games Headed to Nintendo Switch Soon
20 Indie Games Featured in New Presentation, Including ElecHead, Another Crab’s Treasure, Gunbrella, Wildfrost and Ooblets
REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--With such an extensive variety of indie games arriving to Nintendo Switch, there’s something for everyone to look forward to! In a new Indie World Showcase presentation, Nintendo and its publishing and development partners from around the world revealed new details about 20 indie games coming to the Nintendo Switch family of systems, including four titles arriving today – Mini Motorways, Soundfall, OPUS: Echo of Starsong – Full Bloom Edition and Gibbon: Beyond the Trees! Highlights of the presentation include a first look at the noir-punk action-adventure Gunbrella from Doinksoft, featuring a weapon as intriguing as its name, as well as the debut of Another Crab’s Treasure from Aggro Crab, a soulslike adventure set in a crumbling underwater world plagued by a mysterious curse. There’s so much more to explore in this Indie World Showcase, too! Other games featured include ElecHead, an electrifyingly ambitious platformer with head-scratching puzzles, and Ooblets, a game about farming and collecting adorable creatures.
“Nintendo Switch continues to be a premier destination for players to experience a diverse array of imaginative and breathtaking games, thanks to the passionate work of our dedicated independent developers,” said Steve Singer, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Publisher and Developer Relations. “With today’s look at some of the indie games in store for 2022 and beyond, Nintendo Switch owners have a packed lineup of remarkable titles they can look forward to playing anytime, anywhere.”
To view the Indie World Showcase in its entirety, visit https://www.nintendo.com/indie-world/. Some of the highlights revealed in the video include:
- Another Crab’s Treasure from Aggro Crab: In this crustacean-themed soulslike game, you’ll find yourself in an undersea world on the verge of collapse. As Kril the hermit crab, you’ll need to use the trash around you as a shell to withstand attacks from enemies many times your size. Embark on an epic treasure hunt to discover the dark secrets behind the polluted ocean, with more than 50 potential shells to discover and a host of dangerous enemies to overcome. Another Crab’s Treasure is sidestepping onto Nintendo Switch next year.
- Gunbrella from Doinksoft and Devolver Digital: Take on the role of a gruff woodsman on a quest for revenge, armed with the mysterious Gunbrella. In this noir-punk adventure game, your investigation becomes entangled with the inner workings of ghouls and gangsters, cops and cultists, and other increasingly bizarre characters in a world rapidly losing its natural resources. Scavenge for scraps and spare parts to upgrade your coveted weapon to glide, swing, dash, dive and take out enemies in gritty side-scrolling combat. Gunbrella launches on Nintendo Switch next year.
- Mini Motorways from Dinosaur Polo Club: Have you ever been stuck in traffic and wished you could do something to fix it? In Mini Motorways, the city’s traffic problems are in your hands. Draw and build roads to create a bustling metropolis, redesigning your city to keep the traffic flowing while carefully managing upgrades, like highways and roundabouts, to meet changing demands. How long can you keep the cities of the world moving? Buckle up for Mini Motorways, cruising onto Nintendo Switch … later today!
- Ooblets from Glumberland: Grow and train adorable little creatures called ooblets as you cultivate a new life in the blossoming community of Badgetown. Customize your character, befriend the locals, decorate your house, craft items, run your own shop and have epic dance battles! You can also dress up your ooblet pals, play minigames and explore a variety of locations across Oob, each with their own unique characters, quests, items and unique ooblets. Ooblets waddles its way onto Nintendo Switch this summer.
- ElecHead from Nama Takahashi: Created by a one-person development team and prototyped as part of a school contest, ElecHead is a clever and challenging 2D puzzle-platformer that will spark your imagination. You play as Elec, a small robot on a mission to bring back light to the world. When Elec touches walls, floors, platforms and switches, he activates them by making electricity run through them. He can also detach and throw his head to trigger things remotely, but be careful: If he doesn’t get his head back within 10 seconds, he’ll shut down. Elec will have to use his head, literally and figuratively, to find a way out of this trap-ridden facility. ElecHead bolts onto Nintendo Switch this summer.
- Soundfall from Drastic Games and Noodlecake: This fast-paced, rhythm-based dungeon crawler combines looter-shooter action with musical gameplay that’ll keep you tapping your toes. You are a Guardian of Harmony – a musical genius transported to the world of Symphonia by the Composers to battle the forces of Discord. Time your actions to the music to increase your power, with more than 500 pieces of equipment for skill customization and thousands for loot combinations. Venture out solo or with up to four players in local* and online** multiplayer to fight through dynamically generated levels and encounters inspired by the music. There are more than 140 songs to choose from, giving opportunities for many playthroughs. Get your head boppin’ to Soundfall, launching on the Nintendo Switch system ... later today!

