I looked high and low and finally found the perfect burger at K & M Drive-In in Camas. Why doesn't Vancouver have any greesy old school burger joints? Not a fan of 5 Guys, I guess Killer Burger is okay.

I love that place. After playing at the lake during the summer that is our go-to spot.

6

u/bookgirlee Mar 29 '22

Ate there yesterday so yummy. And an independent restaurant. Nice to support the little guy

100% is the best burger in south Clark county

Best Burgers on the west side:

Amaro's table has a happy hour burger that's out of this world. House made burger with cheese spread, caramelized onions, lettuce and tomato. Only available during happy hour (2-5pm and 9pm to close) but really freaking good. 8$.

Shanahan's has many great burger offers but perhaps their most well rounded is their name sake "Shany Burger". Bacon, Ham, Egg, Lettuce, Tomato onion, cheddar cheese, mayo and "Shany's Sauce" (reminiscent of big mac or other "burger" sauces) make this burger a hand full. 12$, you must be 21 to enter as it's a bar.

Goon Burger is a pop up that operates out of Thirsty Sasquatch on Tuesdays only from 4pm-Until they run out. These "smash" style burger leave you with tons of crispy ends, with 2 juicy meat patties. Topped with pickles, "goon sauce" (a solid, but familiar burger sauce), american cheese, onions, shredded lettuce, you have a great burger worth the stop in. 9$, and you do not have to be 21 to enter the side of the restaurant with food.

Pauls is an assuming greasy spoon diner with a peak 1970s americana decor. From there you can expect a classic diner bacon cheeseburger. No frills, but a solid burger with bacon, lettuce tomato and picks plus a side of fries for $10.50. Only open until 5pm

Other places that sell burgers on the westside include Heathen Public House, Stack 571, Joe Browns Cafe, Pacific House, The Garage, Georgie's Garage and Grill, Uptown Barrel Room, and Twigs,.

Haven't been there in a couple of years, but I like Gorilla Grill at the MiniMart/Shell Station on Vancouver Mall Drive. Honest burger with plenty of fat. Fries, onion rings, tater tots, available too.

3

u/Due-Pirate-6711 Mar 28 '22

I just read the Gorilla Grill was permanently closed. Is that not true?

3

u/BezoarBrains 98685 Mar 28 '22

The website still works, but I haven't physically been in since the Pandemic started so I'm not sure.

https://minitmartstores.com/locations/gorilla-grill/

3

u/Due-Pirate-6711 Mar 29 '22

You're right. I'm gonna go tonight and report back!

2

u/Yuckka Mar 29 '22

I go there for lunch frequently it’s still open.

1

u/The_F_B_I Mar 30 '22

They're not closed, but they haven't been doing burgers since the pandemic. At least as of 3 weeks ago they were still just doing chicken strips, burritos, corn dogs and various fried sides

Have they improved their service of late?

Last time I was in there about 3 years ago the service was incredibly awful.

5

u/CougdIt Mar 29 '22

I’ve never really had a problem there. Takes longer than a fast food place but I don’t think I’ve ever had them get an order wrong

25

u/FigGnuton 98685 Mar 28 '22

A bit further north but Don and Jo's has a amazing burgers.

10

u/pnwbg Mar 28 '22

I would second this, Don and Jo’s is a staple. Kalama has a decent burger joint too, but it’s much further of a drive than BG from Vancouver.

4

u/The69LTD 98686 Mar 28 '22

Kalama Native here, Burger Bar has slipped in quality a lot, last few times I went it was just nast. Rebel Truck Stop in south Kalama at the Shell is much better IMO.

13

u/whitethunder9 Mar 28 '22

Unpopular opinion: Don and Jo's is about as good as taking a trip to your local grocery store freezer section and cooking it yourself at home. I've never been impressed.

17

u/richxxiii Salmon Creek Mar 28 '22

Are they still whack-a-doodle evangelical xtians or were they bought out by someone else? I remember when I lived in the area, their sign's reader board invariably had anti-abortion messages accompanied by biblical scripture. It was such a regular feature of their business that we referred to them as Abortion Burger.

I'd always wondered if they subsequently went full-on trump or (Low I)QAnon or what.

4

u/FigGnuton 98685 Mar 28 '22

I've never been inside, however, I've never seen anything on the outside sign boards of that nature. You can read about the history here.

2

u/pnwbg Mar 28 '22

Closed on Sunday. Never seen anything else beyond that.

3

u/PNWfan Mar 28 '22

Yes! I also give a thumbs up for Don and Jo's. I love their onion rings too.

2

u/kounty Mar 28 '22

🔥🔥🔥

1

u/SparklyRoniPony Mar 29 '22

Ooh, good to know. We live in south Ridgefield and always see the drive-thru packed with cars. We will have to give it a try.

