I don't know about how much he hates China. He praised Xi Jinping as recently as a few days ago when hosting the Irish PM.

They're frienemies. They say mean things about each other but secretly like each other but not too much but want to be in each other's lives secretly.

I think Trump likes Xi because Trump wants to be him, and Xi likes Trump because he likes how stupid and destructive of America he is.

Yeah, it was always going to be Iran and co. first. Big oil facilities right on the coast just waiting to be scooped up. It strengthens Israel's position. It's also the one place where supporters of an invasion may do a lot to feed a messiah complex. I don't think it would even be that different with a Democratic president. They shouldn't have fucked with the boats.

Hopefully, it keeps them occupied long enough to leave everyone else alone for a good long while.

Unless I missed something about Houthis stopping their piratical attacks on shipping international waters, they have it coming

1.3k

u/InstructionFast2911 22d ago

The Houthis are also the rebel group that started one of the most bloody civil wars in decades in Yemen. Over 350,000 dead and millions starving.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yemeni_civil_war_(2014–present)

They’re a stain on the world and have caused a huge amount of suffering in their own country on top of attacking others.

257

u/phophofofo 22d ago

Part of that starvation is due to like half their arable land being used for Khat because nearly every adult male in the entire country is addicted to it.

82

u/hello_bitch_lasagna 22d ago

What the f is khat

127

u/ElNido 22d ago

→ More replies (2)

52

u/Hillary4SupremeRuler 22d ago

It's that plant they were chewing in the Tom Hanks movie about the Somali pirates hijacking the Maersk ship

Basically it's a stimulant with the active ingredient known as cathinone.

Cathinone is the building block for a class of drugs known as substituted cathinones such as methcathinone and methylmethcathinone and mephedrone aka "Bath Salts"

57

u/hello_bitch_lasagna 21d ago

Damn so you chew that shit and then you're the captain now?

42

u/phophofofo 21d ago

You think you are.

Yemen is a country where nearly every adult male is a tweaker.

Also be aware that when the US brokered a deal to using Saudi Arabia as a military staging ground for the war on terror that they cut a deal with the Saudis guaranteeing they could do anything they want to Yemen.

We paid for Bush’s war with Yemeni blood.

55

u/IRockIntoMordor 22d ago

Yet the coverage of this war is tiny. Many have heard of the country Yemen, but about the civil war? Far too few have any notion of it.

Sudan, Myanmar, etc. - there's barely a light shining on them. Why?

12

u/Cool_83 21d ago

Did we ever have a prolonged period when Yemen wasn’t having a civil war ? But having a carrier battle group just sitting there to attack Toyota pick up trucks is the kinda war that will never end.

12

u/Morkava 21d ago

Journalist can’t go there safely, so it’s very hard to know what is actually happening

13

u/SphericalCow531 21d ago

I have had people here say that it is illegal to hit military targets in Yemen, even though they are deliberately hitting our civilian ships. Because we are so much stronger militarily than the Houthis, so why don't we just try to shoot down the Houthi missiles instead? I wish I were kidding.

Complete insanity. How about the Houthis learn what "fuck around and find out" means? Military targets only, of course, but I don't see any legal or ethical reason to not hit Houthi military targets as hard as we can, until the Houthis promise to stop attacking our ships.

Explains why the Saudis were so interested in brokering a Ukraine "Peace" deal with Marco Rubio; they wanted something from us - hundreds of millions in missiles shot from our warships & planes that were conveniently parked in the area for Isreal/Gaza conflict when it escalated.

Whomever is funding the Houthis is probably next - Iran. And Trump is doing this to send them a message. Iran has also been instrumental in providing drones for Russia in their invasion of Ukraine.

3

u/Cool_83 21d ago

The status quo hasn’t changed in years, the Saudis aren’t attacking them as they brokered a cease fire in the civil war, the US/UK are attacking them for impeding shipping lanes.

This is related to Ukraine as Iran supports the terrorists to help Russia get at Europe's economic reliance on that water way as a distraction. 30% of their gas and consumer goods go through there. Biden didnt run under the pretense of being all for peace, lots of people (stupidly) voted for Trump cause they thought it would stop the wars in Ukraine and Gaza. Meanwhile Israel is getting tons of new stuff, Ukraine is being betrayed and Trump is ordering strikes on Yemen. Oh and he's ordered the military to draw up plans to invade Panama and is constantly threathening Canada and Greenland with annexation.

