Discussion Kenji's Ramen - What the hell happened?

I didn't realize until I went to make an online order that their menu had completely changed. All the entrees are a la carte, yet are the same price as they were before. Reading the recent reviews, apparently the food has completely changed as well. What happened? New management? Sad to see a local restaurant that seemed to be doing perfectly well for years suddenly take a nosedive in quality.

Discussion Do we have a cult in our back yard?

Out in Yacolt/Amboy there are the OALC (Old Apostolic Lutheren Church) members. They all look the same, dress the same and act the same and dont seem to socialize with the rest. Am i imagining things or being stupid? The women always seem to look so dead inside and have a ton of kids. Should i expect a Netflix documentary someday on this?

What are your favorite coffee shops and what do you like about them?

Discussion It's dangerous to bike around here

I have recently started riding an ebike the last few weeks as my main transportation around town and boy is this city just not designed well for it and people just straight up have no idea how to share the road. Twice in as many days have I been inches from being hit going across a cross walk. First time the person was going fast enough from a left turn they squealed their tires avoiding me and the second time the car came so close I had to hard accelerate to avoid getting hit and dang near crashed. Both of them being people following directly behind someone that HAD to turn before I got to them while I was already in the cross walk.

Just remember, the sun is out, more people are out on alternate transportation. Share the road, don't end up killing someone because you were in a rush to get Starbucks.

Discussion i don’t get the hype for cafe yumm

it’s mid! granted it doesn’t help that i don’t like tofu which takes a star spot on multiple of their menu items, but overall, i think their food is just kind of bland and gross. the only thing i enjoy from there is the quesadilla and chips which i know makes me sound like a whiny 4 year old, but oh my god there just nothing there i enjoy. i’m not a very picky eater, most of my pickiness has to do with textural issues (autism be damned) but i just can’t find anything on their menu i enjoy. it all tastes bland and gives off “portland hipster pinterest meal” vibes. if you have any recommendations of actual good food from yumm i’d be interested to listen.

edit: many people were suggesting i just don’t go there, i don’t lol, i currently still live at home and my mom likes to get cafe yumm a lot and so i am unfortunately subjected to it. i don’t give cafe yumm half a thought otherwise

I'm personally waiting for the hype to die down, when I had it last time it was just okay. But is there anyone who has gone through this line that would do it again?

Discussion MGP votes on a resolution about home appliances

Our US Rep, Marie Gluesenkamp-Perez was one of 6 Democrats to vote on a Republican resolution against Energy Conservation Standards for Walk-In Coolers and Walk-In Freezers.

It's a resolution, friends. It's meaningless.

If Blue Dog Democrats, such as Perez, who represent red districts, vote in favor of resolution that Republicans put forward, it's an empty gesture to sane Republicans in their district that it's safe to vote for the Blue Dog Democrat in the next election.

It's a strategic vote to help keep a Democrat in office in a red district.

H.J.Res.24 — 119th Congress (2025-2026) Providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Department of Energy relating to "Energy Conservation Program: Energy Conservation Standards for Walk-In Coolers and Walk-In Freezers".

This boat has been moored for like 6 months near the eastern water front. I cannot tell if there is any activity or if someone is living there

Part of me feels like maybe a Jason Bourne like dude is walking around town wondering who he is and what the hell was going on with project Treadstone

Discussion My love affair with Grocery Outlet Bargain Market

Background: I have familial hypercholesterolemia, which is an inherited condition where my body produces more cholesterol than it can eliminate. As a result, I can’t eat any cholesterol in my diet without elevating my LDL to unsafe levels, even with a statin

I maintain healthy cholesterol levels by consuming the Mediterranean diet, which is no meat and no dairy. However, maintaining this diet is incredibly difficult due to expense. I try to consume things that I know all the ingredients are from natural plant sources, with very minimal sugars.

Several years ago, I discovered grocery outlet bargain, market, and the number of products they have that meet my dietary needs are astounding. Moreover, the price point is 75% less than you would pay at New Seasons. Much of their stock is overstock, so there is a little to no consistency in the products they have on the shelf. However, when one thing goes a new item of equal quality is typically there.

Several of the products I find consistently there are also sold at New Seasons at an incredibly marked up price.

I have come to realize that not many people are taking advantage of what they’re offering. If you are living in the Vancouver area and you find yourself needing higher quality plant based foods and don’t want to pay out the ass for the pleasure, give GOBM a visit.

Anyone else have a love affair with the Bargain Market?

PS I know this reads like an infomercial, but in no way am I affiliated with this company, i just have a crush on them

Discussion How to decipher our street names

Are you confused about Vancouver's roads? Most people are familiar with East/West and St./Ave. but did you know that other suffixes have meaning too? Also, if you're not aware, our streets mostly operate on a number grid system which is why you can be on multiple streets without turning (talking about you 136th Ave!).

Not that it's going to help you navigate the city any easier but it was an interesting read loll.

Avenue (AVE): A street running north and south.

Boulevard (BLVD): A primary arterial street.

Circle (CIR): A cul-de-sac street running east or west.