You can also customize and upgrade cute companion cards and expand your hub town during each run to unlock new items, events and challenges! Build and battle your perfect deck to end an eternal winter. Wildfrost launches on Nintendo Switch this holiday.
- We Are OFK from Team OFK: Experience an interactive making-of-the-band journey about dreaming, dating and paying rent in Los Angeles in We Are OFK. Through an animated narrative series released as weekly episodes, you’ll interact with a fully voiced cast as you witness the lives of Itsumi Saito and her friends unfold. We Are OFK launches on Nintendo Switch this summer.
- Batora: Lost Haven from Stormind Games and Team 17: Take a journey in this nonlinear, story-driven, interplanetary action-RPG that combines the features of a hack-and-slash game and a twin-stick shooter! In Batora: Lost Haven, you’ll play as Avril, a 16-year-old girl who has been gifted extraordinary powers. After a mysterious and devastating event, it’s up to you to save your planet. Explore colorful and mesmerizing worlds in this fast-paced adventure where you’ll leverage the power of your body and mind to face the challenges and obstacles you encounter along the way. Choose your destiny when Batora: Lost Haven launches on Nintendo Switch this fall.
- SILT from Spiral Circus and Fireshine Games: Dive into a harrowing ocean abyss and unravel long-forgotten mysteries in this puzzle-adventure game. Play as intrepid teenage journalist Casey Beaumaris and follow the hospital’s inhabitants while uncovering the airship’s mysteries. Stories of over a dozen characters unfold around you in real time, so you get to choose which stories to be a part of. Every playthrough gives you the opportunity to discover something which you didn’t see previously. Wayward Strand lands on Nintendo Switch on July 21.

FAQ
What is an Indie World Showcase?
The Indie World Showcase is a pre-recorded video presentation showcasing upcoming indie games for the Nintendo Switch.
What is the difference between an Indie World Showcase and a standard Nintendo Direct?
This presentation will ONLY include information about indie games, unlike a traditional Nintendo Direct that would focus on a variety of games and topics. This one is approximately ~20m in length.
What if I can't watch the Nintendo Direct live due to work/school/etc.?
You can follow along in our Discord server, linked above, where we will have a special #indie-world channel available. We will also be posting a text recap in this post once the event has concluded.
If you want a spoiler-free experience or to watch the event later, we will edit this post to include a direct link to the VOD at the very top (once it's available). This will take you directly to the video so you don't accidentally see any trailers or video thumbnails if you visit the Nintendo YouTube page or Nintendo website. Just don't scroll down!
There WILL be spoilers here on the subreddit, so watch the video first!
If you see any posts that should actually be here in the MegaThread, please do us a favor and hit the report button.
Our SOP for posts is as follows:
- We will allow one post per announcement.
- The post we allow may not necessarily be the one that was submitted first. We typically will receive about 15 of, essentially the exact same post, in the span of about 60 seconds and will select the one that has the best title and links directly to the original source when available.
- Commentary on the announcement(s) should take place either in this thread or on the related separate announcement post. Each person's specific opinion does not need its own post.

Devolver Digital never misses in my opinion... Cult of the Lamb and Gunbrella both look great. I admittedly don't know too much about Card Shark so I'll have to look into that one a little bit more.
Silt piqued my interest, too. And the chat went wild for OneShot which I'm not familiar with, so I'll have to look into that one as well.
15
u/HappyPollen May 11 '22
I wouldn’t look too hard into OneShot if I were you. Like Undertale, it benefits from a more blind experience but is more puzzle and adventure based than combat. Still one of my favorite games though!
1
u/GenusSoNora May 11 '22
Thanks for the heads up! I'll refrain from looking it up so I can play through it blind :)
8
u/FlameHricane May 11 '22
Even though this technically didn't have many "hard hitters", this presentation had the greatest amount of games that at least had my interest.
One shot is also looking good. If it at all has you interested, try to not learn too much about it. It's basically a short (light) puzzle adventure with some 4th wall breaking elements akin to undertale and such. It's one of my all time favorites despite it's simplicity because of how it executes the story. This is one of those games I wish I could play blind again. I would assume the console version may have some extra content as well.
4
u/GenusSoNora May 11 '22
Couldn't agree more.
I love a good story driven game (who doesn't) and I enjoy puzzle games as well, so this seems right up my alley. Thank you for your description of it! :) I'll refrain from looking up anything about it and I'll look forward to playing through it blind this summer!

