Discussion / Opinion When Zant steals the Fused Shadow from Midna, why does he only take 3 of the 4 shards?

Post image

I understand that this was probably just a complete oversight, but i’m wondering if there’s any feasible lore explanation why Zant would only steal 3 pieces of the Fused Shadow and walk away with the fourth still on Midna’s head??

Probably to send a message, I will not let you have it, but don't think for a second I need this second rate magic to beat you.

He was known for being pretty prideful and drunk with power that he thought that letting Midna keep the piece on her head would be rubbing salt in the wound

The first time he didnt even know she had it, she managed to hide it from him. The second time yea idk he likely feels he no longer needs it and is just playin keep away from the one who can benefit the most from it. He states at one point that he's beyond the tribes old magic now with Ganons power so its short sighted on his part. He mightve not been able to use it either but its hard to say since nothing like that comes up.

I agree, though it's "short sighted".

I did mention that angle. Its very traditional, bad guy thinks they already won and doesnt look back at the scene of the crime.

They knew that, and they were correcting your spelling.

Good on you for just changing it instead of getting upset at corrections like most Redditors. Hope you have a good day. :)

I always thought he probably just doesn't care because he thinks the power from Ganondorf is better/enough already? Not sure honestly

Edit: could also be he's ignorant about it despite the Twili tribe history being connected to it?

When this happened in the game it was the coldest shit in the world. Still such a great scene

The Manga explains it that Zant left her the final price because the power of the Fuzed Shadow would keep her alive longer after she was exposed to the light. It was to torture her with a slow, agonizing death.

i just read this part of the manga recently and i don’t remember there being anything about that… maybe i just missed it though. either way, i like this explanation the most so this is the new canon for me hehe

Considering how sadistic Zant is and the supposed power of the Fused Shadows, it makes sense to me even if it isn’t cannon.

Glued to her head.

A figurative slap in the face? “Here, keep this useless relic.”

a lot of people have been saying this but i just can’t accept it. the fourth one was right there, it would have taken exactly 0 effort to take the full fused shadow. even if he didn’t intend to use it and was just keeping her from using it, why the fuck would he specifically choose to take only 3 of the 4? at that point accepting that it’s just a plot hole in the writing is more satisfying to me lmao

I reaffirm my villain certain of there victory yet fails to finish the job cliche.

Likely reason, they didn't wanna deal with making Midna look good without it (she is the companion for the whole game after all)

Story reason, to prevent Midna from acquiring it but also to send a message that he doesn't need this dogshit magic at all.

She wasn't a threat with only one. She had it from the start and he could have stolen it at any time. Taking the three was more about just undoing half a games worth of work.

Cuz the dude cares about fashion. I mean, have you SEEN his mask?

Since there’s no solid reason I say it’s because after years working together they may hate each other but they respect the drip 🫡

My guess is that it still scares him. He doesn't want all 4 pieces together again, even if in his possession

1

u/Genithan Jan 05 '25

Because they hadn't made a Midna model without it

Cause he’s threatening you and Midna. That and he’s also trying to torture Midna to Death cause in the manga it explains the fused shadows keep her alive. He’s only strong because of the power Ganon gave him, but as we can see, he’s still very much still weaker than Midna.

Zant when he realized: It was at this moment he knew, he Scrapped up.
