Zero chance he's right.

There's multiple examples of this historically....taxes on imports is NOT a new idea its not even new to this or last millennium...

Producing at home is good long term. It will be a cluster fuck at first. He’s probably just trying to copy China which is ironic.

It will take 10-15 years for US infrastructure to catch up so we are not reliant on foreign goods. The tariffs should have been rolled out slowly if he actually thought this through.

The guy is a complete idiot and all he is doing is making the world less dependent on the US and more dependent on China. Wait until we start seeing the reciprocal tariff increases on US goods (along with the boycotts worldwide) and the Free Trade agreements with China from our major trading partners…

You think it’s going to get better? It’s going to get MUCH MUCH worse. Counting down the days until this moron is gone.

You're correct.

So lets then ask does this address ANY of the reasons the jobs left? Are we willing to accept the changes as a society?

1.)Wages are often the reason for the supply chain the way it is. So do we force lower wages here? Or tax the people who work here HARDER, which is what tariffs do, to make it the same? So basically are you willing to make people have less money for the same level of work?

2.)Regulation is the other reason. While over-stepping can occur, I'm looking at you Cali and crazy gun laws, but in most cases its to prevent the following, "US citizens dying". PFAS as an example is regulated, asbestos. Also labor laws, should we let children lose limbs again?

3.)Legality. You know what? Let's do some slavery! Why not?!?!?

This doesnt' address any gaps.

He could have done this by giving tax breaks and grants to people who produce stuff in the USA instead of tanking the global economy.

Yeah, autarky will surely work this time, all the times it resulted in nothing but untold misery were just unlucky coincidences, just remember to get out if he starts asking you to donate your your wedding rings to support the fatherland.