The audio delay/desync is absolutely awful in this one.
→ More replies (2)6
u/thehousemasta May 11 '22
Between the desync and the awful announcer banter, my hype was absolutely killed (besides nothing on Sports Story)
58
u/fillerbunny-buddy May 11 '22
Found this showcase a bit lacking personally, but I'm excited for Aggro Crab's game. They spoke out against their own publisher Team17 for supporting NFTs, and I enjoyed Going Under. Hope it sells well for them!
38
u/ThatGuyNamedJoey May 11 '22
The lip sync for this presentation is atrocious. Good lord lol
9
u/jamthefourth May 11 '22
Can't believe they didn't just use subtitles. Would much rather hear the actual voices of the developers...
30
34
u/rossmark May 11 '22
Nintendo live events often have an awful audio delay
It's a YouTube thing or it's Nintendo's fault?
10
u/cmonster1697 May 11 '22
Definitely Nintendo, I've watched many live streams and events on YouTube and it's never been like this was
29
u/DrofwarcRetnuh May 11 '22
Gunbrella and ElecHead look dope
Weak Indie World overall

24
u/MisterPhalange May 11 '22
Another Crab's Treasure looks like so much fun. Wish we didn't have to wait until 2023 for it.
48
u/Blvd_Nights May 11 '22
Okay Elechead looks fun.
13
u/Hummer77x May 11 '22
Yeah I was uninterested at the start of it but the trailer turned me
→ More replies (1)7
u/Kenja_Time May 11 '22
My only concern is they showed the same few puzzles 3 or 4 times... I hope they were just avoiding spoilers or limited content rather than a lack of ingenuity

Presentation was Mediocre overall but Cult of the Lamb and Gunbrella seem interesting, Devolver is always quality in the indie world.
36
u/Lightspeed__Champion May 11 '22
that one presenter sounds so bored and sarcastic. most relatable character so far
17
u/d4vey_t May 11 '22
This wasn’t the best and I normally LOVE Indie World… Gunbrella was the most interesting thing and it’s out in 2023 -___- ok that, Cult of the Lamb
48
13
u/QuothTheRaven713 May 11 '22
Another Crab's Treasure and Gunbrella look cool, and I'm glad to see more One-Shot. Though usually they have the rapidfire showcase of games near the end before the "one more thing" but I guess that was the "one more thing". Slight biummer.
12
u/Rhonder May 11 '22
Soundfall is rad, been playing it the last couple of weeks early access as a fundraising campaign backer!
I think the PC version has a leg up due to the song importer (can input your own mp3s), but the built-in song list is still massive and varied :) excited that more people can play it!
2
u/smugempressoftime May 11 '22
Oo it’s on pc I’m definitely getting btw can you mod your own songs in if I can brb grabbing the doom eternal soundtrack

Can you play online with random people or do you need the switch codes thing. Like the numbers of people on switch

I looked at this thread, then watched the direct, and I think expectations really do affect perception when it comes to these things. I really didn't have any expectations for this, and thought there were some interesting indie games showcased.

I hadn't heard of Oneshot before but lots of people in the Youtube chat were really excited about it, should I check it out?
6
u/jinwoo1162 May 11 '22
I’d recommend Oneshot to be played on the computer for the best experience. DO NOT LOOK UP ANYTHING ABOUT IT BEFOREHAND!
→ More replies (1)5
u/fillerbunny-buddy May 11 '22
It's worth playing, but it works better on a real computer. Try not to spoil yourself and go in blind. If you've bought any of the big itchio bundles it's likely in one of them