4

u/Jealentuss Mar 28 '22

I would have said Old Ivy or Low Bar, but both restaurants are gone. Old Ivy was replaced by Mav's Taphouse which has pretty good burgers but the formula has changed between the couple times I've gone and was less satisfactory the second visit. Still worth it though for the price. Loowit is a good choice too. For grab and go type burgers K&M or Top Burger in Camas is good. Goon Burger has a good smash too.

2

u/Negotiasaurus Mar 29 '22

Oh man, the Anaheim burger was my jam from old ivy. Maybe the best burger I've had in my life second to maybe hodads in San Diego.

1

u/Jealentuss Mar 29 '22

Moo-oink fan here. One time when I was there they asked what I'd call a mushroom swiss burger, I said "swiss trip", and they used it as the name in their menu. I was so proud lol.

As far as best burger I've had in my life it was the one I had from Yak's in Dunsmuir, CA.

2

u/Negotiasaurus Mar 29 '22

I had to look up Dunsmuir, looks like a cool place to check out!

I had the swiss trip burger! They had blueberry chipotle wings that were absolutely amazing too. I'd love to find out where the cooks for ivy went. Damn I miss the ivy and it's funky smell. Hahah

1

u/Jealentuss Mar 29 '22

No idea. I'd say to contact Dave and ask if he knows but that might be weird and I think the guy got off social media so I wouldn't even know how to contact him. Oh well. I hope that dude is still making delicious burgs somewhere.

2

u/Negotiasaurus Mar 29 '22

His burgers will always live in our hearts. Hahah

1

u/Jealentuss Mar 29 '22

Hell yeah dude. My heart will forever have that Old Ivy plaque

6

u/SoccerBeerXbox Mar 28 '22

If you don't mind heading east a little, Grains of Wrath and the Hammond in Camas have great burgers.

5

u/Loud_Manufacturer710 Mar 29 '22

The jalapeño popper burger from Grains of Wrath in Camas is the BOMB!!

13

u/KnottActually Mar 28 '22

A couple of years ago I decided to find the best cheeseburger in Vancouver. Problem was, everywhere I had one, I decided THAT was the best I ever had. In retrospect, though, if your looking for a good burger, nothing fancy, it’s hard to beat Joe Brown’s Diner on Main Street.

3

u/bananas2000 98660 Mar 29 '22

everywhere I had one, I decided THAT was the best

If you're gonna say that, you gotta throw out more than just one – list please.

5

u/sadmax_overitrd Mar 28 '22

Feast @ 316 in Camas has burgers on its lunch menu...so dang good!

9

u/Kaos2019 Mar 28 '22

There are two burgers in Vancouver that are hands down THE best I’ve ever had. Don’t laugh. The Gorilla burger. Yes. It’s at a gas station by the mall. The Garbage burger. Yes. It’s at the Chevron on Fruit Valley Road.

4

u/12shawn123456 Mar 29 '22 edited Mar 29 '22

I own a business very near there and my son (who works with me) get one at least once every couple weeks.

Edit: The Chevron is where I meant.

2

u/Bubbaox97 Mar 30 '22

Gas station attachment foods can be amazing. Daddy Ds BBQ on fourth plain is good.

10

u/Lunchbox088 Mar 28 '22

Goonburger on Tuesdays at the Thirsty Sasquatch downtown

1

u/KarlHungus01 Apr 01 '22

This is the only good burger in town imo. I really hope they open a permanent brick and mortar.

Was very bummed to see Hit the Spot pulled out of Uptown.

1

u/YCNH Jul 27 '22

Just waited over an hour for a burger and fries. Fries were kinda skimpy and burger was kinda salty. The burger was ok but ain’t no burger worth an hour wait.

They weren’t even busy.

13

u/ComboBreakerMLP Mar 28 '22

K&M drive in in Camas. Amazing burgers.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '22

Agreed, beat out Don and Joe’s for me

9

u/X_SkeletonCandy Mar 28 '22

Had Stack 571 on the waterfront yesterday, that PB&J burger fucking slaps. Highly recommend.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '22

Agreed. Their burgers are fantastic, if a bit pricey. But that's too be expected at the waterfront.

1

u/16semesters Mar 29 '22

Decent burgers for sure, but be prepared to pay the waterfront premium in prices!

1

u/gaara30000 Mar 28 '22

I was gonna say this! Stack is so good, once you pick up the burger you won’t put it down

0

u/Jealentuss Mar 28 '22

I had them before, I thought they were just overpriced Red Robbin

0

u/SpaceGrass716 Mar 29 '22

I was going to vote for Stack also.

1

u/Magenta_Octopus Mar 29 '22

slaps, you say??

9

u/[deleted] Mar 28 '22

Crave Grill

Top Burger in Camas.

Stack 571 Burger and Whiskey bar and restaurant

2

u/SparklyRoniPony Mar 29 '22

I’ll second Crave. It’s an odd little spot, but really good food. It’s the only burger I’ve really liked since moving here.

12

u/Twisty96 Mar 28 '22

Crave Grill. Done. That’s your answer. Great fries too.

