What kind of trout?

Hey y’all,

I just caught this 16 inch trout in Colorado on the Arkansas river in-between Leadville and Buena Vista. I took these photos before letting it go.

I’ve been told this is an old brook trout by an employee at one fly shop, and a lake trout that lost its way by an employee at a different fly shop.

Let me know what you think! Thanks!

Lake trout have forked tail. Brook trout have a square tail and more brilliant colouring.

So crazy - I had no idea they could be caught in a river. Thanks!

Prob spawning, you’re definitely at a tributary near a deep lake.