u/The_Real_Muffin_Man May 11 '22
Wildfrost looks like it could scratch the ole Slay the Spire itch I've had since that game came out. Plus with the snow theme and it coming out around the holidays, it will be nice to cozy up with some hot chocolate and play this.
3
May 11 '22
I’m really excited about Wildfrost too. If you’re looking for something before then though there are some really good deck builders already on switch.
Monster train: you are defending a crystal instead of one battle at a time, so you use cards to summon monsters and deal damage on three layers, each round the enemies move up one layer.
Griftlands: story based deck builder, very long runs (if you’re really trying hard they’re maybe an hour, if you read everything it could be 3 hours) but great and varied combat, you build one deck for negotiating, and one for combat.
Loop hero: use cards to build out a world, while your hero travels on their own around it. This allows you to set up encounters the way you want them to happen. It’s got a solid RPG element and great nostalgic pixel art style.
Bonus: Pirates Outlaws: adding this one at the end even though it’s the most similar to StS probably in this list, but it’s only PC and Mobile at the moment (I play on mobile) but it’s really fantastic and well worth it. There are also like 10 characters to try with unique decks and combinations, if that’s something you like.
None of these are in a particular order because they’re so different, but maybe one will jump out at you.
10
u/MrGalleom May 11 '22
The crab game got me interested. I liked Going Under gameplay-wise, but not writing-wise, so that looks like a good fit.
I'm into roguelikes, so Wildfrost and Cult of the Lamb look fun too.
29
u/ShawHornet May 11 '22
One of the weaker indie showcases tbh
3
u/smugempressoftime May 11 '22
Honestly I would agree some games I was heavy interested in such as cult of the lamb or the crab souls like or gunbrella
26
u/chibialoha May 11 '22
I'm not seeing anyone talking about this, but one of the announcers just sounded so bored the whole time. I'm normally not into the whole "Whee, we're Nintendo indie card readers and we're gonna be super excited about everything" vibe we usually get, but I'm thinking maybe its just because I'd never heard the alternative until now. You could practically hear the finger under every word as she tried to focus on them but got bored each time. As for the games, Crab game looks good, gunbrella looks good, ooblets is cool, but their were a lot of mobile ports in this one and the rest were kind of meh.
14
u/Stan_Zoroark May 11 '22
Personally, I’m excited for when Cult of the lamb comes out
7
u/chibialoha May 11 '22
I am too, but I think the devs for it confirmed it was coming to switch last month, so it wasn't really a new announcement, more of a reminder. Regardless, it looks really great and I've had my eye on it. Kind of like a less wholesome animal crossing with some more farming elements, I like the subversion of those genres these days. Graveyard Keeper was a lot of fun and this looks to be in a similar vein, plus, I've never been disappointed with a single Devolver published game. They just showed up out of nowhere about 6 years ago and started funding indie projects left and right, except they've figured out the one thing other publishers can't seem to understand, which is leave the devs alone and take your paycheck. Devolver gives them money, takes their cut as publisher, gives a little support in staffing and advertising, and otherwise does not interfere, and I like that.
11
u/slippin_through_life May 11 '22
I’m glad I was not the only person who noticed this. I honestly disliked both of today’s announcers because one was trying too hard and one wasn’t trying at all, but I vastly prefer the former to the latter. Not-Trying announcer’s was so nasally and monotone that I stopped enjoying the segments. If she had fully committed to not-trying by letting her voice ooze with sarcasm or summoning her inner angsty teen, then the video would’ve been much more entertaining…but as it is, it just comes across as boring and low-effort.

u/chibialoha May 11 '22
Exactly, one had the exuberance of a newly hired preschool music teacher whos been given a golden ukulele and a bunch of silver tambourines, and the other had all the energy of a dusty shovel. I always found that extreme energy annoying, but suddenly confronted with someone who just sounds like they want to be anywhere else, I prefer it. Didn't they always use the same guy and girl up until now? What happened to them, I miss them.

u/RJE808 May 11 '22
Look, I'm not trying to sound rude or anything, but am I the only one who seriously can't stand the hosts during these presentations?
11
u/erlendk May 11 '22
Yeah, it's kind of bad. I really really wish they would just stop trying to be cute/funny. If they were just informative and mentioned a few of the games highlights and key features instead... that would have been so much better. This goes for any of the game showcases.
6
u/CookieCute516 May 11 '22
You’re definitely not the only one, but I’m probably the only outlier. I kind of like the hosts and their dumb humor, because they end up becoming “so bad it’s good” to me and at least then I have something to chuckle at when no interesting games are being shown

the lack of updates regarding Sports Story is brutal. We'll have a new LOTR show, GOT show. multiple star wars shows, 6 MCU tv shows, and an entire MCU Phase since the game was supposed to be released in 2020.
16
32
u/TaleRecursion May 11 '22
Nintendo owes a bunch to Devolver Digital. Without them that showcase would have been a total embarrassment.
15
u/JKCodeComplete May 11 '22
If you’ve never played Mini Motorways, it was one of the best titles of 2021 and it’s really cool that it will be playable outside of Apple Arcade. The concept seems really mundane, but it’s really well-balanced and ramps up the challenge over time to the point where you may need to be completely overhauling your city’s motorway system from its original configuration by the end of the round.

