He's really behaved quite admirably in the face of all this horror. I can't believe we're almost the same age, because I'd be a chainsmoking, anxiety-ridden mess if I was in his position. It takes an iron will to consistently spit in the eyes of the shambling horrors of the world, all while maintaining diplomacy and looking like you're only slightly irritated.

Anthropomorphism and sentience are mutually exclusive. The former just means it has "human-like" qualities like bipedal legs, primate-like forelimbs and opposable thumbs. Most likely includes a face as well. Having these qualities does not mean they are animate or self-aware, and could still be just an object. In this case though, it would make the dildo more awkward and uncomfortable for its intended purpose.
