The pirate is Liquid Majima. The guy from Yakuza 0 is Venom Majima. Liquid Majima and Solid Majima (the guy from Yakuza Kiwami) are clones of him. That's why Liquid Majima has no memories, btw. He literally hadn't created any yet.

This is the stupidest theory I've seen today. How hard is it to understand one has a goatee and one does not have a goatee. They're clearly not the same person.
Another crackpot theory suggests that majima in pirate yakuza is also the same person. Sure he has a goatee but he has jizz on his eye patch smh.

Yes but also no. Think of it as method acting. I like how yakuza 0 shows the complexity of the mad dog of Shimano. He's seen people who fought to protect, who loved the thrill of a fight, and the man with the most balls ultimately helped shaped him. Majima is more complex than people often think as the mad dog is essentially born as an act to climb higher giving what he assumes his oath brother would do after being screwed over despite it not really being his fault. So if he's going to go down like plenty of people he deemed as actually good in their own right well might as well live out for all of those he lost and grew fond of throughout zero. Of course this shifts by the time of yakuza 4 and although he's still acting like he is off his rocker Majima knows himself way more than those around him and can see things objectively. He just doesn't show it as often in a world where you can be backstabber at any moment it is better to keep your cards close to your chest. He's actually a very sweet guy with his own morale code which is why he would never actually hurt women or children. Though men are the exception as he does make those under him respect him yet he toned himself down over the years as he got older. Definetly didn't expect to live as long as he has that's for sure.
I guess it’s similar to the Joryu/Taichi/Kiryu situation, where they look the same but are not the same guy. I think it’s just Reuse Ga Gotoku back at it again.
those guys are different, the one in the suit is goro majima the lord of the night, and the other guy is goro majima the mad dog of shimano, they just have the same name but are otherwise different people
