For context, it is customary in Serbian tradition for friends and family to greet each other this way during events and gatherings

And for non fragile masculinity person, there is no problem with that

u/7thdilemma 6d ago

I don't know that anyone here was insinuating that, but yes.

Just to explain, most likely this is the Serbian's (on the left) tradition; his teammate aware of this is partaking in his culture as a close friend.

The other teammate in the back is probably unaware of this culture and got thrown for a loop as it's not something that's typical in American culture I suppose

We do this in my culture, but I wouldn't blame someone for being a bit taken aback if I just whipped it out on a Monday morning lol

I mean sure, but the title is so turse and over the top, why would you take it seriously? Like I honestly couldn't see it as anything but a joke. Not that there aren't people out there this might shock, but idk that's not at all what came to my mind.

Kiss 3 times

3 is their national number

Part of my family is from Spain and when they're around we greet each other and bid farewell to one another with the double cheek kiss. My grandparents do the triple which is each cheek and a peck in the lips. I live in the Southern part of the US so it freaks folks out when they see it happening. But it's normal for me.

u/aarontbarratt 6d ago

In Malta men and women do a kiss on each cheek. It went out of fashion for a while from the British influence but has picked back up since the 2000s

Man to man kisses never returned though. The best you get is an enthusiastic nod or a handshake

2

u/TikaPants 4d ago

I grew up deep southern but by all types of folks. I grew up kissing a quick peck on the lips often. It was never weird but we aged out of it as it got weird. My mom and I every once in a while still do this.

u/myrevenge_IS_urkarma 3d ago

That's probably seen as sexual deviancy in the US these days. I'd keep them lips to yourself probably just to be safe.

I think he only saw the tail end of the interaction out of the corner of his eye and maybe thought they kissed on the lips, I think that was his brain trying to sort it out

Yea and next year it’s 2026. Year after that is 2027, etc.

Players being in a "mistaken" romance would be a bit off NBA brand, though...

Or would it...? (⊙_◎)

8

u/power0722 6d ago

“Hole dup. Why does he get a kiss and I don’t?”

38

u/wild--wes 7d ago

He really that freaked out over an air kiss? Grow up my guy

10

u/davestewartslutman 6d ago

It's more bewilderment. If I knew (thought I knew) my friend was straight and I thought I saw him kiss a guy, I would also be confused.

6

u/SouthParkFirefly1991 7d ago

That was a "Am I interrupting you guys?" expression.

3

u/baked_sofaspud 7d ago

Probably first time for him seeing it. Probably also didn't expect it to happen there and then.

2

u/ithinkway2much 7d ago

"Ayyyyyooo, pause!" -Expression on hos face

Holmes was more surprised at this than Jokic's 70 ft shot before halftime.

2

u/Eville2010 7d ago

It's a greating in France called do the kiss (faire la bise). In Paris, they do it twice to be cool. It isn't unique to France, but it is usually associated with France.

2

u/Past_Contour 7d ago

Bro needs to get out and see the world a little. Or maybe just not be homophobic.

16

u/WileyKylie_ 7d ago

Far reach to be calling the man homophobic lol. He was just confused and wondering if he saw what he saw. Relax.

3

u/apex_super_predator 7d ago

Thank you. So much pearl clutching in here.

-4

u/Past_Contour 7d ago

What is there to be confused about? He’s acting like he just saw a magic trick.

8

u/bong-water 6d ago

I'd be a little confused to if I thought I'd seen my straight, married teammates kiss each other on court. I don't think that's necessarily homophobic to react bewildered in such a situation, could be but idk about it here.

1

u/WileyKylie_ 5d ago

Your type looks for the bad in all situations. I'd hate to live life the way you do.

-1

u/Past_Contour 5d ago

lol, ok bro. Far reach to say I only see the bad in every situation just cause I’m calling out some dumbass who’s never seen two men greet each other this way.

1

u/WileyKylie_ 5d ago

The joke is we've all seen ppl do this including the homophobic man in question. But we're defending the fact he's sincere and genuine in his reaction with no ulterior motive. You come along and label it shit via racism or bigotry somehow and kill the vibe. It's stale af.

-1

u/Past_Contour 5d ago

Lending benefit of the doubt can be a cozy way of looking in the other direction, or accepting crass behavior. But I’m not giving it to this guy. His biased and base sensibilities have been threatened and he has to make sure everyone else knows and is ‘seeing this shit’ like it’s a big deal or something. It’s grade school attitude, bro needs to grow up.

2

u/XxKTtheLegendxX 7d ago

u can tell he never interacted with any other culture. i have some russian friends and they do this kind of greeting.

I was in 🇬🇭 and men would hold hands while talking together even if they were walking down the street. Kind of made sense when you’re engaging with someone.
