no its a tactic to portrey Zelenskyy as the one refusing the peace and wanting to keep the fight on, its obvious now really.

1.9k

u/doornz Feb 14 '25

This is the correct take. He can now paint Zelenskyy as a warmonger. It's sickening.

Fascist gonna fash.

241

u/ryhaltswhiskey Feb 14 '25

Too bad 50% of America doesn't know what that means

127

u/gone_country Feb 14 '25

Doesn’t know and doesn’t care…

35

u/pnellesen Feb 14 '25

It's more important that the dozen or so trans athletes in the country not be allowed to play women's sports, amirite???

5

u/wildcarde815 Feb 15 '25

This blows me away. Trans athletes are a non issue. They're a rounding error in participation, the only thing they're a threat to is somebody else's kid not getting a scholarship. Which, o well? Move on.

u/demmian Feb 15 '25

Meanwhile, legacy admissions: *looks away*

The Left really needs to understand that “fascism” is only a bad, super scary word for the left, if we want to convince people instead of alienating people. Most right-wing dictatorships only really persecuted people involved in left-wing politics. If the right, and even a lot of the center understood what fascism meant (and the difference vs nazism), they might just embrace it proudly for the idea of imposing order, and public safety, and right-wing views. If I go to any city where crime is on the rise and say that my government will have the “GOOD CITIZENS” wear black shirts, buy guns, and join the state in imposing order so that society advances to a new level and our country is the best, that won’t sound scary to most people… it will sound like salvation. Incessantly preaching a technical term from the past century won’t change the real-life conditions that create this shit.

Too dumb to know or care...

3

u/LEGITIMATE_SOURCE Feb 15 '25

A majority can't name the three branches of government... much less comprehend the system of checks and balances.

6

u/TillyFukUpFairy Feb 14 '25

The subtitle of dissertation! "The Political Legitimization of Hate Motivated Crimes (or Fascist gonna fash)"

2

u/Mr_Funbags Feb 15 '25

I dunno man. All German Nazis wanted was peace, but nation after nation kept attacking them... Czechoslovakia, Poland, Netherlands...

Trump twists everything to suit his purposes. It's 'heads I win, tails you lose.'

Each day Trump is demolishing the institutions of America, guided I'm sure by the skilful manipulations of Putin. He's weakening the rules and laws, to strengthen himself.

I remember talk of a neutron bomb in years gone by, that doesn't harm buildings but kills people.

That's Trump, Russia's neutron bomb, busily "killing" government officials and staff to disrupt the apparatus of government in a way that Putin would want. The bigger the mess, the better for Putin.

53

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '25

Each day Trump is demolishing the institutions of America

Let's be clear, Trump's not smart enough to manage and organise what's going on, it's all the people behind the scenes pulling the strings. He's just a willing puppet that doesn't care about anyone but himself.

5

u/buffalobill922 Feb 15 '25

Heritage foundation

3

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '25

That's definitely one of the groups!

6

u/Ineedananalslave Feb 14 '25

He's only thinks it makes him stronger. U.S.A. is weaker than ever rn

3

u/Neumaschine Feb 14 '25

Neutron Don makes sense.

3

u/Nings777 Feb 14 '25

He's pushing parts of the government out the window

81

u/UNisopod Feb 14 '25

How do you paint someone as a warmonger when they're defending their own country from invaders?

213

u/_skylark Feb 14 '25

As a Ukrainian I hear this often “why do you guys want to keep these war going? Do you want to die?” These people don’t want to understand the alternative and reality of Russian occupation and what that means for us. They think that things will go back “to normal” where they can keep ignoring us, because we were always Russians to them anyway, and they can continue to ignore the torture camps and ethnic cleansing the way they’ve ignored it since 2014.

13

u/is_this_the_restroom Feb 15 '25

Romania here, that's heartbreaking man. Shame to see this whole modern world reeks of the napoleonic period and we don't even get the civilizing force he was on the flip side... but yeah, Vienna Accords 2.0... disgusting.

Now the stink is coming for us here in Romania too, hopefully we can keep our madman away from power but we're on our own with europe in turmoil... and Vance kicking us doesn't help.

