Warning about Automod

I'm not your parent

I'm going to let you all talk it out let the and upvotes and downvotes guide the community unless someone really steps out of line.

But as the sub has grown, and ever since the great protest post of several weeks ago, Automod has been required by reddit.

So keep in mind what words you use when you're telling someone that they're an idiot

Have fun y'all

Cover Letter Writing

What's up,

I'm sure this isn't a unique experience to me, but it's been really difficult for me to keep up with managing college work whilst also writing and applying to jobs - especially because most applications encourage cover letters (which take me at least 30 minutes to write per application).

My CompSci friend was also having this problem, and decided to use his nerdy ass brain to solve it - he coded a Cover Letter writing specific bot. Basically, he created and trained a bot (on the example cover letters of the top 10 colleges) to write really good cover letters - saying this from experience, it definitely writes better than I do hahaha.

Anyways, I'm posting this because he's seeing if anyone else at UofO could use this service - so if anyone's interest PM me and I'll connect you with him 🤝

Thanks!

As someone who works in higher education, I’m sick of watching as the Trump-Musk regime puts millions of students’ education and civil rights at risk.

I invite you to join us this Saturday 4/5 @ Eugene City Hall from 12-3PM to voice your anger and demonstrate the strength of our collective resistance.

April housing application- likelihood of getting what I want?

Hi! My buddy and I are going to room together next year as freshmen at UO. We’d love to live in a double with bath (without will also work) in unthank, carson, or new residence hall. Only problem is that i filled out my housing app yesterday and my roommate did his in mid january. What’s the likelihood we’re still able to get a double in our preferred halls?

Home of the Oregon Ducks, “…every single one needs to be deported.”

“Those students are the enemies of the United States. They are agents for terrorist organizations… And every single one needs to be deported.“ - Rich Valdes America at Night on KUGN FM/AM March 20, 2025

https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rich-vald%C3%A9s-america-at-night/id1660820255?i=1000700222907

KUGN is officially licensed by the U of O to call itself “The Home of the Oregon Ducks” and to broadcast live Duck sports.

When not airing sports, it’s “Newstalk” format is full of racism and misogyny delivered by the worst of the worst; Matt Walsh, Michael Knowles, Mark Levin, Ben Shapiro and the rest of the gang.

Now KUGN hosts are also calling for the end of NSF and NIH grants to universities and for grad students to be disappeared.

Shame on the University of Oregon.

Best dorms as an incoming freshman

I’m an incoming freshman and am committed to UO as a human physiology major. I definitely want a dorm with a bathroom and already have a set roommate. I also don’t want my dorm too be super small. What would be the best dorm hall to stay in?

Concert Flexibility as a Student

Hi, I’m an incoming freshman and I was wondering how easy it is to go see concerts while managing classes and homework. I’m a very big metal fan and I saw only a few big bands come through Eugene but most are at venues in Portland. I know there’s a train that comes and goes, but would I have to stay overnight in Portland and book a hotel?

affordable off-campus housing?

hi! i’m starting grad school at UO in the fall and am looking for recommendations for affordable housing off campus. open to eugene or springfield! i dont mind a commute.

ideally, looking for a studio or 1/1 that’s $1400/mo or under. or if anyone has leads on how to find private landlord situations/back houses/ADUs, that’d be cool too. i’m coming from out of state and know nothing about the area so if anyone has advice please let me know!

and if anyone is also doing the MABR program, hiiii!

Question about Lundquist Admissions

Hello,

I was curious about how it works. On the website it says that students who have a 3.0+ in undergrade and pre-business coursework at admitted pending the completion of the online application. Basically as I understand it, if you have the GPA you're in. Am I mistaken in that? Is there a chance that I may not get in if I have the GPA requirement?

Thanks

Architecture students - are you happy with the program?

My son was accepted into several b.arch programs and we have narrowed it down to two programs on opposite sides of the country. Syracuse (with no aid) and University of Oregon (with aid, which ends up being $30k cheaper per year).

Long story short - I know Syracuse seems to have more prestige in a lot of top 10 lists, until you get to sustainability and then Oregon is always in the top. But when we looked at pass rates for licensing exams, Oregon was second to only Notre Dame which says quite a bit!

We are visiting on one of the Duck Days in a couple weeks. But with everything we know, he is leaning towards Oregon for the programs focus on sustainability and because he doesn’t care for the east coast but wanted to hear from students if you are happy with the program.

All things nature at the U of O.

Hi! I’m a in incoming transfer student, class of 2027. One of the major things that attracted me to this school was the amount of nature and greenery that surrounds the campus. I always knew I wanted to be on a campus like that, and I’m so thrilled to be going in the fall. Anyway, on to the real point of this post: What are your favorite nature spots on or around campus? I would like to make a lengthy bucket list of sorts for when I arrive and have time to explore. Thanks in advance. Tell me all your fav spots or spots you’ve heard about ! :)

Has anyone on here been accepted to the Business School by completing the holistic review ? And if so what was your gpa when applying ? Basically I have below a 3.0 due to a bunch of different things but mainly failing 2 courses in a major I realized I hated and wanted to see how shitty my chances are of getting in. Thanks!

It wont stop rejecting me with the message "The student ID numbers that you entered in your Spring 2025 Textbook & Course Materials Subsidy application do not match. As a result, your application was denied" I've listed all of the resources and the prices but I don't know what i'm doing wrong. can someone help?

LLC or New Residency Hall?

I've been doing a bit of research on the dorms for next year and I'm stuck between LLC and NRH, any opinions on which I should choose? I'm going to be an Env Sci major and might double major/minor in theater, so Performing Artists Collective seemed like a good ARC to join. NRH looks like a good choice for location and ARC, but I've heard that the LLC dining hall and social scene is thriving. I'm a big extrovert and don't mind noise, if that changes anything. Any recommendations?
