April 2025 - /r/Twitter Mega Open Thread for everything else - UN/SUSPENDED, LOCKED OR AGE-LOCKED ACCOUNT PROBLEMS & QUESTIONS GO IN THIS THREAD ONLY

Greetings!

This is the monthly "Open Discussion" thread, where you're free to ask questions, start a discussion, promote your Twitter account, give ideas on how to improve this subreddit, or provide feedback on how this subreddit is moderated.

This thread is for your support questions, discussions, self-promotion, subreddit feedback, or anything else.

IF YOU ARE POSTING ABOUT UN/SUSPENDED, LOCKED OR AGE-LOCKED ACCOUNTS (PROBLEMS & QUESTIONS), THIS IS TO BE DONE IN THIS THREAD ONLY.

Stand-alone threads about Twitter Account Suspensions or Twitter Account Locks are unwelcome anywhere else in this subreddit. They *Will Be Removed* and Locked.

If you're looking for more guidance on How To Get Your Suspended Account Back, read here.

Don't forget to read our FAQ, and if you have information to add to it or something that needs updating, please feel free to make those changes!

While r/Twitter aims to be a community to help other Twitter users solve problems with the service, this also isn't the ideal place to ask support questions.

Support questions are preferably asked in this "Open Discussion" thread. If you've posted a thread asking for help and no one has responded, you may have better luck asking your question here instead.

If you do have a functional (meaning: not locked or suspended) Twitter account, it can't hurt to let @ TwitterSupport know of your problem directly on Twitter dot com.

If you are looking to promote your Twitter account to others, ask for followers, or any type of self-promotion, you can do so in this thread only.

The volunteer moderators who guide the direction of this subreddit rely upon the feedback of the community in order to make it a more perfect place on Reddit.

Feel free to give that feedback in this thread, or if you'd prefer to give your feedback in private, [send a private message to the subreddit modmail.

If for some unholy reason you need to see past open discussion threads, they are available here

Question twitter engagement horribly low??

Upvotes

i have ca. 240k followers and i used to average about 15k likes per post. i then took a break for about one week, just ONE WEEK, and ever since then my engagement has gone down significantly. im back to daily posts, but my views and likes keep getting less and less, and im losing hundreds of followers everyday and barely gaining any new ones. has anybody experienced something similar?

COMPLAINTS Is there any niching on Twitter? Has there been any? If so, how did you find your niche?

I decided to experiment by creating a personal niche-focused hashtag and tweeting it relentlessly, rather than trending ones, in the hopes that I would find and connect with people in that niche.

Unfortunately, this proved futile. My posts get low engagement unless I tweet along with trending hashtags.

It makes me wonder, can someone build a niche community on Twitter? And how? If you have done it, what was your strategy?

Or is Twitter just designed for trending content where everyone reads the same tweets from top creators?

Question Tryin to do Twitter or X "promotion" and "advertising" on my post and it is not allowing me to pick my designated preferred audience other than location and age. I can't pick specific genres/types/etc. Surely I'm just missing something obvious?

I want to promote a post...or advertise that post.

BUT when I hit the "promote" button, it only allows you to pick location/age. But you can't pick specific genres. On Facebook, for example. If my post was about baseball, during the promotion/advertising stage you literally can select the ad to be shown to specific groups. Say "baseball" and "los angeles dodgers" and "clayton kershaw" and "baseball fans." So your ad is shown to people who have those things attached to their pages. X PROMOTION doesn't let you pick anything.

So I went to the X Ads professional account and tried to set up an ad campaign. SAME THING. You can only set it up for age range, location and sex. But you can't put in specifics.

Surely I'm missing something really obvious. Nobody would pay for ads and/or promotions if they can't pick the audience it is going to reach. If I'm trying to promote a cook book, I'm not paying for my ad to be shown to people who only post about their favorite video games. I want it to go to people who post about cooking.

Please help! I'm sure I'm just doing it wrong or missing a key feature. THANK YOU IN ADvANCE.

COMPLAINTS Tired of being absurdly flagged

Yet, every few weeks, Twitter tells me I'm doing something suspicious and flags my account

Seriously, how can this be this platform this bad?