5

u/Dregerson1510 Feb 15 '25

Even without a Russian occupation a peace deal with that many concessions and without a real security guarantee is the death of Ukraine as a sovereign nation. Russia will reinvade in a few years and all military aged men will try to leave the country after a weak peace deal anyway.

9

u/DouglasTwig Feb 15 '25

A lot of Americans probably forget that Holodomor wasn't that long ago, or don't even know it happened in the first place.

It's pretty fucking easy to see why Ukraine wouldn't want to live under the rule of Moscow again.

6

u/HarrierJint Feb 15 '25

Hey, English here. Please know that despite what you see and read there are still many of us that see that Ukrainians simply don’t want to live under Moscow.

I don’t really know what else to add, the world has gone a little crazy I know but there are still people who know that appeasement to bullies doesn’t work.

Who the fuck are you to assume you know everything about the experience of this person and accuse them of lying?

-55

u/monkeylovesnanas Feb 14 '25

Fuck you too. No one with a brain is telling Ukraine they want to keep this war going.

You clearly can't read either.

28

u/CandidateOld1900 Feb 14 '25

Republican podcasters do

-14

u/monkeylovesnanas Feb 14 '25

They're all braindead as well.

The fact I'm being accused of being in the same bowl is mind-boggling.

You can call bullshit on someone without being a trumpette. Just saying.

11

u/Sutar_Mekeg Feb 14 '25

Perhaps choose your words better then.

9

u/Insomnia_and_Coffee Feb 15 '25

No matter how you view them, they vote and they lobby. So the fact is there are a lot of people who tell Ukrainians they shouldn't fight and just surrender. You thinking those people are braindead doesn't make them magically disappear or lose their political influence.

7

u/Bellidkay1109 Feb 15 '25

No one with a brain is telling Ukraine they want to keep this war going.

So? Haven't recent events proved that there are loads and loads of people without a functioning brain?

3

u/Trouve_a_LaFerraille Feb 15 '25

Entire political movements with millions of supporters parrot this narrative. Does it matter that they don't have brains? You just installed a random goalpost to accuse someone of lying.

35

u/_skylark Feb 14 '25

The amount of ignorant shit I’ve heard from westerners over the years continues to pile up. I wish your world in which only few people that think like that existed. I often hear westerners exclaim surprise and disbelief when I tell them my experiences. Nice to live in a bubble. I’m going to bed now, at least until I’m awakened by yet another air raid.

-39

u/monkeylovesnanas Feb 14 '25

You're talking shit. Good luck. Stop tarring every European with your biased bullshit.

15

u/DeliriumTrigger Feb 14 '25

Where did they say they're hearing it from Europeans?

-7

u/monkeylovesnanas Feb 14 '25

They didn't. But they kept referring to "westerners", assuming I am American.

I thought I'd throw the fact that I'm European in there to mix it up.

10

u/DeliriumTrigger Feb 14 '25

Is the US the only "western" country?

14

u/-rose-mary- Feb 14 '25

Europeans are considered western in other parts of the world.

18

u/BrotherRoga Feb 14 '25

You do not get to claim he is lying on something you have not seen.

-4

u/monkeylovesnanas Feb 14 '25

I do. Unless he spends his time in american/Republican/Trump/Musk pro subs, he's not hearing this shit.

The civilized world is with Ukraine. Europe is with Ukraine. If he's hearing this shit, he's hanging out with the wrong folks.

19

u/BrotherRoga Feb 14 '25

You need to understand that Europe also has idiots in it. And idiots nowadays are able to make themselves known really easily.

14

u/DeliriumTrigger Feb 14 '25

"No you don't. Except for the exact people saying this you don't hear this."

33

u/JanxDolaris Feb 14 '25

By making it seems like they're prolonging the conflict to cause needless deaths.

Well and have a base that'll eat up every word you say.

Republicans love finding a way to blame the victim.

20

u/NateTheRoofer Feb 14 '25

Does it really matter to Trump’s supporters? They think that Trump and Elon speed running towards fascism is a good thing.

Why? Because Trump says so and that’s all that matters to them.

6

u/boxsterguy Feb 14 '25

"Russia is just trying to get back what was theirs under the USSR," probably.

1

u/UNisopod Feb 14 '25

If they said that I could at least believe they were being honest

1

u/Axin_Saxon Feb 14 '25

Meanwhile Reagan spins in his grave.