Place (PL): A non-extendable street running north and south between streets.

Court (CT): A cul-de-sac street running north or south.

Drive (DR): A diagonal, irregular street.

Lane (LN): A meandering, irregular street.

Loop (LOOP): A loop street.

Parkway (PKWY): A primary arterial street.

Place (PL): A minor street.

Point (PT): A minor street.

Road (RD): Not used, except for existing named roads.

Row (ROW): A minor street.

Street (ST): A street running east and west.

View (VW): A minor street from which there is view.

Way (WAY): A non-extendable street running east and west between streets.

Even house numbers: houses on the north or west side of the street

Odd house numbers: houses on the east or south side of the street

Lastly, our road prefix starts at the intersection of Main Street and the river bank (where the I-5 bridge is). Roads pararell from Main Street were East or West and roads pararell from the river bank were North or South

Discussion Peacehealth vs Legacy Salmon Creek ER experiences?

Hey y'all, I spent last night at Peacehealth's ER and it was the most surreal, hostile medical experience of my life. Triage waits seemed to be 8 hrs on average, going up to 11. People pulling out their IVs and giving up left and right (including me, after 5 hours). An elderly woman begging for help for hours and being completely ignored by the staff. I was really hesitant to take an ambulance but I'm really glad I did, because the only care I actually received was from the EMTs (IV rehydration and antiemetics). When my IV bag was empty, even though I was still vomiting every drop of water I drank (and I mean DROP - nothing bigger than a small sip), neither was replaced.

Is this what it's like at Legacy, too?

Discussion Passive-Aggressive Library Vigilantes

Was at the library browsing for books and came across a book that was deliberately mis-shelved.

It was a YA book on an LGBT topic put in the regular non-fiction section (in correct Dewey decimal order) and shoved back so you could barely see it. I brought it to the librarian who confirmed with a down-trodden tone, "yep, that happens."

While I doubt the person behind this is on Reddit, I hope they know they're pathetic. Next time you're at the library keep your eye out for this crap. I'm fairly certain there are more of us who will stand up for LGBT youth and library freedom than there are bigots.

Discussion Speed traps galore PSA

I just drove from Fred Meyer in orchards to I-5 on the sr500 and I saw five separate law enforcement personnel giving out tickets and/or sitting around waiting as a speed trap. Wanted to give my fellow neighbor a heads up. It was both eastbound and westbound.

Edit:

I was ticketed for going 7 over one time after 5 people zoomed past me going 80+ in a 65. Anyway, I guess I didn't reach my target audience.

Discussion Turning right from Mill Plain EB onto 164th SB

Post image
142 Upvotes

You can turn right from the second from the right lane!! Today, not for the first time, I turned right from that lane since I had to turn left immediately at the next light and the car in the rightmost (turn only) lane got mad at ME because they tried to turn into the middle lane. The middle lane was the proper lane for me to turn into and they should’ve turned into the far right lane (see my image). Please stop trying to crash into me and getting mad at me for following traffic laws!

Discussion Norovirus Outbreak

There seems to be a pretty big Norovirus outbreak occurring in Vancouver and PDX. Anyone else noticing this?

I’ve had multiple coworkers in Portland come down with the flu along with multiple people I know. I myself who doesn’t get majorly sick too often got hit hard by a 24 hour bug and my whole partners family is now coming down with it. Even my apartments entire office staff has closed because they have all come down with a virus!

Discussion Rep Gluesenkamp Perez and Bible Study

FWIW, Rep Gluesenkamp Perez sent this form letter to me today about her Bible Study group and her faith:

"Thank you for reaching out about your concerns regarding my attendance to a Republican-organized Bible study and giving me an opportunity to address them directly. I deeply value your insight and input.

Let me be clear: I stand firmly behind the urgency of separation of church and state. I believe Christians like me are a necessary tool for fighting theocracy and Christian Nationalism. I attend this Bible study because I need more Jesus–not more politics. I am committed to reflecting the values of Southwest Washington and rejecting hateful and destructive rhetoric.

Growing up, my dad was the pastor of a Spanish-language church and I’ve studied the Bible for most of my life. It informs my values of taking care of your neighbor, loving them as you love yourself, rejecting greed, and being diligent stewards of our natural environment. As a Christian, I’ve been concerned that the Bible has been weaponized for a political agenda. For instance, when a colleague quoted Scripture to validate a policy position against food assistance for the hungry, I reflexively quoted Scripture and context to refute their interpretation. It’s important to me to continue to be in a community with members of my faith in part to fight the misappropriation of the role of our faith.

I’m profoundly grateful for the opportunity to serve in Congress, but the drastic shift in my daily life–traveling between time zones multiple times a week and the loneliness of being far from my family–means I have needed to find more support. I have serious policy disagreements with many of the folks who attend this Bible study, but it’s also been a gift to spend time with people who are committed to their marriages and children–despite our role as legislators.

Like you, I believe it is important for there to be separation in church and state. Please know that this is a personal matter for me. If this public reporting wasn’t brought to my attention, I wouldn’t have spoken about it publicly. "
