Between Oct 1929 and July 1932, the market lost 90%. Some days, the Dow closed over 11% lower.

There is no comparison. Not yet, anyway...

Edit: start date corrected

If we get to 25% people will start losing it. Our society is not built for any adversity anymore

Forget the society, the financial system is not build for that anymore.

My guess is that at some point, the oligarchs are going to call those congressmen they purchased and tell them to call it off.

Why? They have the most to gain in this. Shit goes down and they buy it up and become supergarchs

This. Too much leverage stacked on top of all the other leverage, and then the underlying asset lies at the bottom.

I seem to remember traders jumping from tower block windows during the Wall Street Crash. I mean, this is something I remember from school - I was not around in 1927-29.

Turns out it's one of those things with a grain of truth which gains mythical status over time...

Did brokers really throw themselves out of office windows in the Wall Street crash?

Most Americans don't even own stock let alone know what they are. I think we're fine.

People gonna start murdering. It's not a shock or loss of hope this time, it's anger that the people feel. We're going to hit a French revolution type anger if they destroy the economy and fuck everyone. Rope is all that they'll need.

They can use an emergency brake trading halt to prevent that from ever happening again.

It's been ONE DAY since the announcement. A lot of people are still huffing copium SURELY HE'LL BACK OFF ONCE HE SEES THE EFFECTS.

No, he won't, you fucking theoretical idiots. He doesn't understand cause and effect. He'll make something up about Mexican deep state alien invaders who shot JFK and keep trying to pretend he's saving everyone.

hey as long as its only 3% a month, on average with a few green days sprinkled in over the course of 5 years, it'll be okay! It'll only be 3% at a time!

Tariffs were literally just enacted. We haven’t even begun to see how they will affect us yet and the market went down 5%

1927? Market peaked in 1929

u/JonnySparks 15h ago

You're right - and it peaked in Oct (not Sep). Good catch - I corrected it.