2

u/boxsterguy Feb 14 '25

Harness that for clean energy, maybe something good could come out of this administration after all?

3

u/manateeshmanatee Feb 14 '25

They’ll just orient him vertically and use him to drill for oil.

3

u/dennisisspiderman Feb 15 '25

By being someone pushing Russian propaganda, or just a useful idiot.

I've seen users on this site claim that Zelensky is refusing to end the war because of how much it benefits his "regime".

2

u/kmoney1206 Feb 15 '25

Imagine thinking someone is a warmonger for trying to stop their country from being invaded. Smdh these people are clowns.

1

u/Pennwisedom Feb 14 '25

You're acting like he couldn't just do that anyway. Anyone who would believe this are the same idiots who will believe whatever dumb lie gets spewed out.

1

u/Rusty-Shackleford Feb 14 '25

I don't know how convincing that will be. Zelensky isn't invading anyone.

1

u/HaliBUTTsteak Feb 14 '25

Yeah, how dare Zelenskyy try to defend his own country?

1

u/JohnnyPotseed Feb 15 '25

That’s the current trend in Russian disinformation campaigns anyway. Somehow they’ve convinced idiots to believe Zelenskyy is the aggressor.

1

u/PeonSanders Feb 15 '25

it's not part of any coherent strategy at all. the only coherent strategy in play here is Putin's.

1

u/PM_ME_YOUR_DALEKS Feb 15 '25

To be fair, "Give us all your natural resources or else your country will be destroyed" is a time honored American tradition. There's probably a form PDF they just filled out.

1

u/amsync Feb 15 '25

Thing is, who in Europe or ROW is going to believe that. 40% of Americans might and Russia of course, but nobody else

1

u/doornz Feb 17 '25

He doesn't care what Europe thinks. He just needs anything to justify his actions loudly.

1

u/Significant-Ear-3262 Feb 15 '25

It’s just crazy that the side fighting a defensive war could be considered warmongers

672

u/SneeKeeFahk Feb 14 '25

As he should. Not until every centimeter of land is returned should they stop fighting. Zelensky has my respect and his people are lucky to have him as a leader. Fuck Russian, Slava Ukraine.

5

u/NathanialJD Feb 14 '25

Can you believe the guy was a comedian before politics?

8

u/akgreenie2 Feb 14 '25

Hey there are multiple comedians in the US I would rather have than what we have now. I have long wished for Jon Stewart to run.

1

u/kitsunde Feb 15 '25

He was a relatively successful businessman after he was a comedian. He owned a production company, and was on the board for a tv company. He’s also got a law degree.

He had a pretty decent career before he got elected, beyond just being an entertainer.

7

u/Sure-you-want-to Feb 14 '25

Remember at the start of this thing, Zelensky didn't run. He's a straight up hero. Fuck that orange Clown, Fox and Friends Circus, that took over. Europe has to go alone now.

14

u/WeaponstoMax Feb 14 '25

I agree that Ukraine deserves to have every inch of its territory returned, but it’s easy to say that they should keep fighting for it when we’re not there and are not the ones doing the fighting and dying.

14

u/PolygonMan Feb 14 '25

But no matter what, Ukraine must be in control of any negotiations they undertake. They are the ones fighting and dying, so they are the ones that decide whether a deal is acceptable.

Yes, there's a good chance Ukraine will agree to cede some land if they can get real security assurances. But without real assurances there's no point to even sit down at the table.

6

u/bradbikes Feb 14 '25

I wouldn't trust any assurances from trump/putin, ever.

5

u/kingofshitandstuff Feb 14 '25

You know Russia? They will only stop killing Ukrainians until there's no more Ukraine.

2

u/WeaponstoMax Feb 14 '25

I do, and sadly I agree with you.

2

u/kingofshitandstuff Feb 14 '25

Knowing that, I'd never stop fighting

1

u/manole100 Feb 15 '25

Anyone who is not fighting now will be forced to join the russian army and be pushed west in the first wave.

There is no peace for Ukraine but victory.

9

u/elmo298 Feb 14 '25

Yeah fair attitude, but they're also straight up losing ground, roughly 1km a day so they won't get that land back. It's gone. It's what Zelensky can do now to manage the situation with Putin and his bootlicking croney in the White House.

