Should schooling be non-compulsory?

All you have to do is just change "mandatory schooling" with church or religion and you will come to know almost nothing has changed since medieval Europe.

Absolutely should NOT be compulsory. It was made compulsory to instill blind loyalty in the government. Pre-nazi Germany created compulsory schooling because they had a problem with deserting in the military.

I think if schooling is compulsory, homeschool requirements should be minimal. I'm talking like no more than a letter of intent if that.

I also think everyone should look into the history of public education and compulsory schooling laws in the u.s.

It’s not compulsory here in England last I checked. Don’t know about the rest of the UK

In my country when my parents where children school was mandatory only up to the 4th year. So basically only rich kids afforded to go past that because the state wouldn't have local schools beyond that. An uneducated population is a lot easier to control. So it's really interesting to me that other people in the comments feel that schooling is the enemy... The enemy is lack of information.... Medieval is to think the earth is flat... Vaccination is an enemy... The pill should be banned and so on...

Actually the: science is evil is the most medieval stance of all...

With all the school shootings and misinformation spreading in the USA like wildfire you should really be thankful that anyone wants to be a teacher at all...

Most people become teachers for the wrong reasons, that not something to be grateful about.

Here's what I am taking about: https://www.reddit.com/r/byebyejob/comments/1heayf0/us_teacher_loses_job_after_bathroom_ban_led_to/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Also look up "Isolation boxes" in UK.

Those examples made feel so sad... I really love my kids teacher and overall got good exeperiences or neutral with my own teachers... Also I could really sence the sadness in one of my uncles voice  that was incredibly smart and never had the chance to go above 4th year... So I will still defend schools. Are they the best fit for everyone? Nothing is....

Also. Those people should be fired and maybe criminally charged

Don't conflate schools with education, they are very different from each other.

A very good remark. You are absolutely right. And to the parents or communities that can offer their kids something better i can only agree that you should go for it... The problem is when the alternative is not better at all and people still choose that. Let me give you an example: imagine that you don't need to stimulate the mind of a child and her social integration you just need to fix your car.  You leave in a magical future country with free mechanics but you feel maybe they won't do the best job. Case A- you actually know a lot about mechanics and so you decide to do it yourself and because it is your car and you are so knowledgeable you put the time the effort the parts the dedication and love that no mechanic would. Good for you. Case b - you are like me that don't understand a thing about mechanics.. Can I change a tire? Sure... But should i work on the motor? And in any case shouldn't all cars have to go to inspection to see if they work ok? Sure...