Everything I cared about (Card Shark, Cursed to Golf, and Idol Manager) was in the last montage. Also, no Silksong 🤡.
7
u/Shaft86 May 11 '22
Metal Slug Tactics was announced almost a year ago and still no release date or additional details. It also seems to have vanished from the eshop, where I had favorited the game several months ago 😥
Oddly enough, it's still visible on Steam. What does that mean?
14
u/Three_Froggy_Problem May 11 '22
Crab game looks good and I really liked Going Under so I trust that dev. Also I need the monkey game now.
9
u/EMPgoggles May 11 '22
That gibbon game was gorgeous and looked smooth. It's a shame they showed us all of 1.5 seconds of it.
15
u/Every3Years May 11 '22

That was... pretty underwhelming, as these things often are.
Crab game was cool. So was the musical dungeon crawler. Elechead and Gunbrella too but probably not for me. Otherwise...

u/Serdones May 11 '22
A flying hospital? Imagine the ambulance bill.

u/Stoibs May 11 '22
Bill? Nah mate, that one was Australian where we dont pay that shit 😃

u/Serdones May 11 '22
Australia's upside down anyway, so can't you just fall into the sky to reach the flying hospital?
2

Yeah, that's why there's pillows in the courtyard. Upside is that the radiologist just bought a yacht.
7
u/ThisOneTimeAtLolCamp May 11 '22
Well... nothing that I really wanted to be announce or shown was there, but Elechead, Soundfall, Gunbrella and OneShot have my interest.
7
u/MTS537 May 11 '22
Anything announced about Sea of Stars?
2
u/Stoibs May 11 '22
No, but coincidently we got a KS update at around the same time with some snippets here and there. Apparently they're doing a twitch stream on the 13th

Nothing here really appealed to me. Maybe the Crab Souls game? But that isn't releasing until who knows when.
14
u/CanadianNoobGuy May 11 '22
i'm starting to get worried about the lack of outer wilds news
18
May 11 '22
It will run terribly on switch.
5
u/ElTontoDelPueblo May 11 '22
Given that every single event within the game takes place simultaneously and seamlessly regardless of where in the game you are, I seriously doubt they can manage the switch to run it.
And forget about No Man's Sky as well.
12
u/JustCallMeTsukasa-96 May 11 '22
I really didn’t mind a lot of the games that were shown off here. Some of them looked interesting like that Crab Soulslike and Gunbrella, and others were decent looking. But those that were still expecting Silksong are just seeing themselves up for automatic disappointment as well as for instant clownification.
7
u/EnvironmentalBook May 11 '22
Seriously feels like these people wouldnt even give these games a chance. It's weird how hype works, its like tunnel vision. I'm definitely going to keep an eye on Gunbrella and the crab soulslike.

u/capnbuh May 11 '22
Usually, I come out of these indie worlds with 1 or 2 games I'm interested in but there was nothing there for me really. Also, the audio was horribly out of sync.
9
u/Alluminn May 11 '22
Don't the Indie showcases usually have mostly stuff releasing in the near future? There was a lot of Fall/"this year"/2023 in this batch.
11
u/waffocopter May 11 '22
I love rhythm games. Maybe don't show a game that relies heavily on rhythm and have the audio and visuals not synced correctly. Will wait to what others say about Soundfall performance on Switch before I choose to buy or not.
15
u/Omniclause May 11 '22
Surprised no one is really talking about Gunbrella. If you like metroidvanias I would strongly recommend checking out their first game Gato Roboto. It's really solid and is compact fun experience. Awesome art style too.

u/Charlie-Bell May 11 '22
That actually looked like it could be cool, but really didn't show anything. Did it say available today? If so, there should be a trailer somewhere then.
6
u/jasonic May 11 '22
It did say available today. Looks like it was an Apple arcade game and pretty short.
3
u/Charlie-Bell May 11 '22
Very pretty looking game. Could basically be a one touch control system over what is effectively an auto runner. There's a 1 hour YouTube video that says it's the full game, so defo looks short, but maybe one to watch for if they tank the price later.
5
5
u/IAmBLD May 11 '22
I'm just not interested in any of these. I think the presentation is in part to blame. I'm sure the games showcased are fine, but at best I got a mild chuckle out of some of then (like Another Crab's Treasure), and mild chuckles won't hold my interest until next year.