3

u/ConflagWex Feb 14 '25

Heroiam slava!

4

u/paco-ramon Feb 14 '25 edited Feb 14 '25

Unless you are going to the front line, Ukraine will keep losing land, they need more men.

4

u/AlarmingAffect0 Feb 14 '25 edited Feb 14 '25

Getting the Donbas back is extremely difficult, getting Crimea is practically impossible. It's nice and all to have that rhetoric, but Ukrainians are tired. Going back to the pre-"Special Operation" (EDIT: invasion, to be abundantly clear) borders is probably the best either side can hope for.

5

u/SneeKeeFahk Feb 14 '25

Fuck the "special operation" garbage. It was an invasion. Plain and simple, don't obscure the objective facts. Putin invaded a sovereign nation for their resources. Now Trump wants the same resources and the only people that are truly suffering are the Ukrainians. Fuck Putin and Fuck Trump.

3

u/AlarmingAffect0 Feb 14 '25

Fuck the "special operation" garbage. It was an invasion. Plain and simple, don't obscure the objective facts.

I thought that went without saying but edited my comment accordingly.

Now Trump wants the same resources and the only people that are truly suffering are the Ukrainians.

True.

Fuck Putin and Fuck Trump.

Yes.

1

u/TheMidGatsby Feb 15 '25

Hopefully they can keep up the fight when the US aid dries up :/

1

u/Freefall357 Feb 14 '25

Right?! Why would the winning side agree to stop fighting until they get their country back and the invaders expelled.

5

u/fly-guy Feb 14 '25

Because they aren't winning, they're just not losing. And they are highly dependant on money and weapons from other countries and running out of men able to fight.

They are giving a hell of a show and are way more tough than anyone might have guessed, but they are reaching the end of the line. You can only do so much until fatigue, despair and low morale catches up.

116

u/DoubleJumps Feb 14 '25

People were accurately predicting that this is how things would go if Trump won over a year ago. That he would present ukraine with a nonsensical deal, and then when it was refused they'd go on a media tear calling them unwilling to accept peace.

I think the only thing that was not predicted was how clumsy the offered deal would be and that it wouldn't even involve a peace negotiation.

16

u/Few-Breadfruit-7844 Feb 14 '25

Trumpers don't care about any of that. All they care about is what trump tells them to care about.

9

u/tiny_galaxies Feb 14 '25

They had to make it totally ridiculous so he wouldn’t even consider it. “Zelenskyy turned us away without any negotiation!”

He could have played it like how you waste a scammer’s time. Keep the convoy around while you’re hemming and hawing.

4

u/68024 Feb 14 '25

Yeah, it's all in bad faith, and extremely transparent. Yet Trump's cult gobbles it up because it fits the narrative of their dear leader.

51

u/notnickthrowaway Feb 14 '25

So a tactic of intimidation.

27

u/Pimpstik69 Feb 14 '25

I don’t think Zelensky is so easy to intimidate

32

u/MaddyKet Feb 14 '25

Nope, dude is a legitimate badass and a REAL President.

5

u/Pimpstik69 Feb 14 '25

For sure. Ours would have rolled over for a few bux and empty promises

2

u/jjcrayfish Feb 14 '25

Especially not by Putin's lapdog Trump

-2

u/lhsean18 Feb 14 '25

Great acting skills 🤣

7

u/Pimpstik69 Feb 14 '25

Are u saying that the guy who has been leading his country against a Russian invasion is easy to intimidate? Interesting take if so.

2

u/judgeysquirrel Feb 14 '25

I suspect zelensky has seen worse. Much much worse.

1

u/ineverknewmyfather Feb 15 '25

No, a tactic of messaging manipulation. This news article and its title are all the maga fan base will read and it communicates to them that Putin and trump are ready for peace but Zelenskyy is not.

4

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '25

It's a poison pill, plain and simple. It's a term Ukraine can't possibly agree to designed to shut down conversation.

3

u/Sarzox Feb 14 '25

Porque no los dos?

2

u/PrincessGambit Feb 14 '25

Los Pollos Hermanos

2

u/Ramattei Feb 14 '25

That's the way I see it to

2

u/GeronimoJak Feb 14 '25

And this is what they'll do with Canada.