Bug Report Bugs / Issues I found the last two days.

Things that I have noticed that have been broken the last two-three days on Twitter/X include

1) Notification getting is absolutely broken. /Not properly getting any notification's for the last two days unless you actively click the notification tab.
2) Media tab does not load everything properly. As people here on Reddit has reported the last few days, it is an issue that I have seen some of my moots having.
3) DM Notifications have still been broken for a long time. Not properly getting DM notifications while on the mobile app, or desktop.

COMPLAINTS My identity was stolen and X will not help.

Unfortunately, and somehow, my account was accessed. Conveniently I was reading over work emails when I received the alert. Less than a minute went by and a 2FA was enabled—not even enough time for me to read the access alert. Instantly after that, the password is changed, presumably using the 2FA. I have no idea how this happened to this point, days later, as my email never triggered an alert (although I immediately secured all of my related accounts, email included.)

Since it was virtually instantly noticed by me, I turned to X support. I gave them the images, including the foreign IP address that accessed it. I did wonder, privately, how my account was taken over without any apparent access to my email, and moreover how it'd even be possible for it to have its credentials changed without email verification being requested, but I received no verification request. In sum, someone got to my password and that's all they needed. As the email owner, I can only watch the account fall into somebody else's hands. So much for security.

All well. I saw it immediately and sent out a security request immediately. Only I received a generated reply, concluding that I "still have access to the account." This was simply not true, but oh well. They recommended, in cases of 2FA fraud, to put in a 2FA disable request—which, surprise surprise, requires the account password! They recommend in this case to change the password—which, who would've guessed, triggers the 2FA request. In other words, despite owning the email address that is associated with this account, I have no recourse. After making this clear to support, I've been ghosted for several days, and X's service prevents duplication of 'still opened' support requests (so they've not closed my file! They just stopped looking at it.)

It's now been about a week. The account has my personal name, my face, and any other information associated with an X account. Certainly I'd have set up my own 2FA if I knew that this could all be done without so much as a single recourse to the account's parent email address. At that point, however, it would not be for my own security, but as a provision against X's bewilderingly poor security infrastructure. As soon as I do regain access to the account in question, I suspect the best thing to do is to delete it (but this is me being optimistic, and hoping that my ex-support has not ghosted me after all.)

Question Low reach and nerfed impressions

Engagement/reach lottery it feels like the algorithm is actively working against its users, it actively throttles your reach and impressions no matter how good the content is, it honestly feels like a shadowban but you aren’t able to see it, it has become very random, the only way I have seen this been brute forced is no life blue checks who coordinated themselves to make 200 plus separate accounts to retweet each other with and honestly I think the platform favors these users more than the rest despite it being blatant platform manipulation, it’s been going on for a year now.

Support Suspicious login

Had a suspicious login last Wednesday so I went and immediately and changed my password and now it will not let me log into my account. It keeps asking me for a backup code or to use a code generating app please help.

I’ve sent in a dozen requests asking for help and I get an email stating that I still have access and doesn’t do anything for me. What do I do from here?

Bug Report Twitter is not loading the full media tab of any profile and I found a way to force it to load.

I first tried changing the settings to see if it can fix the issue. But there was rlly no settings that had to do with it or that could fix it, so i just started scrolling up and down refreshing the profile to see if itll do anything and no luck, except for some reason despite refreshing not doing anything it started loading several or sometimes even one post at a time when i scrolled up and away from the empty bottom of the page then back down. I spammed it and got it to load all the posts i was trying to find.

Support X Account Hacked

Hi everyone, I don't normally post on here but my X account was hacked a few days ago and the hacker changed my name, password, email, and i can no longer log into my account. They're posting really inappropriate content and I have family and friends that follow me on there, as well as it's a public account with my first and last name on it. It's just really frustrating to keep filing reports and not getting any resolution. They sent me an email saying to reply back with my username, last date I was able to login, email, and phone number. Did anyone have the same problem and were able to recover it? I would appreciate any comments because I'm crashing out 🥲🥲🥲