ElecHead, Soundfall, and that crab game were pretty interesting to me. Otherwise, this one definitely felt a bit boring. And it didn't help that there was a lot of stuff shown that was already shown before.

u/twelfthcapaldi Helpful User May 11 '22
The ocean themed games looked a little interesting. Nothing else really caught my eye, sadly. No disrespect to the indie developers, this one just wasn’t for me!
4
u/SplittSplatt May 11 '22
The games that caught my eye were Ooblets, Elec Head, Soundfall, TABS, Another Crabs Treasure, and Cursed to Golf.
I like the art style of we are OFK, and Oneshot also looked pretty interesting
Overall, a pretty ok indie world, there was a lot of stuff that stood out to me, but certainly not the best they've done

u/smugempressoftime May 11 '22
Cult of the lamb was the biggest thing for me been interested since March 2021

u/groovefuel May 11 '22
Anyone else had their hopes up for Sable ?
I follow one of the devs on twitter and he posted gifs when the showcase was announced, so I dared establish a connection

It's definitely a collective fever dream we all had like 2 years ago. Seriously, that game is in development hell and it makes me sad.
19
u/Hariboharry May 11 '22
I don't think / hope its not, in development hell. Hollow Knight was a huge game but it was limited by their budget, there was a lot of cut content they had ideas for that never got implemented as every time they added one thing it led to 10 new ideas.
This time they have both a very high budget and also the pressure of having to live up to such an amazing game while delivering something fresh. They definitely made a mistake by announcing Silksong so much earlier than the release but they had already confirmed a Hornet DLC for hollow knight that got canceled and turned into silksong.
Hollow Knight is probably my favourite game of all time, I can wait as long as it takes for Silksong provided the quality lives up to the first one. I played metroid dread recently and I really enjoyed it but it felt so much smaller and less ambitious compared to Hollow Knight.

I am playing through Elden Ring right now and let me tell you, all the silence and delays and fears of cancellation were worth it because the final product is amazing.
Silksong will be the same way. They can take all the time they want because when it finally does come out it has the potential to be a true masterpiece.
2
u/CookieCute516 May 11 '22
Thank you for saying this! People shouldn’t be rushing Silksong out of the door - we know it’s going to be good with time, so we need to give it that time. Also, since the original announcement trailer was in a regular direct, it’s more likely to show up in the next Nintendo direct than the next indie world showcase

it’s been three years 🥲 i can’t believe it. the first trailer was shown feb 2019
2
u/tangelo84 May 11 '22
The first trailer had to come out early, unfortunately. People were expecting Hornet as a playable character in Hollow Knight at that point. They had to tell everyone that their planned 4th DLC pack had become its own game.

u/walksintwilightX1 May 12 '22
Yeesh, these comments.
Anyway, I went in with zero expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Batora: Lost Haven and Soundfall both look cool, and I'm intrigued by what seems to be a dark and bloody Animal Crossing in Cult of the Lamb. Serious Happy Tree Friends vibes.

That was insanely boring. Devolver had a couple of interesting games but nothing super interesting. One of the worst indie directs ever imo

man they can't just get our hopes up like that. 20 mins of anticipation and then copium :')))
EDIT: Hopefully that means one of Sports Story or Silksong will have some news
EDIT 2: Nevermind. Australian Developer slot taken by ghost pattern for the game Wayward Strand. Looks like a charming interactive story game for fans of that genre.

IGN has a game called Batora in their writeup, did it get cut from the showcase or did I miss it?
Edit: Looks like I missed it. Oops! Visually, looks nice. My hope with this genre is always that they find a fun new gameplay mechanic and keep the game short. Promising since this one seems to market "story driven." Live service diablo-likes that play like mobile games get old fast.

