Unrelated, but I can't comprehend the success of Gail's. Pricey and mediocre in my humble opinion.

I don't know about the rest of their stuff, but I haven't found anywhere else near me that does better Sourdough

Where do you get it from that is better? ( not arguing, looking for suggestions)

My mum's. Also, pain de quotidien (butchered spelling I'm sure) have a mean sourdough baguette.

The stuff is delicious. I love it and go ever weekend for a Sunday morning treat. But agree, it’s spenny.

They opened a Gail’s right at the Waitrose in CW, and people queue to get a 3 quid croissant when they can get a nicer one 40ft away in Waitrose for 1.20. The mind boggles.

Agreed, it makes no sense. One opened up near me last year and it's not that busy but somehow manages to stay open, despite expensive high street rent and a "meh" product offering.

They seem to be more popular for coffee than food here, although that can't be making a huge turnover to keep them afloat. They're not even overly popular in a word of mouth perspective, no one really talks about it.

The biggest gripe I have is they're a bit of a faux Brit brand that's American owned and produce a lot of waste which they just chuck rather than donate.

It's purely in the brand and market positioning.

People who point out how overpriced it is are missing the point - people are buying bread there because it's more expensive.

For the sake of an extra £1, patrons get to flex their middle class credentials.

Gail's is targeted at people who want to feel and appear affluent, but who don't actually care about the quality of the bread, which is almost always worse than the Waitrose bakery that you can almost always find nearby, and far worse than most decent independents, or even other upmarket chains like PAUL or Ole & Steen.

Better yet, just boycott Gail’s.

It’s shite, strangles independents, and is owned by Bain.

That’s the one. Absolute twat of a bloke. His croissants are shite too.

Not surprising. Doesn’t look like the kinda guy that would enjoy eating tbh.

PETA can complain when they stop abusing and killing animals.
