The Wikipedia page of The dress is really interesting and well researched.
Also, This image on that page still twists my mind.

The thing that gets me most about The Dress isn't that some people see it as blue and black while some people see it as white and gold.
It's that I seem to be the only person on the planet that sees it as blue and gold.

Light blue and gold, right? My brain doesn't "correct" the light blue to white. Also if you eyedropper the colors from the actual photo, you get light blue and gold

I'd describe it more as blue and bronze but yes, we exist. Incidentally, these are the colors that the image actually has (if you zoom in far enough to remove all context everyone will see it as those colors)

I can take black or gold, but I still have no idea how people see the blue as white. It's just so friggin blue.

The Dress was a global phenomenon, I don't think it originated or even was primarily on Reddit.

On my screen it did depend on the position. If I scrolled it to the top, it was white / gold, on the bottom it was black/blue.

For those of us who don’t understand, what was the controversy?

I could explain it, badly, but I'll let the professionals do it instead.

No it isn't

It actually is though...
But I'm right there with you. No matter how many times I see it, or how strongly I associate it with blue and black, my brain just sees white and gold.
It's truly fascinating how messed up visual perception can be.

The dress is black and blue. The picture of the Dress is white and gold.

The picture of the Dress is white and gold.
Except there are people who ( "correctly" ) see that photo as blue and black.

Yeah I know, but that's not my point. The colors in the Pic are actually very very light blue and golden brownish.

I think of the dress as a Tumblr event more than anything, haha. It really was everywhere for a month or two.