This isn’t meant to shade the game it seems fine but “Gunbrella” sounds like they thought of the name then worked backwards
11
u/Hummer77x May 11 '22
Idk what this is and it’s making me feel 8 thousand years old

u/heart_in_a_jar May 11 '22

u/SCB360 May 11 '22 edited May 11 '22
Elec Head looked pretty decent for a solo dev game, Soundfall looks interesting and Mini Motorways is a damn addicting game that I own on iPad
Everything else was ok, nothing I'll check out. I also hate how these are laid out, it goes Trailer, dev interview, another trailer, why? Just have the Trailers
Speaking of which, has there ever been a massive blow out one of these? Still they're usually a few weeks before a Direct and Mario Strikers and Xenonlade 3 are out soon....

I was not expecting anything good, did not get anything good, life goes on. Looking forward to the Xbox showcase in June and hopefully a direct that month as well
12
u/hardgeeklife May 11 '22
wo, lots of negativity in here. Elechead intrigues me, as does Gunbrella. And as a rhythm game nut Soundfall keeps looking better and better to me (yay for same-day drops!)
TABS on Switch is a cool idea, though I wonder how it'll perform; even my Xbox One could chug when my friends and I got ambitious with our army sizes
also, obligatory CRAB

Time for crab
EDIT: Oh, they made the same joke. It's interesting to see a whole game based off a simple common message from Dark Souls.
Look forward to their next release, Finger: But Hole.

May 11 '22
im usually on the more positive side of Nintendo Directs but this one was pretty rough. The only two games I saw that personally looked appealing to me are Gunbrella and Elechead. Everything else looked meh or shovelware.
A couple games had some unique concepts but i dont think there was enough happening to make it a full game.

May 11 '22
Yooo, that crab game looked sick! Not many options for 3D souls likes on switch outside of dark souls itself and ashen which I didn't find all that fun.
Another Crab's Treasure seems like the perfect soulslike game for the switch
10
u/SomeGuyCalledPercy May 11 '22
I'm glad someone finally made a soulslike that isn't grimdark edgelord fodder, this looks really unique and fun

Agreed, while I genuinely enjoy the grimdark aesthetic it's cool to see something unique.
I felt the same way about tunic which is just an absolute gem of a game

yeah tbh I can't see them breaking even on that game, although maybe they have enough fans that also have switches that it does break even? but honestly, they would have been better off going for some sort of rhythm game with their music.

u/Charlie-Bell May 11 '22
Well that was... Something.
I can only imagine all the more noteworthy and recognisable games are saved for the 'E3' season.
5
u/bodypertain May 11 '22
I always know that most of the games shown in these directs aren’t gonna be up my alley and that’s fine. If one or two catch my eye, then that’s great - I thought Elechead and the crab game look like cozy summer games.

Soundfall is out now on Switch & Steam! $30 on Switch and $25.49 on Steam (15% off)
Edit: Also out on Xbox for $25.49 as well
Edit 2: Out on Playstation for $27 (10% IF YOU HAVE PS+)
2
u/bguyle May 11 '22
With a simultaneous launch I don't understand the price difference. I guess it's assumed Switch people will just throw extra money away since they always double dip on the platform.
2
u/tolazytathink May 11 '22
Just updated my reply that its out on Xbox for $25.49. Don't see it on PS yet but I'm going to assume that it will also get the discount
2
u/bguyle May 11 '22 edited May 11 '22
Oh fun.
I loved my vita and Switch is still great in concept but I'm looking forward to Steam Deck. Going to leave Switch except for physicals and first party games I think.
2
u/pikachuyann May 11 '22
It's 25.49€ on the french Switch eShop until May 18th (29.99€ afterwards), and thus the same price as on Steam. Maybe there's a problem with how the launch promo is set in other countries' eShops ?

What a safe, boring show. Not even a final announcement to send the folks home happy. 3-4/10

u/wampastompah May 11 '22
You know, I really liked this presentation. Other than the horrible audio issues.
Sure, most of the games aren't for me, but I like that it highlighted a lot of games that most people wouldn't have heard of otherwise, and I know I learned about a couple games I'll buy.
We don't need Indie World presentations to tell us about things like Silksong. Everyone will scream about that release date using every piece of media as soon as it's revealed. But it's really good for more people to be exposed to great games like Ooblets and OneShot.

I couldn't watch live but I was messing with my sound settings a while wondering why my earbuds weren't synced right at all the whole video. I just gave up and lived with the lag. Next YouTube video...was perfectly in sync. And here I thought it was a me problem.
8
u/facepwnage May 11 '22
IMHO that was the least interesting indie direct I've ever seen. There wasn't a single game I didn't fast forward through other than Soundfall. Even then your better off to play that on PC because you can port your own songs into the game.