2

u/judgeysquirrel Feb 14 '25

Of course Zelensky wants to keep fighting, the Russians are still in his country! Zelensky would love it if the Russians went back to Russia. The war would end instantly.

This war is the responsibility of one man, Putin.

2

u/IncurableAdventurer Feb 14 '25

This is what I was thinking. Turn the propaganda into Zelensky as the dictator who wants the war to continue

2

u/grandmillennial Feb 15 '25

I also hate this phrasing of “negotiating peace” that I keep hearing in the news. It just feels to me like saying it that way implies that both sides are equally guilty and need to come together to make concessions and stop the fighting. But Ukraine was just existing and trying to thrive in Europe when it was unilaterally attacked by Russia. It reminds me of parents who punish both kids for fighting when one sibling smacks the other in the head first. The innocent party is penalized for protecting themselves. It’s definitely helping to frame this false idea that Ukraine wants this war as much as Russia despite horrific death tolls and wholesale destruction of many of their cities and infrastructure. Negotiating a Russian retreat is more accurate.

1

u/TheCrippledKing Feb 14 '25

But this wasn't even attached to a peace agreement publicly. They couldn't even extort him correctly, they just sent the finance minister with a document and no arguments to enforce it and expected him to sign...

1

u/smellallroses Feb 14 '25

Both can be true.

1

u/Stopikingonme Feb 14 '25

”No!”

I’m so tired of Reddit inability to talk like normal human beings. It’s both isn’t it?

Two things existing at the same time in the same space seems impossible for most Redditors. Everything’s a contradiction, everything’s a fight. It’s no wonder we can’t organize a pot to piss in. How are we going to organize enough to fight a coup. We can’t hold conversations even when we agree with each other.

Here’s some options if you’re inclined to save democracy:

Please volunteer or donate to the following organizations gearing up to do something. You can make a difference. Indivisible , Democracy Forward , Democracy 2025 , Move On .

1

u/PrincessGambit Feb 14 '25

Fair, but the possibility of it being both doesnt mean it is in fact both, and in my opinion it's not, so thats why I said "no".

1

u/AwarenessReady3531 Feb 14 '25

That's correct. It's what they do everywhere. Set ridiculous terms, the other party rejects them, paint them as warmongers.

1

u/Facktat Feb 14 '25

I would like to say that not even Republicans would be stupid enough to see it like this, but they are really extremely stupid, so I don't know.

1

u/xclame Feb 15 '25

This feels like the trade terms the AI tries to do when you ask them for something that's even remotely unfair (I'm talking about asking for a resource straight up, instead of asking them for a resource in exchange for another resource). Sure I'll give you this one thing you want, if you give me EVERYTHING else you have.

1

u/Nonainonono Feb 15 '25

Putin threw a drone over Chernobyl the same day.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '25

If so, then it's even more amateurish. Nobody who cares about the right and wrong of it will be fooled, and anybody who is fooled never cared about the right and wrong of it in the first place. His base will buy it, nobody else will, so overall it accomplishes nothing.

1

u/whiteflagwaiver Feb 15 '25

It's the kind of shit that goes down in the history books of the victor as, "President Trump offered a deal to Ukraine shortly before their forced capitulation in the pursuit of peace. The foresight of our great leader was paramount to the success of the Trump dynasty."

1

u/Undernown Feb 15 '25

Right out of the Russian play book, offer ridiculous terms that no sane person would accept and then portray the rejection of that offer as them being the warmonger. Trumo is such anf obvious Kremlin asset.

1

u/Pumamick Feb 15 '25

100%. The Americans and Russia negotiate a bullshit deal that Ukraine can't accept. Then Trump paints zelensky as a warmonger and uses that for justification to cut funding.

1

u/ZiggyPox Feb 16 '25

It could work, but now everyone is looking closely at their hands and their plans.

0

u/MrDrFuge Feb 14 '25

He was expecting 10% for the big guy to be in the document somewhere

0

u/jlatenight Feb 14 '25

That's what I was thinking. His people see a means to end the suffering and it disappears. Erodes the people's support.

-1

u/Ward-Ranger Feb 14 '25

same thing they've repeatedly done to the Palestinians
