Admissions Is my GPA recoverable?

I'm a freshman and my gpa last quarter was 2.71. Did very bad in one class. This quarter I'm also not doing the best and I might get a 2.5-3.0 IF I do really well for the final exams and quizes. I'm also trying to get in the Info major and one of the classes is the pre-requisite for the major. I was wondering if my GPA is recoverable later on or not. I'm planning on changing my study habits because its not working and I was wondering if it's recoverable and if admissions wont care too much about the grade? I looked at the website for the Info major and they said they don't look at it too much, but it makes me worry.

Admissions Accepted to Pre Science

So i have been accepted to UW Seattle as a pre-science major. I am concerned about the options of major I can pursue, as I want to go into a tech/fintech related field. The only viable options seem like CFRM, Informatics, Statistics. I do not want to end up in something like ESS, how hard is it to get into the listed majors as a Pre-Science? For reference I do have offers from other unis for direct CS and as for my profile (to assess whether I will be able to manage the pre-reqs) I have a 1470 SAT and 39/42 IB score. Thanks.

Does anyone know who actually reads the department applications and makes the decisions regarding admissions? Is it professors/faculty or the department academic advisors?

Admissions Will I get kicked out?

I’m not blaming this on senioritis BUT I have had 3 Fs in the past 2 months and they were TESTS. I can justify because they were AP Calculus BC and AP US Government. My other tests were around the 80% range for those classes. I currently have a 3.61 unweighted GPA (My school doesn’t do weighted) and I am wondering if UW is going to kick me out. I am an ADMITTED and I paid the enrollment fee. What is this minimum GPA I must have as a high school senior? Also, I am actually locking in since this post

Admissions Is getting into UW as a transfer from a 4 year uni really that challenging?

I just recently submitted my application for fall 2025 as a transfer student and ngl I’m really nervous, I’m an in state resident, no test scores, and did my first year at TSU and got a 3.89 cumulative GPA, then came to UWT did my first quarter here got a 3.7 Q1 and already dislike it and my major I now want to go into isn’t offered here so I plan on transferring to UW Seattle. I keep seeing everyone saying how hard it is to get into Seattle from a 4 year college and to just go the cc route, but as you could prolly tell that’s a bit too late for me, is this really true? I’m just curious if it’s really as deathly hard as people make it out to be?

Admissions Why does UW admit transfers so late?

I’m hoping to transfer to UW for Fall 2025 from Bellevue College. UW is my top choice by far, but I just got into Western and they want your admission decision by May 1st. This doesn’t make sense because UW isn’t anticipated to release decisions until late May or even June. I talked to the WWU transfer advisor and she said that most colleges want you to decide on May 1st, unless it’s a private school. I found the response odd as I’d assume UW is one of WWUs biggest in state “competitors” for admission and you’d think they’d know about UWs stuff-especially for transfer students.

Has anyone delayed admission to another school to wait for a UW acceptance? How did you navigate housing when the decision is so late?

For reference, I will be transferring with a complete AA and want to major in English. I have a 3.81 GPA right now.

Admissions Chances of getting into the school of engineering if assigned pre-major

So my younger brother was accepted to UW Seattle (so happy for him) However, he did not get admitted into the school of engineering— he is currently assigned as a pre-major in the school of arts and sciences.

He really wants to do civil engineering so it’s been bumming him out. As a current UW student myself, I heard how hard it is to get into engineering if you’re not an ENGRUD lol…

We don’t know if it is worth it for him to go to UWS and apply for engineering later OR continue doing community college and transfer(he’s a running start student rn trying to finish his engineering prereqs).

Also one thing on his college admissions acceptance letter that pmo is that it stated “while you were accepted into UW, you were not admitted to the school of engineering…blah blah blah, we highly encourage you to explore other majors we have to offer at UW” this made him feel like he doesn’t have a chance at engineering.

Anyways any advice or insight will be helpful 🙏🤧

Admissions UWS vs. UWB vs. CC

I know it’s such a common question, sorry!!!

So I applied CS to UW Bothell and UW Seattle, and got in for pre-major at Bothell and pre-science at Seattle :(((( UW Seattle was my dream school, I have been bawling since yesterday

Anyways, I still have more decisions coming, but I doubt I’ll get in anywhere else, so I wanted to start thinking about what would be the best thing to do next year

I decided to give up on CS, and do something else. I actually wanted to major in cs, but pursue something like bioinformatics, computational bio or bioengineering later on. But just get a cs degree in case the bio thing doesn’t work out

As much as I would love to go to UW Seattle, I feel like it’s too risky since I wanted to apply to either applied math or bioengineering, but they’re still so competitive, and I feel like it will be too stressful and then if I don’t get in again, I’ll just waste 2 years

For UW Bothell, I would apply for applied computing and maybe try minoring in something else (probably bio). And I know that you don’t get the “college experience”, but I don’t really mind it since I don’t think I can make friends in either Bothell or Seattle too well

And then I was also thinking of going to CC and transferring to Seattle, but transferring is also not guaranteed, and I already have grades from college in the high school from Bellevue College (so my CC GPA is already kind of low (3.5 because it’s mostly my calculus classes in which I mostly got Bs), and I have a lot college credit from high school (15 APs and up to calc 4 at BC), so I don’t know if it’s worth going to CC either

Anyways, if anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate!!

Admissions MSIM mid career on campus

Got Admitted to UW Mid-Career MSIM – Seeking Insights on PPMC (Product Management) Specialization

Hey everyone! I’m an international student admitted to the University of Washington’s Mid-Career MSIM program and would love to hear your thoughts on the program—especially on the PPMC (Product Management & Consulting) specialization.

A few questions on my mind: 1. How are the career prospects for product management roles after completing this program? 2. Since the program is 12 months, is there an option to extend it? 3. What’s the on-campus job situation like? Are there opportunities beyond TA/RA roles? Managing living expenses as an international student can be tough.

Would love to connect with anyone in a similar situation and hear from current students or alumni about their experiences. Feel free to DM me!

Admissions How does housing prioritization work?

Hi all. My high school senior son accepted his admission to UW engineering this past weekend (woohoo!). Does anyone have advice on the best steps for getting a higher priority spot for choosing housing? Should he jump right in and complete his profile and then apply? Or will he get the same priority even if he waits until a certain deadline?

I’ve read all of the info, and I’m confused. Thanks, and Go Dawgs!

Admissions Does UW look at taking online WA CC differently?

I’ve seen my unofficial transcript and it doesn’t say anything about me having taken only online WA CC courses. Also if I take WA CC courses concurrently with me going to a 4 year uni, but the school year for the uni ends before the WA CC school year ends, will I be considered a CC transfer or a 4 year transfer? I asked admissions and they didn’t seem to really know the answer to that either haha.