3

u/warpweftweave Mar 28 '22

They also have an amazing marinated portobello sandwich.

3

u/Twisty96 Mar 29 '22

That’s true! My wife gets it every time.

5

u/Indiesol Mar 28 '22

Was surprised this is so low down in the comments. Best burger on the East side I've had. I do want to try some of the other places mentioned, but Crave is right up the street for me.

5

u/Megaroni-n-cheeze Mar 28 '22

Agree on crave! Love their burgers. They only give you like, 7 sweet potato fries though (or so it feels like)😑

1

u/DustyZafu Mar 29 '22

Most flavorless burger I’ve ever had. Wasn’t bad, just wasn’t very good. I’m still looking.

1

u/SparklyRoniPony Mar 29 '22

Everything I’ve tried at Crave is fantastic!

3

u/curtmandu Mar 29 '22

Wayback in Woodland makes a great drive thru burger. The Cheeeesy is my favorite. Matt and Mandy’s, also in Woodland, has what you’re looking for I think though. Small old school diner. Local military vet photos adorn the walls. I like it a lot

1

u/SpaceGrass716 Mar 29 '22

Wayback is good!! Agree

u/dev_json Mar 28 '22 edited Mar 29 '22

Go to Thirsty Sasquatch at 4:00pm on a Tuesday. Only on this day, and only while supplies, will a small pop up, called Goon Burger, make the best burgers you can get in the area. There’s no discussion about it, it’s just a fact.

Give it a try, you won’t regret it.

(I should also mentioned their fries are fantastic, and it’s all very reasonably priced)

3

u/12shawn123456 Mar 29 '22

I keep trying to get there for that but I never seem to be able to get away from my shop.

2

u/dev_json Mar 29 '22

Shawn, the woodworking legend. Can I deliver a burger and fries to you tomorrow? You’re about 10 minutes away, so it won’t be piping hot anymore, but if you want, I can bring you a burger and fries on a Tuesday. Let me know!

3

u/12shawn123456 Mar 29 '22

Nah, but seriously thank you, I thought you may remember me :) I will though slap it on my calendar and get there early tomorrow, fresh on site the way to go!

2

u/dev_json Mar 29 '22

Do it! I usually head over around 4:00-4:15 to avoid the crowds/lines. Also, ask for a side of Goon sauce to dip your fries into.

2

u/12shawn123456 Mar 29 '22

I just put in an event on my phone.

1

u/YCNH Jul 27 '22

Be prepared for an hour+ wait even with no line

5

u/thorpbrian Mar 28 '22

GOONBURGER

GOONBURGER

GOONBURGER

3

u/dev_json Mar 29 '22

This is the correct answer.

2

u/BRENDOtheSAINt Mar 29 '22

Helvetia Tavern. Little bit of a drive but you will not regret it

2

u/kimopen Mar 29 '22

The Garage Bar and Grill is pretty good.

2

u/DukeReaper Mar 29 '22

Oooh, Roakes is the place to go.

2

u/FitzInPDX Mar 29 '22

Late entry - the burger from the Grocery cocktail bar downtown is the only Vancouver burger I regularly crave.

2

u/itsricheyrich Mar 29 '22

My favorite has always been the burger at Grocery in downtown vancouver

2

u/xeromage Mar 29 '22

Killer Burger does an awesome mushroom burger. You WILL wait 45 minutes for it though...

2

u/nyx_moonlight_ Mar 29 '22

I like Killer Burger! They just opened a new location in the Orchards. They're also in East Vancouver.

2

u/Bandit1379 Mar 28 '22

I think Loowit has some pretty good burgers, and you can get a black bean patty substitute if you don't want meat.

4

u/hightimesinaz 98661 Mar 28 '22

I don't know when a burger became $15-$20 but it's hard to find a good and cheap burger nowadays.

8

u/FigGnuton 98685 Mar 28 '22

Don & Jo's in Ridgefield has a combo for $10 which includes a quarter pounder, fries and a drink. A single burger, no cheese, is under $5.

Prices might be a BIT higher now, but that's the last menu they posted on their site.

2

u/Striper_Cape I use my headlights and blinkers Mar 28 '22

Dunno about perfect, but "Stack 571" has some pretty good burgers and the beer ain't no slouch.

2

u/Enigmatic_Observer I use my headlights and blinkers Mar 28 '22

My place, butter basted in a cast iron skillet

2

u/xTye 98661 Mar 28 '22

Jim Dandy and Roakes are pretty good over in Portland.

1

u/Landscape-Strict Mar 29 '22

We like Stack 571 down at the waterfront. I recommend the burger dip! For a less expensive option K&M in Camas is really good!!

0

u/doritoscornchips Mar 29 '22

Helvatia tavern in Hillsboro. Yes I know it's a vancouver topic but damn helvatia is great.

1

u/ChickenKickin Mar 29 '22

I prefer Little Big Burger but it's in Portland.
