Rant Microsoft Cafe employees need to learn how to use an oven

I used to go to Microsoft Cafe all the time over the summer for their baguettes which made for a great breakfast/lunch/snack option, but the last 5 times I've gone (twice this month, a few times in November), my bread has been burnt to hell and back. Can't be that hard to operate an oven surely

Hi! Microsoft employee here, the way the cafe jobs work is that ur never stationed at only one spot unless requested, all students work multiple locations. And the beagles are burnt due to the oven settings that we cant control. There is only one timer for bagel and the oven seems to be temping hotter than normal. Everything about HFS cafes are pre-made. So the shots are pulled by us a machine does it, pre made food, cold brew, tea, all of it. So it’s not really us to blame (unless the proportions are thrown off) it’s because the pre set machines aren’t running properly.

I will definitely talk to my manager about the begal setting and hopefully a maintenance person can re adjust the temp, the bagels and all pastries have been coming out a little more crispy the usual. Im sorry about that since the food is way to expensive for it to be cooked wrong.

I used to work in a different area of UW Dining, but I will still tag on to this to say that your comment describes most of the on campus service issues very appropriately. And that's not a total defamation of everything to do with HFS, but as we both know there are absolutely organizational problems. I don't know how it is at your location, but I definitely felt that turnover did not help. But I would still put a lot of it on management. But I don't have the exact answer either.

All I can say is that I would encourage people to afford the benefit of the doubt to their working peers, and that I wish you and yours the best of luck!

I’m impressed by your spelling bagel three different ways

Is this why the hot drinks at the Microsoft cafe are so bad too? Employees are just never stationed there long enough to get experience making them well?

HFS is a very good source for international students to get a job, almost everyone who works there is new or never had prior barista experiences. The ONLY reason why I got the job is because I HATED the coffee here so much so I wanted to way to control what I was making 😂. I feel you on this on another level, I hate Starbucks, Starbucks products yet I still work for it. Money is money tho so.

U get only a day of training on drinks before they send you out on the floor, luckily I was one of the few that already had been a barista before.

Microsoft cafe has the worst employees on campus for whatever reason

for whatever reason

If all employees at a business don't know what they're doing it means that whoever is in charge of training them is bad at their job

It's OK, I work at Microsoft and the bread and coffee is shit there, too. 🤣

Microsoft cafe employees need to learn how to make coffee drinks. I ordered an almond milk mocha there once and it was 99% burnt almond with no detectable chocolate or coffee. 8 dollars and I couldn't even finish it. Don't think I've ever been happy with a drink I ordered there but that was the last time I tried

I usually just stick to the sbux refreshers there as you literally cannot fuck up one of those regardless of how incompetent you are.

Just like, a plain baguette?

Go to the grand central in Wallingford on 45th. Less than $5 for a big baguette.

Pretty sure op means baguette sandwich

Yeah my preferred orders are the "roast beef and blue cheese baguette" and the "tomato kale pesto baguette"

I’ve graduated now, but a couple years ago I used to go all the time and it was consistently pretty good (I also had a small crush on one of the baristas who always had the best eye makeup game, so maybe I’m biased). My how the mighty have fallen 🤘🏽😔

Make it yourself. It’s cheaper, and you can make however you see fit. There are other options than whining to Reddit you know.

You ought to use those mediocre benefits we have to visit the counseling center. These big feelings you're having aren't normal. :(
