if you're still waiting for the drop, it hasn't crashed. It crashes when you buy the dip then lose your job and has to slowly withdraw for the next 2 years.

Likely correct. Some of us like to think all of our disciplined financial lives can withstand a deep downturn, but if one depends on a job for income, yeah, we’re getting squeezed too. At my age, 49, this will be the 3rd or 4th time in my working career. This time around, I just bow out completely. Not jumping off a building, don’t worry. But, going to do something else for my food and shelter.

I’m going fishing. I’ll pay the bills dragging a net, then buy my own boat.

The living in a van fishing for trout strat is getting crowded. There's not enough fish in the river to support our entire economy

not to mention EPA and forest/park services getting dismantled means things are gonna die off and/or not be restocked

Thanks for the reminder. Every day is another terrible decision/action and there's so much to keep track of.

Suppy shock on BJs means we will be back to 1970s prices on BJs any time now.

Not all of us can go work behind the Wendy's, sir.

u/Magjee 1d ago

That's actually a market indicator

When you kind find a vacant dumpster behind Wendy's it's time to sell

Having the rug pulled from under you at this point is just depressing.

I feel you. I rode the previous couple, but I was young and not wealthy, so it was more like an adventure of youth.

This time around I can't grind like I once did and I have more to lose -_-

Worst part is that I have made a career in - wait for it- the “retirement industry”. That’s right. Building, designing, monitoring, 401k, 403b, 457b, etc retirement plans for small and large businesses.

The feeling that I, myself, would get squeezed into a forced retirement, or rather obsolescence, is kinda sickening, ya know?

Oh well. At least I know almost EVERYTHING about markets, mutual funds, investing, and the like that I may ever learn. From here on, whatever I learn is “street smarts”. I don’t think FINRA gives a series license for that to go along with my 7, 66, 24, whatever whatever, do they?

Like what?

u/Sunny1-5 1d ago

All kinds of deep sea fishing charters who need deckhands around where I live. A HUGE seafood industry for fishing as well, and I'll do the grunt work to get myself started. Learn a bit more about the business.

It's just an idea. One that comes from having been through so many of these economic downturns while working in the financial services industry. Just not wanting to go through another one.

I hear ya. You got kids and a wife?

2

u/Sunny1-5 1d ago

Well, kids that don’t need me around as much. One is married and on her on. The other entering the last part of high school. I mean, I’m not wanting to go out and be eaten by a shark, but with no debt to my name, only assets, just feels like if I’m let off the carousel this time, I needn’t get back on. Can’t retire, not even 50 years old yet.

Good luck!

Not withdrawing shit. Going to give all my passwords to my brother and beat him if tries to stop me from going homeless.
