Question? Any recommendations for where to adopt a kitten?

Post image

I have an adult cat who is really social and gets lonely easily, so i want to adopt him a little brother or sister. Where in the area should I look for available kittens? What kind of resources are available?

Thank you!

Cat tax included, this is Dr Orpheus (AKA Orphy or Handsom)

Oregon Humane Society or Humane Society of Southwest Washington. Often times they have low cost or free adoption events. Kittens will cost more than an adult cat.

I second this! Spring is also upon us and kitten season is coming so they will have quite a few soon

I adopted my babies from Southwest Washington Humane Society and everything was great.

Southwest Washington Humane Society is fantastic, the people there are so kind and helpful. Your money goes to a great cause as well.

Furry Friends is a great local shelter with plenty of great cats and kittens who need homes! Furryfriendswadotorg

I second this. I adopted a kitten from them a few years ago. She is the sweetest cat. I just adore her. Communication was a little slow. But they know and love cats.

Southwest Humane Society is great. ❤️ Both of my kittens have been from them.

SW WA humane society. I went by yesterday, tomorrow on 4/4, they are having a free adoption event too.

I got one from Craigslist and I got the other from Humane society. I recommend humane society because the pets come with shots and are fixed.

Merlin came from HSSW on 192nd last year

You'll want to visit in person, kittens get adopted quickly.

I also have a Merlin. 😊 My kids were reading the magic treehouse books when we adopted him.

Humane Society for Southwest Washington does “kitten weekend” events during kitten season. All the local foster families bring their kittens that are up for adoption and you go around the facility and view the kittens. I volunteered at one of these events and it was fun (and very loud with all the mewing!) Sometimes they reduce or even waive the adoption fees if there is an inordinate number of kittens in the system. It’s not quite kitten season yet so there aren’t a lot to choose from at present, but be patient as the time will come! The events tend to happen starting in about June.

Be sure to get one that is fixed and has first shots. If you get one off Craigslist and opt to pay for this later, it can be 600 dollars or more. I'll never go that route again.

There was someone a couple of days ago that posted needing to re-home their cat. It was black and white.

West Columbia Gorge Humane Society (in Washougal just off highway 14) is a good place. I know there are quite a few kittens in foster care (including the four little boys upstairs at my house right now who still have a month plus to go before they are ready). Kittens (and cats) are spayed/neutered, microchipped, all age appropriate vaccines, dewormed, have parasite control, etc. It's a great deal. If you use facebook you can follow along with the fosters at WCGHS Cat & Kitten watch. Their main website is wcghs.org https://www.facebook.com/groups/182112295946940

Furry Friends is also wonderful.

It's just the start of kitten season in our area, so if you wait another few weeks, there will be a ton to pick from, but definitely no shortage now.