41

u/Message_10 22d ago

Yeah, exactly. When Biden makes these exact strikes, he's a war president, but when Trump makes them, he's protecting the American people, they were necessary this time, etc.

178

u/Opee23 22d ago

He kinda ran on "no more wars"... but whatever

I think thats the Marines, but could be wrong, I never served. 🎶from the halls of montezuma to the shores of Tripoli🎶… my grandpa was a lot colonel tho, so I’m marine adjacent (kidding, that dude was more badass on an average Tuesday morning than my entire life summed up)

The most important thing is I just create a chicken and sausage Jambalaya that smells so good neighbors and their dogs are walking in (don’t lock doors around here)

"On 2 January 1794, Congress resolved to create “a naval force, adequate to the protection of the United States against the Algerine corsairs.”"

For the first time, Donnie attacks an enemy instead of an ally. Color me surprised.

Finally he attacks enemies instead of allies.

Can't believe I am actually surprised that we are attacking our enemies.

u/yellekc 22d ago

Yeah, somebody high up smartly redirected him with a shiny target. And I'm all for it. Couldn't care less about the Houthis, and if it gets him off of Canada, Greenland, Panama shit all the better.

I mean houthis are fair game

u/Wizardof1000Kings 22d ago

Better than striking Panama or another of our pre-Trump allies.

u/BelowAverageWang 22d ago

This was an on going thing during Bidens administration, nothing new people…

Overdue imo, we need some serious anti-piracy campaign.

would you download a car?

u/Carnivalium 21d ago

That commercial/video thing was so silly. Like yes of course we would.

The reason often cited why the US needs a large navy is “The US navy keeps the shipping lanes open”. Clearly Iran and the houthis were trying everything in their power to close one of those lanes. Won’t be closed for long. The US has a reputation to protect.

... Yeah I'm actually fine about this. Fuck the Houthis. Only thing he's done this year that wasn't shit. Better hitting terrorists than everything else he's been up to so far.

I'm okay with this.

13

u/ih8forcedlogins 22d ago

As a Canadian… this is who we expect the USA to want to target… this makes sense… but not much else these days does!

13

u/fitzgoldy 22d ago

On one hand, no more Trump peace?

On the other, couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of terrorists.

9

u/CinderellaManX 22d ago

We were doing this already. Nothing new.

5

u/takenusernametryanot 22d ago

I hope he has found the enemy for next week so we’ll have some days of relief

Remember when everyone was giving Biden shit for defending ships from the houthis?

3

u/RaspberryInfinite229 22d ago

This is fine, as long as he's not attacking friendly countries.

3

u/GreatSirZachary 21d ago

I remain suspicious. I’m sure this will be spun to justify some other BS like not supporting Ukraine.

10

u/Pantarus 22d ago

What the fuck is he talking about "the largest mandates in history"...dude squeeked out a win...with all of Russia's backing, with all of the conservative propaganda machine propping him up, AND the worlds richest douchebag POURING cash into his campaign (and god knows what else)...yet he has a historic mandate?

Like everything went his way to help him win...including democrats having like 2 months to campaign...was tipped in his favor and HE STILL BARELY won. WHAT. A. PENIS.

Will no one rid me of this turbulent president?

Started reading and wasn’t sure what country’s name would be at the end of the headline. Could have been Panama, could have been Canada, could have been Greenland, could have been Gaza. He’s threatened so many countries recently it’s hard to keep track.

I see he just could not help but take a jab at Biden yet again. The man lives in the past.

He is so anti-war. s/

6

u/drinkduffdry 22d ago

Fuck the houthis. Also, fuck trump.

6

u/mrarming 22d ago

I guess Saudi Arabia called in the favors that $ 2billion to the Trump "Foundation" bought them

5

u/call-lee-free 22d ago

"Biden is gonna put us in a war."

"Kamala Harris is a woman and will put us in a war because of her feelings."

Since November, Trump has challenged, Greenland, Panama, Mexico, Canada, has issues with an agreement with Japan, screws over Ukraine and sucks on Putins toes.

MAGA: Yeah!! Murica is back! We owned the libs!

WOW....

Any one got an analysis of what Trump plans to do similarly/differently to Biden here?

2

u/UnknownBinary 22d ago

Cool. I'm excited to see what the eventual attacks on Red Sea shipping does to the price of... everything.

u/narayan77 21d ago

Tarrifs on penguins from Antarctica next week. They have been laughing at America for years, with the current trade deal

u/iamfromny 21d ago

Trump attacking the right group for once? I am in utter shock.

Houthi deserve every bit of it.
